This was a very moving book. It was about two people, Kelly and Tyler, that each had a lot of baggage and issues they were dealing with during the Christmas season. Kelly was out of prison after a financial inside trader issue while Tyler was a homeless veteran who has PTSD and mental issues after serving in Afghanistan. They met under a horrible circumstance but had a connection immediately. Can they both get through their issues, let their guard down and trust each other to make a future together and give Kelly’s daughter, Bree, what she really wants for Christmas….a father. Very good book, have a few tissues ready.
This story will pull your heart strings.
Kelly Kennedy, a single mom, down on her luck , Bree, a little girl that wants a father, and Tyler Manning, a homeless veteran make this a touching and at times heart wrenching story.
This story delves with the effects of war. How, many of the brave men and women who fight to keep us safe, often return suffering with PTSD, become homeless, and are offered few options as they try to return to civilian life.
Will Bree get her wish for a Dad? Will Kelly and Tyler find happiness and love as they work through Tyler’s PTSD ?
Another wonderful story by this author.
Other than the brain overthinking the heart a few times between Kelly and Tyler the story is touching and sweet.
I love this book. Highly recommend it. There are three books to it. You definitely will want to read all three parts. This is one of my favorite series.
A Father for Christmas (A Veteran’s Christmas, #1), my fifth read from author Rachel Ayala and the fourth this week, obviously I’m captivated by her writing. A captivating tale with a strong Christion undertone. I got the Kindle edition back in December of 2017 and didn’t get around to reading it until now. I started reading it and decided to use my November credit on the Audible edition of this book & am voluntarily reviewing. I’m glad I did. Elizabeth Klett’s narration adds to the book’s enjoyment & was perfect for this book I’m already reading (listening to) A Pet for Christmas (A Veteran’s Christmas, #2) even as I write this review. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
A holiday romance of redemption!
Kelly Kennedy is poor in money, reputation, and relationships, but she still has her beautiful little girl. Unfortunately, at four-years-old, Bree has asked for a father for Christmas and that is one gift Kelly can’t give her.
Tyler Manning is an Afghanistan war veteran, living on the streets and plagued by lucid flashbacks. He cannot outrun his PTSD or his guilt about his actions in the war and will never have a family or a future because of it.
I liked that the book touched on the subject of the struggles veterans face when they are discharged and the poor job society does of supporting them. This is a story of love and redemption. A great message at Christmastime.
I enjoyed this Christmas story. Sad but Sweet at the same time. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
I am a sucker for reading Christmas stories out with the festive season, it just gets me in the mood. And this is such a heart warming story.
Sitting on Santa’s lap, 4 year old Bree declares that all she wants for Christmas this year is a father and she asks Santa to leave him under the tree, when she wakes up. Whilst in the queue for some candy canes her mother Kelly, takes her eyes off Bree for a spit second when she realises that Bree is missing.
This is how we meet Tyler.
Tyler is a war vet who not only is he homeless but suffering from PTSD as well. He finds Bree, or rather she finds him and she is sure he is going to be her “Papa”. He takes her to try and find Kelly and when they do eventually meet up, Kelly is naturally hostile and thinking the worst that he was trying to lure her daughter away.
Whilst this is a heart warming story it also has some serious undertones as well dealing with the PTSD and the homelessness the Tyler faces. It is not all romance and flowers and I think that is what made me love it so. It is raw, deep and full of emotion and we see Kelly and Tyler battle to keep their relationship as well as Tyler battle his demons.
