Never pretty enough to please her gorgeous mother, Allie will do anything to gain her approval–even marry a man she doesn’t love. Lt. Walter Novak–fearless in the cockpit but hopeless with women–takes his last furlough at home in California before being shipped overseas. Walt and Allie meet at a wedding and their love of music draws them together, prompting them to begin a correspondence that … that will change their lives. As letters fly between Walt’s muddy bomber base in England and Allie’s mansion in an orange grove, their friendship binds them together. But can they untangle the secrets, commitments, and expectations that keep them apart?
A Distant Melody is the first book in the WINGS OF GLORY series, which follows the three Novak brothers, B-17 bomber pilots with the US Eighth Air Force stationed in England during World War II.

When I read this book I felt like it was part of myself and I am sure many others will to. It has some lift like it was made to show hard it is to have all the ups and down in making and handing everyday life on your own, while your man in fight for you, your children if you have any. He or she is out their for us all at home
I really enjoyed this book and would read more books by this author.
Lovely story of wartime romance & Gods plan in it all
I absolutely loved this book. I will be looking for more from this author.
The 30s or not, I just wanted this woman to grow up and stop whining! Were Christian women of this Era really so reluctant to make a decision, so concerned with appearances? Apparently, they couldn’t communicate either! Although, in the end, she made some very hard choices, the script seemed too ponderous.
This story provided history lessons,a visit to another country ,insight into. lives during a war, learning to trust and believe in others and the patriotism and bravery of not only the military but their friends and family A truly enjoyable book
Great Book
Allie doesn’t consider herself pretty or special…until she meets Walt at her best friend’s wedding. But he’s a pilot leaving to fly over Europe and she is expected to marry her parents’ choice. The rest is history, but wonderfully told, as they both determine to stay true to their faith and do the Lord’s will. The air battles share the pain and …
This may have been one of her earliest books, but was a great reminder why she’s one of my favorite authors.
I enjoyed the book, although the ending got a little crazy.
What a great Christian book, with great characters and a good story. I highly recommend it, especially for women of faith who prefer to read Christian fiction.
Very good read but when Walt’s injury being the loss of an arm, that was a little too severe for me. I would have enjoyed it more if he had a limp or something minor.
Good story that is well written. Endearing characters.
It always amazes me how people meet in faraway places sharing their lives trying to make sense out of life during troubling circumstances. I enjoyed the book very much. I was a child so didn’t understand these happenings as they took place.
One of the best Christian authors I’ve read in a long time.
Want of the best I have read for a long time.
It seemed that the author had done excellent research as far as locality and the war was concerned. I didn’t want it to end.
Could not put it down. Very well written and easy to follow storyline with great characters. This is a great book by a great author. Really love her work.
I absolutely loved this book! The story lines woven together were done so masterfully! Funny yet romantic, historical yet relevant today. Worth reading!
I loved it! Need I say more?
