A heat wave but no A/C. Your ex dating your nemesis. A murdered juror. Ah, summer in Devil Springs… argue. And Judge Shelton and Rex seem to hate each other and do little to hide it.
Then bad things come in threes, as the old superstition goes. The A/C goes down in the middle of a heat wave, Greer learns her ex is dating Delaney, and a problem juror, Tobias Madden, goes missing.
Soon a body washes up at a bridge where two jury views of the crime scene took place. And with plenty of enemies—an ex-wife, a former business partner, and even his own mother—Tobias’s death becomes a murder investigation.
When another body turns up, Greer fears that both deaths are connected to the murder case. But she has little to go on but instinct. And that may not be enough to keep her alive long enough to discover the killer.
A Devilish Deceit is the third book in the Devil Springs Cozy Mysteries Series.

A Devilish Deceit by Jennifer Bramseth
Devil Springs #3
Oh…I do enjoy this Cozy Mystery series! Why? It is so much better than most of the sillier variety that I have run across because it has an intelligent woman doing a job she is capable of using her mind to solve murders that just happen to occur in her neighborhood. AND the murders are not contrived but believable as is the way she goes about solving them. I love the way the various series this author sometimes intertwine with characters showing up here and there. I am so glad I found this author and look forward to reading her books as soon as they come out.
In this book there is definitely a mystery and who the murderous person is and why remains elusive till the end. Greer has settled into her job but has days she wonders if she would rather be arguing cases than keeping records. She also has limited time for romance and that causes problems from time to time. Anyway…really do like this author and the books she writes and highly recommend all of her books to anyone who likes a bit of the legal with their stories…and in some…some bourbon, too.
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
Court clerk, Greer, has to work with a new judge. The courthouse is full of quirky characters: the AC keeps breaking down, the prosecutor is dumb, and the defense attorney is a criminal. Greer and her assistant have a lot of old records to go though in only two weeks and people are dying left and right. Greer used to be a lawyer and she has to keep looking into a case before burning the records. The plot is good, the characters are interesting, and there is a great ending.
The bodies are dropping in Devil Springs. Greer is once again in the thick of the danger. The author takes us on another ride as we try to solve the mystery and try to stop a killer. The folks of Devil Springs are battling nature and man made disasters. Things should be idyllic in this small town but something always seems to go wrong. You will enjoy the whimsy, wit, twists and turns all the way to the very end.
The Devil Springs Cozy mysteries are fun to experience. The characters involved, the layers to the mysteries, the crazy things that happen, keep me guessing every time. Greer always seems to find herself in the wrong place at the wrong time but then somehow manages to get out of these crazy situations. With each story, I always feel like I’m right in the middle of the action and the characters could be the people I encounter every day. I don’t want to give away any of the mystery, just know that you are in for an exciting and unexpected ride as the story unfolds. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Trouble is on the docket and no one is exempt. A Devilish Deceit is full of backstabbing, intrigue and drama. Greer finds herself entangled in a battle of exes, colleagues and matching wits with a killer. It’s anybody’s guess what will happen next. Bramseth is always thinking up new ways to captivate readers. She succeeded perfectly with this smartly written thriller.
