One of five women who endured horrific trials to win the hand of Nicholas Cavendish, Lady Joanna Nethercutt suffered greatly throughout the ordeal, ultimately losing to Victoria Hamilton. She swiftly finds herself sold by her own father, who’s determined she’ll be of use to him yet. For a year, she’s “trained” in preparation for marriage to Victoria’s brother, with whom she’ll be expected to … produce heirs that will one day strengthen and continue the very society responsible for all of Joanna’s torment. In the space of a breath, Theodore Hamilton is thrust into a secret society he knew nothing about, and married to a woman who seems terrified of his very existence. Suddenly, his carefree yet honorable life is filled with secrets and shadows, allies and enemies, leaving Theodore unsure who to trust…starting with his broken bride. His lure to the delicate beauty is tempered by external influence, lies and manipulation from all sides. In this breathless conclusion to the Dark Sovereignty series, Theodore must decide where his loyalties lie, and race to destroy the evil men responsible for the immeasurable suffering of everyone he holds dear—including the wife he never wanted, but can’t possibly live without.

Riveting finale.
A Father’s Insistence is the last instalment of this dark series and what an intense and suspenseful end it is…I think this book made me feel every emotion: I felt angry, sad and frustrated at times, but also there are some funny and joyful moments, providing a counterbalance to the more sombre themes.
The author has created a fascinating world populated by an equally intriguing group of characters.
This is Theo and Joanna’s story but whilst they are central to the plot, the other individuals and couples both good and bad from the previous books in the series also play their parts. Theo is a good man and although his loyalties are misplaced his actions always come from good intentions. Joanna has suffered terrible abuse and should be broken, but in truth she has a strength of character, which has kept her strong in the face of the depravity she has endured.
There are secrets and truths to be revealed in this final episode and an evil manipulative foe to be vanquished, but when the enemy hides in plain sight it is not always possible to protect the vulnerable and innocent…. This was a riveting finale and the epilogue provides a wonderful insight into the future of those left standing…I received and advanced copy of this book from the author.
These are the type of stories I love to read. I hope I can see your work in NovelStar. There are also a lot of talented writers in that platform. You may check their group on Facebook.
I fell in love with this series when I read Legacy of Succession and it is by far one of my all-time favorite series! I absolutely love each and every book in this series and A Father’s Insistence is no exception! Theo is Victoria and Tamara’s brother from books one and two and he’s been in the dark with how the society works and what both of his sisters have been through at the hands of their father. He is learning that his father is not who he claims to be and that not only has he put his sisters through hell, but another woman as well, one he now holds dear to his heart- his wife! Joanna has been held captive for a year and now she’s married to Theo, doing what she was trained to do at the hands of his father, but she still isn’t free. I love seeing how this beautiful woman gains her strength through love and finds a way to banish the demons that have taken hold of her. I also love how Theo becomes the man he was always meant to be with the help of the woman who loves him. This is such an amazing series and one I know I will re-read again and again!
I really enjoyed this pacy, dark-swirled romantic suspense
This is a series where each successive book has been even better than the last. I really do recommend reading A Father’s Insistence if you enjoy a good romantic suspense that dips its toes (and feet) into the dark. However, whilst it is a complete story in it’s own right, I do recommend that you read the other two books in the Dark Sovereignty series in order to fully understand the suspense element.
So I picked this up yesterday evening, intending to only read a chapter or two before going to bed. Yeah, big mistake. For me this was TOTALLY one of those books where you ‘just need to read the next few pages’ before you can put it down. I didn’t even dare look at what time I closed the book, but it wasn’t until I’d reached the very end of the epilogue – oops. I can totally go to work on a few hours sleep.
I found it easy to connect to Theo and Joanna, they felt believable and were both incredibly likeable. The author did a very good job of writing the deception element of the story. Why wouldn’t someone believe their father’s version of events, when there has never been anything to raise your suspicion? I did feel he accepted the drugging incident too easily, but that was only a very minor part of the story. Particularly as subsequent events would have distracted him from pursuing it further.
Joanna felt broken without feeling weak, her responses to events were believable and well explained. Whilst I struggled to totally believe Theo was utterly in love with her after such a short time together, Stockholm Syndrome and her view of him as a rescuing hero made it easy to believe Joanna’s feelings. What is undeniable is the strong chemistry between the pair, they certainly heat up your kindle!
Personally I thought the epilogue ‘felt’ different to the rest of the book. I loved knowing what had happened to people etc. though I would have been just as happy with a very simple event showing how the ‘Society’ had changed.
