In book two of the Michal’s Destiny series, Tavvi and Michal have problems in the beginning of their relationship, but they build a life together. Each stone is laid carefully with love and mutual understanding. They now have a family with two beautiful daughters and a home full of happiness. It is now 1938—Kristallnacht. Blood runs like a river on the streets, shattered glass covers the walkways … walkways of Jewish shop owners, and gangs of Nazi thugs charge though Berlin in a murderous rage. When Tavvi, the strong-willed Jewish carpenter, races outside, without thinking of his own welfare, to save his daughters fiancée, little does his wife Michal know that she might never hold him in her arms again. In an instant, all the stones they laid together come crashing down leaving them with nothing but the hope of finding each other again.

Interesting characters.
The author of this fine book, although fiction, includes many real-world events such as the Holocaust, concentration camps, Night of Broken Glass, and more. The fictional characters in the book seemed so lifelike! War shatters families and causes immense sufferings and hardships. I deeply grieved for the families and lives shattered. The book doesn’t end on a happy note, and you realize the author means to continue the story in another book. Excellent fine writing and evidence of great research done!
I’ve read the first 2 of this series and can’t wait to start the next one
Could have been a good story, but the characters were stiff. Bad editing. The back stories were retold at least three times. It was obvious this is one book in a series and they were trying to fill the reader in on previous events. Way too much inner dialogue; luckily these run-on paragraphs were italicized so you can skip over them. No climax, no cliff hanger; the story just ends. Not even tempted to read the next in the series.
Very good, but sad. Gave a really good perspective on how it was to be Jewish during the Holocaust.
Really good story, with a tragic ending. But it’s a WWII book, so pretty much what you’re expecting. I’m enjoying all the books in this series.
This is a great story, although the writing is sometimes a little choppy. I will say, it was engrossing enough to keep me captivated until WAY too late at night!
This book was great but I only gave it 3 stars because it ended abruptly and I wanted to know what happened to the people in the book. That’s when I discovered the story continues in book 3. Not reading book 1 didn’t make a difference. I highly recommend this book. It kept me up at night.
Love this writer and her books about World War 2 and Israel.
Brought shivers to my spine, and tears to my eyes
A WW 2 tragedy about a family both destroyed as well as disrupted and the tragic circumstances encountered by individual family members as well as their varied methods of managing & coping with their life and losses. Kept me riveted and up at night to finish. Unexpected ending.
I understand that this was a second book in a series. But the author was just not good at character-building. He would get to a point with a character and then stop and tell you the character’s whole history in three paragraphs. And then a little further down the line he would stop and do it again. A lot of it didn’t even seem pertinent to the story, and I just found it really annoying.
Besides that it just wasn’t anything different from any other World War II story. All of the usual “Jews in the concentration camp” cliches were there. I just didn’t find anything entertaining about this book. I’m actually surprised I finished it. I have no desire to read the next book in the series.
