Cassie’s friend Larry is shot twice in an alley. Clenched in his hand is a … hand is a note, which reads, “BEWARE BLACK WITCH.” The note could mean many things, and none of them are good. As Cassie unravels the mystery of his death, someone tries to murder her.
Being a beautiful enchantress, Cassie attracts interesting men, who complicate her life. The very human detective, Gavin McGregor, suspects Cassie is the cause of all the unusual happenings in his own and watches her every move. Her former boyfriend, Alessandro, the vampire, wants her back in his life, alive or dead. Sanjay Kahn, a wickedly handsome, rogue warlock, vies for her attention and her heart.

This is another winner for Jo-Ann Carson! Unputdownable! 5 stars
‘A Double Shot of Magic’ is definitely another ‘Rock & Roll’ wild escapade for Cassie, an adorable young witch with a caffeine addiction. This new adventure is the 2nd story in the Perfect Brew Cozy Mystery trilogy! It’s filled with intrigues, magic stuff, dashes of darkness and soft touches of romance, you’ll love it so much, you won’t be able to put it down. I strongly recommend this really entertaining cozy mystery!
Again, Cassie is caught up in an investigation to find the murderer who killed a dear and homeless man, named Larry. Along with her sexy warlock rogue Sanjay,
Mystic Keep’s handsome detective Gavin and her annoying vampire ex-boyfriend Alessandro, Cassie will do everything to find out who has done it. Again, part of this story is held at Cassie’s coffee shop called ‘The Perfect Brew’, which she inherited from her great-aunt Ophelia. She soon learns that her café is a haven for supernatural beings and that beneath it, lies a magic portal where anything can happen. Mysterious events soon appear in Mystic Keep, a small town on the Pacific west coast where magic flows freely! Also Cassie’s romantic life is filled with three hot men, all interested in her at the same time, some scenes are so cute and funny. Which man will charm her and win her heart? Will they find the murderer? What will happen next?
If you haven’t yet read any of Jo-Ann Carson’s books, then I suggest that you do, you won’t be disappointed! Coming next ‘A Triple Shot of Trouble’.
The coffee quotes are the best! I love how each chapter starts out with one. The characters are fun, the familiar super snarky, and the mystery is filled with twits and turns. Love it!

Fun Read But Imbalanced
I love a good paranormal cozy mystery, and this is a fun one. Our heroine has certainly got a lot going on. Relatively new to the Pacific Northwest small town, she owns an eclectic coffee shop which also happens to be a portal that helps keep us safe from evil magical forces. She’s not terribly willing to be this protector, though it is a great honor. She shares protection duties with a warlock who fancies her. There are several men who are giving her grief—including a vampire who doesn’t want to take no for an answer and law enforcement who views her with suspicion. Things really heat up on several counts when the murder mystery begins.
I like the heroine and the perspective that she lent to the book. I loved her chatty familiar. The author was also able to imbue a fair amount of humor into the book as the heroine dealt with the twists and turns of the plot and the quirky characters she dealt with. This book had so much going on aside from the murder that I don’t think the author spent enough time on the murder plotline. That can certainly be a problem with cozy mysteries: finding the balance between quirky and cozy. This one was a little shy of the mark, but I still enjoyed the humorous and unusual aspects of the story.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Amazing read! This is book 2 and I read it first, I will be going back to read book 1 lol this is well written and the characters are great I loved the story and look forward to reading more!!
Cassie is glad her sister came, but when Larry is murdered while holding an intriguing message, she is determined to find the truth. Truthfully, I started this book as a coffee lover, however, I felt it was a snappy and entertaining mystery with a cast of interesting characters.

Cassie Black is a sorceress and a guardian of the portal situated under her coffee shop, “The Perfect Brew”. When her friend, Larry, is shot in an alley, holding a message saying “Beware Black Witch”, Cassie is off and running to find out what the clue means, especially with one interpretation not being very comforting! While trying to deal with the murder and a dark force creeping into town, she has lots of men trouble. It might help if she could choose one of the three, but then maybe not.
The contenders are: a human detective, Gavin McGregor; a vampire ex-boyfriend, Alessandro, who absolutely wants her back; and Sanjay Kahn, a handsome, rogue warlock and joint guardian of the magic portal.
Grab your copy of this fun cozy and see how the team works together to solve the mystery and deal with the evil leaking in through the portal!
The story line was great, the character work was terrific, and the book had a smooth flow to it. This was a great addition to the series and entertained from beginning to end.

Another fantastic story in the Perfect Brew series. Book two finds Sanjay needing to join his old brotherhood. And Cassie reunited with her younger sister who has come to town. But it also finds these three along with cop Gavin on the hunt for a murderer. Many strange things are happening in town and none of them is good.
Can they stop it before any more are lost? And what about the chemistry between Cassie and the warlock?
I loved this second book and can’t wait to see what happens next.
Whoa! I absolutely love this story! This new series has really developed into a lovely mix of quirky, sweet, and just whoa-tastic! Love the addition of the new characters.. that means more stories… Yay!!
A fun story that takes place in small town, Mystic Keep. The coffee house and town is magical and has all sorts of paranormal characters lurking about. Vampires, witches and warlocks…oh my! The coffee house is their main “hangout”.
Cassie is a witch whose magical spells seem to go awry and she needs to learn how to control them and realize just how much power she really has. Who better to help her with that than the handsome warlock , Sanjay.
When one of Cassie’s favorite customers ends up murdered in an alley, she has no choice but to try to find out who did it.(much to the hunky detectives dismay!) Can there be a dangerous being in town they aren’t aware of?
Humor, suspense, sweet, innocent romance, magical happenings, fun creatures and familiars all made this an enjoyable story. Well written and described so well, you almost forget you are reading about paranormal characters and are right there witnessing all the action.
I was fortunate to read an early copy of this great story by one of my favorite authors.
This book has a klutzy witch who has a heart of gold, a vampire ex-boyfriend, a warlock ex-lover and partner in protecting the portal and a cop that she has gone out with in the past. Throw all that together along with the murder of a homeless guy that she was becoming friends with who kept his past secret and you have the ingredients to this book. I thought it was a very entertaining read and would recommend it.
