Just as merchant’s daughter Felicity Mayson is spurned once again because of her meager dowry, she receives an unexpected invitation to Lady Blackstone’s country home. Being introduced to the wealthy Oliver Ratley is an admitted delight, as is his rather heedless yet inviting proposal of marriage. Only when another of Lady Blackstone’s handsome guests catches Felicity’s attention does she realize … realize that nothing is what it seems at Doverton Hall.
Government agent Philip McDowell is infiltrating a group of cutthroat revolutionaries led by none other than Lady Blackstone and Ratley. Their devious plot is to overthrow the monarchy, and their unwitting pawn is Felicity. Now Philip needs Felicity’s help in discovering the rebels’ secrets—by asking her to maintain cover as Ratley’s innocent bride-to-be.
Philip is duty bound. Felicity is game. Together they’re risking their lives—and gambling their hearts—to undo a traitorous conspiracy before their dangerous masquerade is exposed.

My favorite of the series. I just wish the sky/cloud phrase would have been used at the end of the book.
Another winner from Ms. Dickerson!
An unusual twist on a regency romance and a fun read!
Interesting story idea. But had some plot holes & oh so repetitive!!!!! Not my favorite of her books
Plot not believable
It is full of intrigue without being too stressful. The story has lots going on and held my interest and I found it to be sweet as well as fast paced. I really enjoyed!
The storyline was too much like the first book in this series. I usually love this author, but found that this series was just okay. It had great potential but too many things were unrealistic. The female was too headstrong and made stupid decisions. She mentions Hannah Moore and Hannah Moore’s books too much to the point of annoying (she did this in the second book of this series as well). I personally like when the female character listens to good advice when given by the male character instead of being headstrong and doing the opposite. Women can listen to sound advice by a Male, especially when he has her safety as a priority. I would be upset if the Male didn’t put the female’s safety as a priority (that is not being a shovanist like some say, that is being loving and gentlemanly). I kinda felt bad for the guy bad guy and felt that she could have done his character a bit different (not so dumb) and then she could have added to this series about him and how he reformed.
Felicity Mayson, meek friend of Julia Langdon and Leora Withinghall, finally has her own adventure and romance. A lovely and sweet young lady, Felicity is frustrated that men find her pretty and sensible, but spurn her because she lacks a fortune. When her aunt, Lady Blackstone, takes pity on her plight and invites her to country estate for a month long party, Felicity thinks it will be a good diversion for her discouraging thoughts. What she finds is a manipulative aunt, two charming men, and a group of insurrectionists plotting to murder the royal family! Trapped with nowhere to run, Felicity must use her wits and find her courage to survive and save those she holds dear. It was delightful to see Felicity blossom from a meek and timid girl into a woman of courage and noble character. This story is definitely another winner by author, Melanie Dickerson. Anna Parker-Naples reads the story well, distinguishing the characters with their own voices and bringing them to life with passion. In particular, her voice for Lady Blackstone is chilling at times and reminiscent of Maleficent in the Disney movie!
Melanie Dickerson is a favorite author of mine. Her books are always fun to read with just the right touch of suspense, intrigue and romance. A Dangerous Engagement did not disappoint. This third book in the series can easily be read as a standalone book. Felicity wasn’t as likable to me as she could have been but her hero was terrific. They fit well together. The pace and plot line moved steadily forward. All in all, it as a delightful read.
