I really enjoyed this book! It grabbed my attention from the very beginning and kept my attention with various plot twists throughout (the hospital scene following the accident had me going WHAT!?). I found the main character, Abbie, very likeable. After the accident, she focuses mostly on being there for her son and making sure that his world isn’t shattered the way hers was. The author does a great job with the progression of Abbie’s grief – from sorrow and disbelief, to anger, to acceptance and moving on. This was the first book I’ve read by this author – after my experience with this book I would definitely read more books by her.
Thank you to Lake Union Publishing and Net Galley for a copy of this e-book in exchange for an honest review.
A Curve In The Road by Julianne MacLean is an excellent heart wrenching story, and I .could not put it down! Tissues required for this one!! The plot is so well written and I love the writing and I cried with the characters which were well developed and so likeable. First I’ve read by this author but now interested in exploring more! A firm 5 stars!
A really great story about disasters that can happened in your life and how you can bend at the knees and still survive. Abbie is in an automobile accident while driving home with her dog. When she wakes up in the hospital after being rescued, she is injured and her dog can’t be found. Then….well, I can’t tell you the whole story….you just need to read the book! I highly recommend! I loved it!
A Curve in the Road is a sad book. It’s about Abbie & how she deals with the death of her husband. I received this book as an ARC & I really wanted to like it because Julianne Maclean is an excellent author, but it was just too sad for me. Although, it did keep my interest & enjoyed parts of it.
Narcolepsy – this could prove to be a very upsetting and debilitating illness and Julianne MacLean has described and embraced it and its effects on one’s life to perfection.
I found the subject fascinating, the characters very lifelike and likeable and the emotions the story brought out in me were very heartfelt.
The main character has so much to confront in her life besides this illness and she does so with head-on determination.
This is one author who with the use of a few words can totally bind you to her story and keep you there throughout.
I read an Advance Readers copy in the ebook format and this has been my voluntary and unbiased review of it.
This is an excellent title for this book. It has so many twists and turns, and ups and downs. The first page of the story pulls you in and you cannot stop reading. It is a page turner, that makes you feel an array of emotions.
I love this author, she writes with such passion for family and love!
I began this book on a Friday afternoon and finished it the next day Saturday. It is excellent, pivoting and emotional. A must read!
I really liked this book and the author, whom I haven’t read before. I loved her characters and how relatable they were. I especially loved Winston, the family Golden Retriever, whose personality reminded me of my own Golden that I lost this week.
And that’s what this book is about, those we love and lose, our disappointments and the time and effort it takes to recover. Abbie is in a devastating accident and loses her husband, Alan as well. She goes on, with the goal of protecting her son Zack from the heartache and loss of his father, by withholding information that may damage the memory of his Dad.
As Abbie suffers physically, emotionally, and mentally, she struggles with the advice that “things get better”. If I had to find one glaring criticism, it would be that she didn’t seek the counseling that she needed so badly.
A binge worthy read, it deserves 4 stars. My thanks to NetGalley and Julianne Mc Lean for the opportunity and hope my review encourages the reader to hop on this one. Again, I loved Winston.
Life can change in an instant. This is what happens to Abbie. Happy marriage, loving husband…gone. Career and health…redirected. But, a new day always comes, whether we like it or not. The book starts out fast, with a few twists and turns. Ending is predictable but you are so invested in the characters, you will be routing for it. Characters are likeable, situations fairly realistic. Well written, love the way the situations unfold.
Fast read, great for a summer day or winter night! Can be devoured in one sitting!
Thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone.
A very emotional story of a freak accident, and coping with loss and betrayal.
I found this brilliantly written book hard to put down.
