A Dog’s Purpose—the #1 New York Times bestseller—is now a major motion picture!Based on the beloved bestselling novel by W. Bruce Cameron, A Dog’s Purpose, from director Lasse Hallström (The Cider House Rules, Dear John, The 100-Foot Journey), shares the soulful and surprising story of one devoted dog (voiced by Josh Gad) who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans … meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love. The family film told from the dog’s perspective also stars Britt Robertson, KJ Apa, John Ortiz, Peggy Lipton, Juliet Rylance, Luke Kirby, Pooch Hall and Dennis Quaid. A Dog’s Purpose is produced by Gavin Polone (Zombieland, TV’s Gilmore Girls). The film from Amblin Entertainment and Walden Media will be distributed by Universal Pictures. Screenplay by W. Bruce Cameron & Cathryn Michon and Audrey Wells and Maya Forbes & Wally Wolodarsky.
Heartwarming, insightful, and often laugh-out-loud funny, A Dog’s Purpose is not only the emotional and hilarious story of a dog’s many lives, but also a dog’s-eye commentary on human relationships and the unbreakable bonds between man and man’s best friend. This moving and beautifully crafted story teaches us that love never dies, that our true friends are always with us, and that every creature on earth is born with a purpose.
Bailey’s story continues in A Dog’s Journey, the charming New York Times and USA Today bestselling direct sequel to A Dog’s Purpose.

It’s been a long time since I’ve read a more enjoyable book!
A Dog’s Purpose was our bookclub selection for this month, and I have to say I finished it the same day I got it.
I laughed out loud, and honestly, I cried real tears.
Giving nothing away, I just have to say, do yourself a favor and read this one.
It’s fantasy of course, but, it’s a lovely fantasy.
I give it 5 out of 5 stars
What a great and unique story, laughed and cried!
When I started this book I was actually going to put it down because I wasn’t finding it very interesting in the first few chapters but I kept reading and the book picked up a little and I began really enjoying it. This book is about a dog that gets reincarnated several times into different lives, each time wondering and finding out what his purpose is. It really is a very good look into what dogs are and what they mean to those of us who are dog owners and lovers. After fully reading this book I believe all dog lovers will love it.
one of the best books I’ve ever read, but very sad!
It made me appreciate my little dog even more.
I loved reading this book. I was crying. Amazing
This book was great
I loved it. It made me want to cry. But, in the very end it was worth it.
OMG! LOVED this book! much better than the movie. this should be a must read with a box of tissues close at hand!
Loved it, loved it, loved it!
Very good book.
A dog lovers book. The author writes as if he is the dog, providing explanations and bewilderment about human behavior. I have a new puppy and im certainly more patient now I know how a dog thinks! A dogs purpose is a beautiful thing, cheaper than therapy and alot more fun. My puppy speaks to me just by looking at me, and now I know what he is thinking.
To a life-long dog lover, this book afforded great insight into the ways my dogs see the world and their place in it, as well as their relationships with their human families.
A very fresh, fun read for me! A great summer beach book!
This book hit me straight in my heart. I have lost my beloved, Shadow just last Memorial Day of 2016. Shadow was a huge part of my life, and he passed at home just months short of celebrating his 15th birthday. I miss him every moment, of everyday.
On to the book. This book follows a dog that has many lives, many experiences, and a bittersweet ending. I cried during and long after this book. It is written from a dog’s perspective, which I absolutely loved. It’s sad, funny, and really pulled at my heart and soul. I blazed through this book in two days, and I even inspired my non-reading sister, who adores dogs, to read this book. She also laughed and cried throughout the book.
If you are a dog lover, or have lost a dog, I recommend this book. It gives me hope in finding my very loved and deeply missed, Shadow.
I hope to see you again my fat belly boy, Shadow. I miss you every moment, of everyday. August 18, 2001-May 31, 2016
I didn’t believe a novel written from a dog’s point of view could hold my interest. I was wrong. The book gave me a life lesson I won’t soon forget.
This was the type of book you couldn’t put down. You wanted to get to know the dogs. But, do expect to cry a few times.
I love dog stories and the idea they never leave you
What an endearing and heartwarming book, that was somewhat sad, but basically, just hilarious, as it is written from the dog’s point of view! I couldn’t put it down and now looking forward to reading A Dog’s Journey as soon as I can!
As a student, I hate reading. This infact made me stay up to 11 multiple times just hooked in the book. I cried multiple times so if you’re going to read it, expect to shed a few THOUSAND tears. Spoiler: The ending on Ethan just dying breaks my heart so bad and when the dog was put down in his 1st life I think.. 🙁
