A Great Ending To An Exceptional Series
Alas, this is the last book in the Elemental Mysteries and I hated to finish it. There is a lot going on in this book, but it flows so well it was easy to keep everything straight. Elizabeth Hunter’s writing style keeps you very much entertained and very well informed. The words just roll off the pages and ensconcing you in her world, that you just feel like you are living there with her characters.
With this final book in this particular series, pretty much all questions you have had are answered. For me it ended well, although to be honest, I really didn’t want it to end. Ben grows up a little more, Dez has an adventure of her own, there is action and intrigue, what more could you want. It shows the extent of what love can endure and what you will do for the other half of your soul. The descriptions of places and characters are awesome, so much so, that you can really imagine how they look. We even get to meet the ancients.
All in all, if you have read the other three books in this series, this one will not disappoint. I am looking forward to reading, what could be described as a spin off series, and learning more about the other characters who play a major roll in this series. I am really looking forward to Tenzin’s story, she remains one of my favorite characters.
After three books, there are a LOT of loose ends to tie up, which is why this book seemed to go on forever. I feel like every book in this series so far has had different writing styles, and the final book in this series (I think) is no different. She starts showing us flashbacks of Gio as a human as he is groomed by his sire, which does tie in the book pretty well by the end; but I just wish there was more cohesion of all books together in this series. The research into different time periods and cultures speaks to the countless hours she must have spent researching for this series to come together as it does. There are still times where I just let all the information flow over me because I don’t have that much understanding in history to grasp all the minute concepts.
When it comes to action, there is no lacking there. There are smaller battles that continue to happen as it leads up to the final war and it makes the book that much more enjoyable. You keep wondering if this will be the final match to set the entire fire ablaze which is brilliant. There are still times where the plot keeps plodding along and you want to catch up to the final conclusion, but overall it’s very well written. The characters have truly grown on you while keeping each of their unique characteristics, and it’s sad to see it end. I can see however how there are opportunities for spinoffs for each of the side characters, and may decide to read those at some point. By the end, I’m very satisfied with how everything is wrapped up.
A terrific ending to Giovanni and Beatrice’s long journey. I loved it! The joy, the heartbreak, the passion, and the trails these characters had to endure and overcome, made for a amazing series.
Anything by Elizabeth Hunter is a great read!
Great series
A very satisfying end to a great series. I’m looking forward to reading more of the spin offs.
This time the story moves to Rome and Gio and Beatrice have to act fast. They know the dangers of the formula that’s supposed to save the vampires from blood lust, but the hazards are great.
Beatrice is battling her own issues, but also becoming a very powerful vampire.
I know it’s paranormal romance, but my one gripe would be that there’s too much of Gio pulling Beatrice onto his lap. It makes her sound like a doll! But that aside, it’s great world-building and great characters, and I love the way Hunter’s expanded the series – very clever writing.