This trilogy was my introduction to the author, but it’s definitely not going to be the last book I read by her. Her writing, character development, exciting plots and ability to weave a twisty tale leave me needing more of it.
That was quite a ride to the conclusion of this three book series. There were so many things to work through, especially after the last book .
The two previous couples are still heavy involved in this story as the couples are extended family and friends. So it’s really nice revisiting them all.
But this is not hearts and flowers. This is a dark romance filled with situations that are unnerving, unkind and unjust. Theo has to work through a lot to get to a better place. And Joanna, well, you just ached for what she went through.
So, if your ready for dark and dirty, then this is the book, series and ending you’ll like.
This series is so dark and twisted I couldn’t put it down. I actually read the entire series at once and wow just wow!! I couldn’t put it down. This third book was Joanna and Theo’s story and I loved this couple. If you like twists and turns and mystery this is one you will love. I will warn you that at times you will want to throw your kindle because you will just want to strangle Theo!! Honestly I loved him but there were times!!! Joanna has been through it all but she is a really strong character. Really enjoyed this conclusion to a fantastic story!!
Thank you for your review.
Another night with little sleep, but so worth it! This is the final book in the trilogy, this one featuring Theo and Joanna’ story as well as wrapping up all the loose ends from the previous books.
It bugged me Theo was so stubborn, extremely stubborn. At times you may want to take him to the back shed and beat some sense into him! Thankfully when he realises the error of his ways he quickly sets about to right the wrongs.
A great series for those who love their books dark and have NO triggers.
A Father’s Insistence is the intensely powerful conclusion to the Dark Sovereignty series by Anna Edwards. Its dark and unscrupulous characters will send chills down your spine.
We come full circle with the story of Theo (Victoria’s brother and Viscount Hamilton’s son) and Joanna (from Legacy of Succession). Theo lives his life in the dark. He takes everything his father says as gospel, so he is easily manipulated. He is reluctant to believe that his sister is happy and settled with her new life as he has been poisoned against the Cavendish brothers.
Nicholas and William are trying to pull the Oakfield Society out from their crude and evil practices of the past and into a brighter future, they are however up against high ranking members of society who feel it is their right to be able to do with and treat people (women) however they please. The battle lines have been drawn; the sacrifice for the brothers may be too high a price to pay to be rid of the Society for good.
Joanna is lost. Drowning in humiliation, she is conditioned to do as she is told and only what she has been ordered to do. She fears for her life in the hands of the Viscount, but things are about to change. The Viscount has arranged for his son to marry Joanna and produce an heir, a son who will carry on his legacy. Theo has no idea of his father’s plan and follows every step, except, he is nothing like his father.
Theo is kind and sweet to Joanna, not about to take advantage of a woman he believes has spent the last year in captivity and broken in a million different ways. This allows for them to spend time together, for a proper relationship to build, feelings to develop and blossom under the right conditions.
This is beautiful love story wrapped up in a crown of thorns, desperate to break free, spread its wings and live in the light, rather than being crushed by darkness. There are still some rather steamy moments, as Theo is all man where it counts as well *insert winky face*. An explosive ending with a few surprise twist up her sleeve, Anna delivers a compelling end to her legacy!
An exciting and powerful conclusion!
Reading this was like watching a car crash I couldn’t look away from…so devastating and horrific in the web of lies and deceit that the author so cleverly wove into the story.
Theo and Joanna’s story brought tears to my eyes and pain into my heart. This book had some dark and sensitive content which I felt was handled carefully although in some aspects maybe not as in depth as they could have been…However! I believe for the story it was as much as needed.
I fell in love with the characters and it was as perfect as I would have expected from this author!
Anna Edwards’ writing has developed incredibly and she continues to surprise me and bring something new to the table.
This was the final book in the series and we get to see everything wrapped up. This was a dark series, populated by sick, depraved men who got their jollies by being evil. But, the younger generation is coming into power now, and things are changing. Before this book is over, all the dark secrets will come to light. The time for denial is past. I loved Theo, but he really was living in a state of denial. I was beginning to wonder what it was going to take for him to recognize the truth. Fortunately, between his sister and his new wife, he finally understands. Joanna, poor girl, has been thru hell. But she’s come thru it, and despite being terrified and scarred for life because of it, she still manages to stay strong.
This was a good series, and I like how she wrapped everything up at the end. It’s definitely worth reading!
