Page Count: around 330 pagesThings are always going wrong for Ava Fortune.Ever since she discovered she was a witch, it seems like people are trying to kill her. And… New Year’s is no exception. When a woman is found murdered in her aunts’ bakery, a terrible curse is uncovered, with Ava at the center of it.This … exception.
When a woman is found murdered in her aunts’ bakery, a terrible curse is uncovered, with Ava at the center of it.
This time, at least, she’s not a suspect.
Everyone in town knows who the killer is. Even Detective Colt Hudson thinks Ava’s innocent.
Polly Peacock broke out of prison for one reason only:
to kill Ava Fortune. Not just kill–sacrifice.
Except it’s not just Ava she has to kill.
There are five names on her list.
Ava and Colt used to be enemies; she never thought they’d be friends.
With things between her and her boyfriend, Damon, as rocky as ever, Ava starts to think that Colt is interested in more than just paranormal security.
But does she feel the same?
There’s never a dull day in Sweetland Cove.
What a wild ride!!!! Totally a great reading experience. Ava is so completely charming and naïve and keeps finding herself in situations are truly dangerous. The story is well developed and hooks you in right away. I could not put it down.
Honestly recommend this book and the other ones in this series to anyone who enjoys a good cozy mystery.
Polly Peacock, a witch striped of her
powers then sent to jail, has escaped.
Polly has vowed to kill Ava Fortune and
take her soul!!! Beware Ava!!!
Welcome back to the island of Heavenly
Haven. The island is divided into two
sections: Mistmoor Point and Sweetland
Cove.
The mythology of the island comes from a
1200 year old love legend that produces
the two factions of the island due to broken
marriage and hearts with sides being taken.
Ava Fortune was born on this island . Her
father, Eli took his daughter away from the
island when she was a baby after the
murder of her mother. Now they are both
back living on the island.
After Polly escapes, murders start happening.
Who will be next?
There is an ancient ritual to gain a witch’s
soul that the murderer seems to be following.
The characters are interesting, colorful and
creatively written. The plot is very fresh
and unique. The story is filled with mystery,
suspense and danger with magic, humor
plus some romance.
In addition to the bakery’s three fur babies:
Snowy the cat (Ava’s familiar), Tootsie the
cat (Trixie’s familiar) and Rocky the wolfhound (
Eleanor’s familiar), a fourth fur baby makes an
appearance named Tadpole. Tadpole is a skunk
that is Otis ( the deputy) familiar? This adds
fun to the story.
This is book is part of the Sweetland Witch
cozy series. It can be read as a stand alone.
I volunteered to read this Advanced Readers
Copy. Thanks to the author for the opportunity.
My opinion is my own.
“A Drop of Witch” earns 5+/5 Chocolate Creamsicle Devotion Cupcakes!
This is the third book in an exciting series by Zoe Arden. She weaves an engaging story of ancient legends, jealousy, and revenge through the three books, but there is an introduction to the community (Cake Spell Disaster) that can’t be overlooked. Alert! To really enjoy this series you may want to start at the beginning, there are some spoilers as the story builds on each other with deep connections with what has happened before. Like a mini-series, starting with episode three you may learn things that happened in previous episodes, and that may effect your enjoyment of those episodes.
The magical community is explored through its relationships, good and bad, among the various groups: witches, warlocks, goblins, vampires, and humans, but despite the fanciful nature, the story and relationships are treated in a realistic manner; just another day in the neighborhood. Some issues are coming into focus and “I knew it!” revelations make this book the best yet. I found Arden’s characters, my favorite is definitely Ava (loyal, clever, very head-strong, yet vulnerable), are developing well, and their magical side is not juvenile hocus-pocus. Some comic relief pops up with the animal familiars, but with Ava’s “soul” on the line, there is little room for jokes. Ava’s romance with a hunk of a human is more of an entanglement; their differences are explored and may be too much to overcome, especially when his mother shows up. Then, there is the insufferable detective…he’s cute, but can they put aside missteps in the past! All the way to the end, you will be treated to exciting revelations, breath-stealing surprises, and lots of “Watch out!” and a cliffhanger that will make you eager for the next book…
