The perfect, feel-good holiday gift from W. Bruce Cameron, the #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the A Dog’s Purpose series The problems fracturing the Goss family as Christmas approaches are hardly unique, though perhaps they are handling them a little differently than most people might. But then a true emergency arises, one with the potential to not only ruin Christmas, but … potential to not only ruin Christmas, but everything holding the family together.
Is the arrival of a lost puppy yet another in the string of calamities facing them, or could the little canine be just what they all need?
A Dog’s Perfect Christmas is a beautiful, poignant, delightful tale of what can happen when family members open their hearts to new possibilities. You’ll find love and tears and laughter–the ideal holiday read.

A fabulous read… Cameron writes with wit, style, and holiday hilarity as only he can. Loved it!
With his signature wit and charm, W. Bruce Cameron again gives the reader the great gift of a dog’s perspective. A Dog’s Perfect Christmas brings joy and comfort, wrapped in a ball of fur and tied with a bow of love.
Another good one from Cameron. It doesn’t quite come up to his others, but is still a warm, cozy dog book for Christmas. Maybe a little more predictable than his others. But I’d like to read it again around the holidays.
This book is a story of how resilient a family can be. How they can change from being challenged individuals to cooperative family members. I loved the descriptions the author used. I can’t think of an example, but he would describe something in a most unusual way. It just made you smile and think, “Well, I never thought of it that way.” And yes, the dogs did add a humorous element to the story.
I loved this book so much!! I highly recommend it.
I wasn’t sure I would enjoy this book when I first began reading. However, it didn’t take long before I was chuckling out loud and was invested in the lives of the characters. There is a lot going on as you read through the pages…a family is in crisis. A daughter with the typical teenager attitude. A grandfather with no enthusiasm for life. A mother with an identity crisis. A father struggling to provide for his family and succeed in his job. An old dog that misses life the way it used to be with his mom and dad. And young twin boys who are all out and such a hoot!
Then you factor in a health crisis, a stray puppy, and a love life competition for the grandfather at the playground among three women. Life begins to change and the family members realize how much they love and appreciate each other. It is painful to experience Ello’s difficulties with popularity and how she does not value herself. How much a person can make a difference in one person’s life. Are you willing to be that person? I hope I would be able to be the positive influence that the “new boy” was.
I love the viewpoints of the Winstead, grandfather’s faithful dog, and Ruby, the stray puppy. Your heart will ache one moment and soar the next. The joy of life through a dog’s eye is uplifting!

This is a good story of the complexities of family and the bonds that hold them together. Maybe that bond gets a bit of a nudge when an abandoned puppy joins the household at a time when it seems that everything is falling apart. He loves them all unconditionally, and helps them look beyond the little annoyances that sometimes come between them. The book started a bit slow, but ended up being an emotional and heartwarming story of a family in crisis and the love of a dog.
This story starts out with a very troubled family. Julia Goss, wife and mother is a former trial attorney who became a stay-at-home mother when her middle school age daughter Eloise “Ello” was born. The three-year-old twins are hard to handle and her husband is never home. Hunter Goss is having difficulties at work and fears he will be getting fired so he is spending even more time than usual at work. Eighth grader Ello is having trouble in her middle school. Hunter’s father Sander moved into the Goss family home after the death of his wife. Sander has been floundering since her death. A tragedy occurs which brings this family together and changes attitudes. Yet this is a Christmas story so it has a happy ending especially for a ten-week-old puppy who was abandoned on the side of the road.
Ruby a tiny abused puppy is dumped along the side of the road.
It’s not too long before she finds her “Person” when Ello sees her behind the bush and takes her to join her family.
It certainly is an interesting family she enters into.
This group consists of twin pre-school boys, Ello just beginning her teenage years, Mom,and Dad.
Grandpa and his dog Winstead also live in what should have been Ello’s room if her Grandma hadn’t died and Grandpa did not move in! They are both so old and it appears miserable!
Ruby loves them all!
When Mom gets very sick right before the holiday, the entire household step up to help out, stepping out of their comfort zone.
This novel serves as a reminder of what “Family” truly is and the rewards of helping each other!
.Interesting story
