A Deal with Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack Book 4)
By: Carrie Pulkinen
5 out of 5 stars
The story A Deal with Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack Book 4) by Carrie Pulkinen is an awesome and amazing book to read. It pulled me in right from the start and didn’t let me go until I had finished the final page. I loved reading about the characters of Odette Allemand and James Malveaux. Odette is a smart, strong, independent, and beautiful woman. The only problem is that every time she meets her soulmate things end horrifically. Then she meets James. James is a werewolf who feels that he is broken. He remembers Odette from back in school. He is finding that his wolf wants to claim her as his mate. There is a deep attraction between these two. There seems to be a connection between them and there are sparks when they are together. Are Odette and James destined to go through an ending that never seems to change? What does their future hold? Read this book to find out. This story creates an atmosphere of suspense that had me turning pages to find out what is going to happen next. I got caught up in the romance and the emotions of the characters. I grew to care about Odette and James with each chapter that I read, and I couldn’t help but want things to work out for them. I enjoyed the bantering and interactions between them. The author has created a story that you won’t want to put down with unforgettable characters that come alive. I highly recommend reading this book.
Wow! A Deal with Death was an amazing deliciously hot book! I absolutely LOVED it!
Odette and James are both very strong interesting characters each having their own absolutely awesome abilities and such amazing hot chemistry! The intriguing New Orleans setting along with the romance, reincarnation, voodoo, spirits, demons, werewolves and oh so much more absolutely made this one a page turner! I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll just say read it! It’s an awesome book and you’ll absolutely love it from beginning to the end! I loved every single page and thought it was as good as Carrie Pulkinen’s Blood and Ghosts! Oh and you definitely should read both of these books, they both absolutely blew me away! I received a copy of this book and I’m eagerly leaving this review!
This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. A Deal With Death is the fourth book in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series. Now here is a book that will take you on a wild ride! I really enjoyed Odette and James’ story. I can’t tell you how many times the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end while reading this book. If you have no experience with Voodoo (and even if you do), Carrie Pulkinen gives a very basic and respectful view of this religion and its practitioners. With an exceptional eye to detail, a colorful and mystical world unfolds along with the complications and ramifications of dealing with Loas. Past life regressions, curses and ghosts are just a few of the situations that Odette and James will have to face if they want their chance at love. I absolutely love that this book (in my opinion) was written in pictures. New Orleans came into sharp focus and I could practically smell the city and the swamp and feel the sticky heat. A great addition to her Crescent City Wolf Pack series. This sexy read is for Mature Readers Only Please!
This honest and voluntary review was made possible by reading a copy through Bookfunnel.
Odette was a fantastic character who was a Voodoo practice who also was a medium. Although she tried to not use her gift she ends up having to. James is a werewolf and a great character who meets Odette while working on her house. Great chemistry and lots of action. The two end up having to work together to put an end to a cycle. This book grabbed me from the start. I loved it!! I am voluntarily reviewing an arc.
Dang this was a real eye opener for me regarding voodoo and its religion. The different titles and that not all are evil even though that might be your first thought. Anyway this is informative, realistic, full of action, angst an of course a splash of romance.
As a newborn Odette had died and Baron Samedi granted her life again while giving her powers that she didn’t fully grasp. Her father since he knew nothing of voodoo sent her to her uncle to learn however he knew the full scope of her power and used it for nefarious purposes and when the Baron found out he was keeping souls in special jars (don’t remember the spelling for the name) he was angry and took possession of the young Odette.
James is a second born werewolf meaning he had a human as one half of his parentage, he began having dreams about a mysterious woman that his wolf had claimed. So when his Alpha and his boss sent him to Odette’s house to go over the specs she wanted he started having feeling for her and was torn in two.
Discover how these two troubled characters found forever love within this series opener. I’m sure you will be glad I know I was.
I voluntarily chose to read an advance copy and have not been compensated in any way for my honest opinion.
This book is a heady mix of New Orleans voodoo, werewolves, loas, action, spicy romance…oh, and spirits…alcoholic and otherwise. With wonderful characters and an intriguing plot it will definitely keep your attention
A DEAL WITH DEATH is the fourth book in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series. I asked and was assured it would stand on its own (since I hadn’t read the previous books in the series). That assurance was well-founded.
I was elated to receive that word. I was going to be returning to New Orleans with Carrie Pulkinen as my guide. On the other hand, I had no idea she was a vodouist! To read this story is to believe she must be, her research is impeccable, educating, and enlightening. I love when I can learn in an entertaining way – mission accomplished.
The story of Odette and James begins when they are children, though really it begins long before then. I loved the twists and turns, the peek-a-boo hints, and the teases. This story kept me on pins and needles. It grabbed my hands and kept them glued to my Kindle.
Though this is the first book I have read in this series, I would love to know the rest of the pack going forward and in their history. I’ve already fallen in love with everyone I’ve met.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

I really enjoyed this book. I guessed a part of the ending but was pleasantly surprised with a couple of twists and turns. And a tear or two. I read this book pretty quickly because it had its hooks in me.
