New York Times and USA Today bestselling authors Heidi McLaughlin and L.P. Dover come together for a sexy new series that delivers romance for every season!
For Brielle Armstrong the pomp and circumstance of the days leading up to the Kentucky Derby are truly the most thrilling time of the year. Press junkets, designer gowns, everyone schmoozing her in hopes of getting in her daddy’s good … good graces. What’s not to love?
But this year, her heart is racing with anticipation to see Colby Hensley. As a former trainer of her family’s champion horses, his rugged sex appeal has always filled Brielle’s mind with naughty thoughts of a little barebacked fun.
Even though Colby walked away from their farm, her father Butch, would never approve of him. But what daddy doesn’t know can’t hurt him. If their secret comes out, it could cost Brielle everything. Still, what fun is life if you don’t ride it at a gallop?
Grab your riding crop, and place your bets. It’s Derby Day!

Brielle and Colby grew up on the derby circuit but in different sides of the racetrack. The Brielle entitled derby princess vs. Colby a Horse trailer that works for her father. Secret lovers until they weren’t. And now the a chance to rekindle. Can the make it through?
I am loving this series by the dynamic and talented writing duo Heidi and LP . This one takes us the reader into the world of horse racing and brings us Brielle & Colby. They had young love that somehow became jaded by the sins of their families and father’s but it now may be time to the wrongs. When the present throws them together it may be fate. It soon becomes apparent that their love may have been deeper than their families could have ever dreamed. A great second chance romance that is brining on the steam!

A Date for the Derby is a second chance romance set in the world of horse racing. Brielle and Colby’s story has all the good feels your looking for. Must Read!
This is book 5 in the series, but they’re all standalones, so you don’t have to read the first 4, but why wouldn’t you? They’re so so so good!
When horse trainer Colby Hensley walked away from his family’s traditions, he never thought he’d be able to continue his relationship with Brielle Armstrong, the daughter of his father’s boss. They love they’d shared had been amazing, but he knew that a relationship between the two could only hurt her and his father. When he walked away, he didn’t look back. I mean, after what her father attempted to pull, I wouldn’t have either.
Brielle only knew that Colby walked away from his family, his job, and her. She didn’t know everything that happened, she only knew that he’d hurt them all. Now she has to be near him again for the Kentucky Derby. A horse he’d trained for a competitor is up against one of the horses that her father owns, and Colby’s father trained. Why does seeing him again hurt so much? When the two come together, Colby explained all. Now Brielle has to make a choice. Does she want to fulfill her hearts desire and be with Colby, even if it means leaving everything she knows?
The Dating Series has been, by far, my favorite reads of the year. I’ve devoured them all and can’t wait until the next one comes out. It’s already been pre-ordered. Both authors are amazing writers who have teamed up to write truly touching stories full of romance and with. Each story paints a wonderful picture, with witty, funny characters and a swath of romance that permeates your heart. A definite must read for all fans of romance.
This was, hands down, my absolute favorite book of the series! It’s a second chance at love story (which I happen to love), but there’s more than just the chance to rekindle the flame that never went out. It’s about standing up for what you believe in, and the fallout when you stick to your guns, and how you manage to come back from those devastating losses in your personal and professional lives. I loved seeing how he and Brielle managed to move past what happened years earlier and find their way towards happiness with each other.
A Date for the Derby
An amazing addition to an awesome series. Caught my interest. I loved everything!
Who are Colby and Maximus/ what do we learn about them? Who is Brielle? What do we learn about her and her family? What misunderstanding happens in this story and on who’s part? Who are Mr. Hensley and Mr. Armstrong? What one event sets the true tone of the story? What minor plots take place that only enhance the major plot? This was such a fun read for me!
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin’ With M. Brennan.
A Date for the Derby is a winner!!
Colby is a horse trainer that falls in love with Brielle. Brielle is forbidden fruit in his world. However love really doesn’t know any bounds. If you love horses and a second chance romance then this is the novella for you. Although short it was thoroughly entertaining and super sweet.
The perfect second chance to experience a love that’s worth fighting for. This is book 5 in the series but can be read as a stand alone. Even though it’s a novella you get just the right amount of angst and humor to get your fix. This couple separated by misunderstandings has to prove that they have what it takes to make the distance. But is love worth losing it all? Grab a copy and find out.
A Date for the Derby by Heidi McLaughlin & L.P. Dover is the 5th book in The Dating Series. Each book can be read as a standalone. Colby and Brielle’s story is a second chance romance that is so well written. This is a quick fun read and it takes you to the Kentucky Derby! I was hooked from the beginning and loved the ending. I highly recommend this book!!
There’s nothing about The Dating Series that I don’t absolutely LOVE, and these two authors together are utter perfection. It’s Kentucky Derby time and it’s a big event for everyone like those with horses to race, and those who just want to be seen all dressed up. Colby was in love with Brielle since he worked for her family’s stables & training horses, but a betrayal had it ending badly, as he had to leave her behind. She’s not made it easy since then, and this year’s Kentucky Derby should prove to be interesting to say the least. As the secrets & misunderstandings come out, will Brielle choose him over her father?! Hit those one click buttons to find out! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
Book 5 in the The Dating Series takes us to horse racing in the blue hills of Kentucky where two lovers need to make the choice of saving their love or going their separate ways.