A Curve in the Road by Julianne MacLean is the story of a tragedy which exposes the secrets and lies behind a picture perfect marriage. Abbie MacIntyre is living a dream life in picturesque Nova Scotia. She is a successful surgeon, married to a handsome and successful cardiologist, and has a model and talented teenage son. One fateful night, everything changes. When a drunk driver hits her car, Abbie is rushed to the hospital. She survives but the accident brings forth secrets she thought were impossible. She begins to question everything, even her grip on reality. Her perfect life begins to crack and threaten to shatter her world completely. As her search for answers tests her strength, but slowly she tries to move forward, beyond anger and vengeance, to learn to heal and trust again. Can she put away the anger? Can she move past vengeance? Will she find peace in her new life?
A Curve in the Road is an interesting story about learning to live again after tragedy. It is a well paced story and held my attention. I was able to finish the book in one day. The secrets that were revealed weren’t as shocking as I thought. However, I liked that Abbie struggled to deal with the information and the aftermath of moving forward. She behaved as a woman torn between anger and love, which makes the betrayal more devastating to Abbie. I liked Abbie’s supporting characters as well. They are her voices of reason and helping her stay on the right path. Of course, there are characters I hated and was glad they only appear briefly in the story. I recommend A Curve in the Road. It is a story that the image we see may not be the real story.
A Curve in the Road is available in paperback, eBook, and audiobook
A Curve In The Road when I first read the blurb of the book I wasn’t ready for the ride, I just thought it sounded good but I never in million years thought all the twist and turn we will get in Abbie MacIntyre life and it was amazing because I really wasn’t expecting many moments that left me speechless.
Abbie MacIntyre is a very successful surgeon with the perfect husband marriage and life, she thought she had everything but in a blink of an eye, her life changes drastically everything she knew before changes nothing will be ever the same.
Abbie was a great character, I think that is the main reason I love the book because she wasn’t the typical naive person, or clueless or even making mistakes over and over again like we’re used to, she was bold, strong and I love how she handles everything after she found out the worst. she wasn’t vindictive, she was a very mature woman who was only trying to look for her son and she did it amazingly.
I don’t want to give away anything about this story, you will have to find out what exactly happens for Abbie to be alone now fighting for the truth, fighting to recover her peace of mind.
One of the hardest parts of the book is when Abbie had to decide what she is going to do with her career, that was also a great indicator of the wonderful characters and maturity of Abbie, she was very intelligent and strong and she took the right decision even if that meant losing one of her dreams, what she loved the most but she never complains she searched for the solutions and kept walking and moving forward.
she was an amazing mother, I really love Zack he was a gentleman, he was always so loving, and that reflected so much the education and the character Abbie gave him. I really enjoy their interaction and their love.
A Curve in the Road is the story of surviving the inevitable when life keeps hitting you from every single corner and you’re not ready to lower your guard and continue fighting for yourself, for your son, and for everything you believe.
I recommend this book to any woman who needs more inspiration and magic in their lives.
I really enjoyed this book! It was very identifiable and pulled me in from the very beginning. There are so many parallels in it and readers can walk away with many different views on how everything evolved.
I could barely put this book down..
..WONDERFUL!!! Great story, suspenseful, different plot, great characters……PLEASE MAKE IT INTO A MOVIE!!!! It would be GREAT!!!!
Intriguing and well written – she’s a great story teller
A well told and credible family story told in vivid detail. Just a bit predictable.
A real page turner mystery.
Not only a curve in the road, this book throws one curve after another at you from the beginning to the end. This story will grab you from the first page and hold on tight until the end. This book is full of emotional surprises … and it is a realistic trip through Abbie MacIntyre’s life via the book’s pages. You will wonder how much more Abbie can take, but the twists and turns keep coming.
An easy read but not boring. I love having the opportunity to read a good book without bad language and sex scenes. Just a good story!
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinions. I will definitely be buying all of Julianne MacLean’s books!
Loved, loved this book
An emotionally gripping novel. From the very beginning to the last, MacLean takes you through a hard journey through your emotions and brings you to a place of renewal and inspiration. Other than some very short choppy spots, it’s an overall good story.
This was such a wonderful, unpredictable story. I completely lost myself in it and had no idea what was going to happen until the last page.
