First, she’ll need to save the pup she calls “Keats.” Enlisting her best friend Jilly, she confronts the dog’s deadbeat owner with logic, humor and professional courtesy. When her best HR skills fall flat, conservative Ivy starts breaking the rules. The clever dog digs in to help by unearthing a chilling clue that could put his owner away for good.
Can Ivy, Jilly and Keats evade a genuine grim reaper long enough to gain a new leash on life in the country?
This short prequel to the Bought-the-Farm Mystery series is a fun page-turner for lovers of animals, humor and spunky amateur sleuths.

Ivy, soon-to-be hobby farmer, as she solves her first crime with help from a brilliant border collie in this short prequel to the Bought-the-Farm Mystery series. Ivy Galloway didn’t realize how desperate she was to escape the big city and her human resources job until she meets a border collie pup in need of rescue, too. Over the past 10 years, Ivy has had to downsize so many people she was given the nicknamed her “the grim reaper.” Maybe it’s time to leave that behind and go home to the rolling hills of Clover Grove. She did all she could to save the pup she named Keats. Then one day she followed the owner to a pub where he was going to show off the dog and the tricks he could do. But when she found the car the dog was in there but was not very responsive. The car windows were all closed and the temperature outside was very hot. She went to work on how to get the dog out. This book was fast paced and had some very scary moments. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Keats is in a bad place, literally. Ivy is in a bad place professionally. She meets Keats at a low point and he is so intelligent. She of course falls in love instantly with this pup. Getting Keats away from his mean owner won’t be nearly as easy. This is a fun easy read and I look forward to getting into the series.
Short but really good. Keats was by far the star and so cute to boot. Ivy is finally going to do what she wants for a change and have a farm even if her bff thinks she’s bonkers. (You can’t please everyone ) I enjoyed reading this little teaser for the series and I will read as many of the books as I can.
This isn’t what I normally choose to read, but I’m so glad I gave this new series a try. I enjoyed reading about the lengths Ivy went to to rescue Keats, the lovable border collie, along with her best friend, Jilly. Do yourself a favor and grab your copy of this quick read. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and I’ve already preordered it.
Ivy is tired of her job, she hates firing people and has been told her company has to downsize significantly. She hates her nickname of killer. Her dream is to go back to her hometown and own a hobby farm. She find a border collie being mistreated and names him Keats. To help her free the dog she enlists her best friend, Jilly. Only the owner does not want to give him up. Now what?
This is a novella introducing a brand new series, A Bought-The-Farm Mystery. This book does a wonderful job of introducing the characters. They are fun, determined, smart and full of engaging personalities. The narrative was great giving an insight into the emotional state of Ivy and her motivations. The storyline flowed along smoothly, full of action, danger, humour, touching moments, mystery and suspense. I really enjoyed this cozy mystery introduction. Now I can’t wait for more the series to begin.
An awesome story!
What a great introduction to a new series. I found this book on an authors’ first-in-series promotion and downloaded free from BookFunnel. The book cover caught my eye. I am a sucker for a cute pup. The expression, “The dog stole the show”, certainly applies to this story. Keats is a wonderful pup that deserves praise. The friendship between Ivy and Jilly is heartwarming. This was such an awesome story! With this cast of characters, the series can only be a hit! I was excited to see that the next book is available in KU and I plan to begin reading it as soon as I finish writing this review.
This was a fun, quick, and easy read. I highly recommend this entertaining short story!
What a great story. So much fun and exciting. I loved it
Absolutely loved it!! Ivy’ Killer’ an HR head honcho meets ‘Keats ‘ an adorable border collie. Quick read while holding breath and turning pages, to find out how it ends. Great start to a new series. Cannot wait to read more by this author
This is the prequel to the first book in the series, “Dogcatcher in the Rye.” I really enjoyed reading this first so that I understood the full story between Ivy and Keats.
Ivy has a panic attack at work and runs out on a very important meeting. As she’s running away, she sees a cute Border Collie tied up in someone’s yard. She decides that rescuing this dog is her new mission in life. What follows is hilarity and also some scary, heart-stopping moments as she tries to do so.
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
A Dog with Two Tales is a very entertaining start to a new series. The main characters, Ivy and Jilly, are wonderful, but the dog is even better. Ivy finds an abused dog, falls in love him, names him Keats and determines to rescue him from his abuser. This entertaining story kept me up until 4:30 am because I had to know how it ended! You do not want to miss this great start to the Bought-the-Farm mysteries.