Colby Hensley is a horse trainer who has discovered his winning horse, Maximus. Unfortunately, in choosing the horse, he lost his family and the woman he loved.
Brielle Armstrong has it all. Wealth, a father that loves her, and a family business raising champion horses. However, it is not enough. She lost the man she has loved since they were very young and when she finds out the truth about his leaving, she will do anything to get him back.
A Date With the Derby is the rich girl/poor boy trope where the man wants to prove to the woman’s father that he can make it on his own. However, Brielle is not your typical blue blood, she works on her own terms and prefers jeans to ball gowns. She also knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to lose everything for Colby. And Colby doesn’t care about the parties and social gatherings, he cares about training horses. So if Brielle wants him, he won’t push her away because of his pride. They will make a life together any way they can.
Overall, this is a fun summer read about choosing what makes you happy and living your own life on your own terms.
Thank you to Ms. McLaughlin and Ms. Dover for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
Brielle is less than thrilled when she sees her ex at her family’s first Armstrong gala. But perhaps she’ll be able to get some closure and explanation from Colby. Why he left without a word to her. Was she not worth at least a goodbye?
A Date for the Derby is a short, hot second chance novella. Colby and Brielle had a lot of making up to do, and didn’t waste any time once they saw each other again. I’ve been loving this series, and Colby and Brielle are the hottest couple yet!
Coby is one amazing man.
Brielle is one smart lucky woman. They make for one interesting couple. Love there chemistry and connection. So glad the story went the way it did.
A Date for the Derby is a good short quick read. It’s book5 in The Dating Series but it can be read as a standalone. Colby is a horse trainer and Brielle is the daughter of the owner of a prestige horse breeder business, Armstrong Aces. Colby used to work for Armstrong but left. They come from two different backgrounds but they have a connection. Brielle is not snobby or stuck up even though she comes from money. Colby is a great guy and a great horse trainer. Sparks fly between these two but they do have their bumps in the road to get over.
A Date For The Derby is one beautiful ride readers won’t want to miss!! Colby and Brielle’s truly enjoyable story will gallop away with your heart! This must read is my new favorite in the Dating Series!
I absolutely loved this book! 5 derby hats for this one! These two authors have out done themselves and hooked me in with their words from the start! If you love second chance romance, jump in to this story about a couple, who meet up again, and try to resolve their misunderstanding. Can they get it right this time or will their families interference ruin everything?
Grab this one asap and sit back and enjoy!
Brielle and Colby are my favorite. Dover and McLaughlin show just how tough the heart truly is with A Date for the Derby. From bruised egos to secret crushes, Colby and Bri are determined to throw emotions off kilter. With angst, humor and heart, McLaughlin and Dover prove that a handful of hope goes a long way.
A DATE FOR THE DERBY co-authored by Heidi McLaughlin and LP Dover is a contemporary, adult, erotic novella, and the fifth stand alone story in their DATING series. This is horse trainer Colby Hensley, and Heiress Brielle Armstrong’s story line. Like the previous instalments A DATE FOR THE DERBY is a complete stand alone. You do not have to have read any of the other stories to follow along.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Colby and Brielle) A DATE FOR THE DERBY is a second chance romance between horse trainer Colby Hensley, and heiress Brielle Armstrong. Colby Hensley is in love with Brielle Armstrong but a few years earlier, while working and training horse at the Armstrong stables, Colby discovered that his boss and Brielle Armstrong’s father went behind his back on a deal for a horse. Disappointed and furious Colby called out his former employer and in doing so found himself looking for another job. Having walked away from the Armstrong stables meant walking away from the woman he loved but with the approach of the Kentucky Derby, Colby knew he would have to face Brielle Armstrong, and the hatred she continues to direct at our story line hero. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Brielle and Colby, and the potential fall-out when the truth is revealed, and Brielle is forced to choose between her father, and the man that she loves.
A DATE FOR THE DERBY is a fast paced, quick read that focuses on family, second chances, betrayal, misunderstanding and love. The premise is energetic, captivating and engaging; the characters are colorful and dynamic; the romance is sexy, sweet and steamy. Colby Hensley risked everything for what he believed was right, and in doing so lost his family, his friendships and the woman he loved. Once the truth is finally revealed, Colby discovers that the losses are temporary but the love is forever.
Like the others in the Dating Series this book was a quick, fun read.
Colby Hensley used to train horses at Brielle Armstrong’s family farm. However, that changed when he knew he wanted to make a name for himself. When he starts training at another farm with Maximus, his dream my come true of making a name for himself and winning the Kentucky Derby.
However, what happens when he runs into Brielle again? Will the true reason he left come out or will the lie that’s been told still keep them apart?
This novella was again a fun read and shows that no matter your differences you can find true happiness.
I can’t wait to read the next one.