While this is the fourth book in “Crescent City Wolf Pack” series A DEAL WITH DEATH is the first book I’ve read and it absolutely worked as a stand-alone. I.have added the other books in the series to my TBR list.
This story started and ended with the same strength that flows through the entire book. Told in multi POVs in past and present tense, voodoo and magic is essential to the story.
There are a few surprises along the way and it was an interesting read which I read in one sitting
My favorite quote from the story is: “A fate bound mate would never cheat, and he wouldn’t settle for anything less.
I absolutely recommend this book.
*****
A Deal With Death is the fourth book in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series. You can read this as a standalone, but all of the books in this series have been stellar so you’ll probably want to read them anyway.
I have always loved a story with Voodoo components, and this one has a great foundation. I also loved the way the reincarnation aspect is woven in. This story caught my attention from the beginning and held it all the way through. The characters are vibrant and come alive on the page making you feel like you are in the story.
Murder. Romance. Spirits. Destiny. It’s a wonderfully written tale of the paranormal variety!
Carrie Pulkinen has brought us another amazing addition to this series. Once again, this read is a genre I love so I automatically know that I will be captivated by this read, but Carrie Pulkinen continues to bring us a read that is full of action, romance and adventure. I read this book in one sitting, it had me engaged to no end!
It’s a mentally visual read, which makes it even easier to connect with the story and the characters. Odette & James have a chemistry that is undeniable you could help but hope that through their journey in this read that they would get a HEA. This series continues to get better and better, you are launched into a world that you will not want to let go and get totally invested in.
I highly recommend this read, and even more this series! Carrie Pulkinen with has totally invested in her amazing storylines and even better characters!
I am not a huge reader of paranormal books but the blurb of this book sucked me in. A Deal with Death is my first book by this author and definitely will not be my last. This book is about Odette who is one strong woman who every time she falls in love her mate dies. Once she gets reaquainted with James who she knew from school things start to change. James being a werewolf knows that she is his mate but can their destiny be any different than the her past soulmates? This book was a very good read and kept my interest for the entire book.
A voodoo practicing heroine, a shifter hero and the Spirit of Death, Carrie Pulkinen’s A Deal with Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack Book 4) is not your average paranormal adventure or romance (though it does really well as both), but it sure is well written and totally enjoyable fun. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
A great read about control. Odette is a voodoo practitioner associated with the lua spirit Baron Samedi, the god of Death. She moves into an old house in New Orleans and lives her life without living or giving into her mysterious powers. But when ghosts walk through the house and her soul mate returns, fate seems to have other ideas. Desperate to avoid fate, Odette will have to find allies and use powers to save him. Can she do it or run from fear of her powers?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Odette standing up for herself but vulnerable and afraid underneath or James determined and cocky but kind and caring underneath. Great cast of supporting characters like the fun friend Natasha or the no nonsense Noah.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like with the house with its bright pink walls and little windows, inviting and welcoming but still large enough for a sense of unease with empty rooms wonderfully written. Or the use of colour throughout in the small details like the purple veve scarves and the cards for a splash of colour in a harsh world around them. Or the use of the senses with the taste of rum or the smell fot he forests later on so strong its as if you’re actually there.
A wonderful example of world building with this magical society coexisting alongside humanity with their own laws and rules. A wonderful example of building upon the sequel with added fantasy elements such as ghosts and priestesses and fortune telling and the Rougarou later on.
I also loved the sense of culture this novel includes with the voodoo and its Haitain roots with tis gods and rituals and offerings, giving it an unique flavour to draw readers in and a sense of community between characters and loved the inclusion of its language and terminology which was a lovely touch. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.
A Deal With Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack Book 4) by Carrie Pulkinen
5-stars
A Deal With Death is book four in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series. I loved it just as much as I did all the other books in this series. Odette was an amazing character and I absolutely loved her ability even if it was some what dangerous. I also really loved James’ character. There was so much more to these two than I realized at the start of the novel. As with this authors other novels, there is never a dull moment. She is very descriptive with each setting in the New Orleans area and it is easy to visualize and almost immerse yourself in its culture. I love this series and really enjoyed this novel. I highly recommend it!
I give A Deal with Death (Crescent City Wolf Pack Book 4) by Carrie Pulkinen, 4 stars.
Odette has decided that the best way to live her life is to have complete control over is. So she turns her back on her voodoo religion and never lets her control slip. Until she meets James. This hot werewolf makes her think things she doesn’t want. But she feels so good with him. However, she has bigger concerns. Things are happening in her town that she must help stop. Can she let go of the past and help stop this evil?
This is a great book and nice addition to the series. James and Odette are really good characters and while this fits in with the series, it is different enough to stand on its own. Besides the attraction of the two main characters, the suspense side of the story is quite interesting. I could not put this book down.
If you like paranormal romance with a suspense twist, this book is for you.
