Tiny fairies. Huge adventure.
Matilda Whipplethorn is about to get what she’s always wanted, and it’s a bad thing. Being a babysitter isn’t much of a dream for the average thirteen-year-old, but Matilda is anything but average. She’s half a centimeter tall, invisible to the human eye, and hearing-impaired. Her mother won’t let her forget any of that. So for Matilda, adventures are in short … are in short supply. Finally agreeing to let Matilda take some responsibility, her mother gives her a list of emergency procedures for babysitting. The only problem; humans aren’t on the list.
Minutes into her first job, humans appear in isolated Whipplethorn Manor. They tear her home, the fireplace mantel, right off the wall of Whipplethorn and Matilda’s afternoon babysitting job goes long term.
When the mantel ends up on display in an antique mall, the security that Matilda always took for granted is gone. She can lock the doors, but that doesn’t keep the kids in or spriggans and the fly-eating phalanx fairies out. Matilda’s up for an adventure, if only she could hear it coming.

I was very disappointed in this story, the cover and the name suggested something other than what we originally thought it was going to be. If my children were older, I believe that they could have gotten more into the story, but with the way that the “fairies” talked to each other we had to stop reading before we even reached the end.
I am not …
I never read books about fairies. Even as a child I never read books about fairies. They just didn’t interest me. But having read some of A.H. Hartoin’s Mercy Watts series, I decided to take a chance & get the book. I LOVED IT! It keeps you wondering what’s going to happen next, keeps you laughing and best of all, it spurs your imagination’s eye …
From the title I didn’t really expect much from this story and I actually didn’t expect to even finish it, but it was free at the time so I gave it a shot. Turns out that I absolutely loved it.
I loved all the characters, most especially Matilda, the thirteen year old babysitting fairy. I loved that Matilda was not perfect, she was kind of snotty …
I’m a senior citizen male. Not the intended audience. Yet, I enjoyed the entire series start to finish…and hope there will be another addition to the series beyond “To the Eternal” in the near future. Excellent storytelling with plenty of twists built around characters you come to care about. A wonderful series for all ages.
I’m a kid at heart. I still love the “Tinkerbell” movies! So, this was an exciting & interesting read for me. I highly recommend it to anyone who still has a bit of child left in their heart!
I read it before letting my 7 year old grandson read it. I enjoyed it and think he will. He stared it and did not finish it maybe his sister would of liked it.
Not really a purely middle grade book, though it is classified as such. Excellent story, with a unique twist on fairies I haven’t ever seen before. Definitely a must-read.
It is nice book and I think that alot of kids would love this book
An enjoyable read!
This might be one of the cutest stories I have read in a long time! Fairies, Fairies, and more Fairies as well as a few Spriggans. A beautiful world viewed through the eyes of tiny people. I loved Soren and his people! And baby Horc!! He made me laugh and laugh at his antics.
This book is good it is sort of funny but very entertaining.
