Never pretty enough to please her gorgeous mother, Allie will do anything to gain her approval–even marry a man she doesn’t love. Lt. Walter Novak–fearless in the cockpit but hopeless with women–takes his last furlough at home in California before being shipped overseas. Walt and Allie meet at a wedding and their love of music draws them together, prompting them to begin a correspondence that … that will change their lives. As letters fly between Walt’s muddy bomber base in England and Allie’s mansion in an orange grove, their friendship binds them together. But can they untangle the secrets, commitments, and expectations that keep them apart?
A Distant Melody is the first book in the WINGS OF GLORY series, which follows the three Novak brothers, B-17 bomber pilots with the US Eighth Air Force stationed in England during World War II.

A realistic view of life during WW2 Characters experience personal consequences of being less than truthful with each other, as well as living through the hardships and tragedies of that period. Very well written.
I love books on WWII. This was both historical and romantic — a wonderful mix! Sorry when the book ended.
Loved it!!
Beautiful story of WWII. You become part of the story! Cheering the characters on!
I don’t have this from book bub but in paperback. It is an excellent well written historical novel I would highly recommend.
One of the better books I’ve read lately.
Read the whole series. Great books and characters.
Reading stories about WW11 provides a glimpse of what that period in our history was like. Marvelous!!
Clean, enjoyable read. I haven’t finished yet but have thoroughly enjoyed this book and I’m always anxious to get back to it.
I enjoyed the characters and plot of this book. Anything set in WW II gets me interested but this one kept me interested until the end. It was a realistic view of the times and struggles in living one’s faith. Now I want to read the others in this series.
Lovely book
I appreciated the “realness” of this book. The characters were real and their challenges and growth real. Great read!
