From USA Today bestselling author Julianne MacLean comes a suspenseful, emotionally charged novel that explores the secrets and hidden truths within a seemingly perfect marriage.

Great book! Maclean wrote a heart-warming story. Written with a real-life feel.
A riveting tale of loss, forgiveness and having the strength to continue forward on the path of life. I loved this book. The resilience of Abbie is inspiring especially when she is challenged at every turn. She continues to make the best choices she can to protect and encourage her son as well as help herself move forward through life-changing circumstances. She learns about love and forgiveness along the way.
A CURVE IN THE ROAD keeps you turning the pages–and reaching for the Kleenex. It’s a tragic but ultimately hopeful story of second chances, and a deftly-woven tale that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit.
You will find heartbreak, anger, resilience, acceptance and suspense as you turn the pages of this beautifully written book.
Abbie has the “perfect” family, life and job until she and her dog Winston are in a horrendous car accident one night while driving back from a visit to her home town.
The destruction that occurred that tragic evening changes the family, and Abbie is learning to rebuild, trust and move forward.
Her beloved dog Winston, is her rock on an unsteady mountain she climbs each day.
This book had me reading well into the night to find out how the plot played out.
I was not disappointed!
After Abbie’s car is slammed off the road by a drunk driver, everything in her life unravels. A CURVE IN THE ROAD is a fast-paced, tightly plotted page-turner; an intricate tale of family secrets, unexpected twists, the resilience of the human spirit, and the coolest dog since Enzo. I loved it!
How well do you know your spouse? When Abbie and her husband are in a tragic car accident, Abbie uncovers her husband’s secrets while dealing with the aftermath. I went through so many emotions in this book…shock, grief, anger and happiness. A Curve in the Road was very well written and the story flowed easily. I had a hard time putting this one down!
A Curve in the Road is one of the most stomach dropping roller coaster of feels that I’ve read. By the end of the first chapter, I was ugly crying. At work. For a moment, I thought I’d have to stop reading – there is a certain line that I have that cannot be crossed in books. Thankfully, said event didn’t occur, so I was able to finish reading this fantastic book.
The characters are magnificent, as is the story. Each secret revealed added so much intrigue and emotion to the story. Despite all of the tragedy, there is a thread of hope that grows as the story progresses.
I will definitely read more book by this author.
I will repeat what others have said, because it is true. This book was just…Wow. Life can change in an instant, and Abbie’s does. She had what she thought was the perfect life, but everything changes in an instant, leaving her reeling and trying to figure out her way forward. This was an amazing read. The characters were so well done, I felt the emotions right along with them. The story line moves so easily and quickly, I found myself reading and turning pages just as quickly. I didn’t want to put this down. This was my first experience with Julianne MacLean’s contemporary work, but it won’t be my last. This is a book for my keeper shelf!

Wow! This book starts off with a bang and doesn’t let up! An unimaginable tragedy strikes main character, Abbie. Author, Julianne MacLean, does a superb job portraying nightmarish circumstances and I felt like I was in Abbie’s head, experiencing her anguish and confusion. Circumstances unravel a mystery surrounding Abbie’s husband, sending her into further turmoil. Although things seem dire, an unexpected friendship does lead to a happily ever after. I highly recommend this book!
I’ve always enjoyed this authors books and this was no exception. Such a beautifully written and heartfelt book on how a life can suddenly take many different turns and things can be happening around us that we have no idea of. Much love and support in this book through so many challenging life events. Loveable characters, especially my favorite, Winston the Golden Retriever.
This book had me taking a crazy ride with the main character, Abbie MacIntyre. My emotions were pulled into the deepest of tragedy only to find that they weren’t quite at the bottom yet as the story progressed. (tissues required) My emotions ranged all through the spectrum from deep sadness, to heartache, to anger, to unbelief, to love, to forgiveness, to happiness…. My heart went out to Abbie so much. I found myself pulling for her to come through each event finding strength and courage to face each day. From the horrifying event at the beginning of the story to shocking revelations, I was captured in Abbie’s life. The faithfulness of her dog, Winston, won my heart. He was a great thread through the story to keep her pushing on and bringing her through with unconditional love.
I want to thank Lake Union, Netgalley and Julianne MacLean for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book.
This was an emotionally gripping, well-written book. Abbie is a successful surgeon, is married to a handsome cardiologist she loves, and they have a model teenage son who is months way from heading off to college. Then a drunk driver hits her car and she is rushed to the hospital. Secrets are discovered and her recovery and search for answers will test her and change her life forever. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading other books by this author.
Why wait until August 14th, this is definitely a book you want to preorder and get it as fast as you can when it is released, it is that good. I read an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. This book blew me away from the first page to the very last. It captured my attention and kept me turning the page. It was riveting and like the title, A Curve in the Road, you never know what is around the curve or coming up next in the book.
When I was reading this it felt like it got my blood pumping. the adrenaline flowing and it was exciting. It is not often I find a book that does that. Julianne took the people in her book on a journey, that told their story, with all the twist and turns, the ups and downs, and as you turned the page something else was revealed. It was fast paced and when I got to the very last page, everything was revealed, the book was complete and there were no loose ends.
This book is so good I preordered the book in paperback because I read it on my Kindle but is so good I want to hold an actual book, turn each page with anticipation and read it all over again.
A deeply stirring, emotional story of loss, grief, and betrayal that carries the reader on a journey filled with twists and secrets toward an uplifting destination where healing is found in new beginnings. You’ll root for Abbie on every step of her journey, and fall in love with her sweet dog, Winston. Highly recommended.
This book was so good, you will get sad, angry, frustrated. You will feel empathy, gladness and you will want to cry and then your heart will be happy again. Abbie not only loses her husband on the night of her accident, she loses what she thought was a good marriage. Thankfully she has a good family behind her, especially her son Zack. Her dog is seriously hurt in the accident and that brings Nathan the vet into her life. A year can be a long time and a short time. This story takes you through this first year without the life she knew and into the life she needs. I will be reading more of Julianne Maclean’s books.
Heartfelt tale from a very talented author. This is a must read.
A Curve in the Road is stunningly emotional…the kind of book that breaks your heart into pieces, and then mends it back together in the end.
A Curve in the Road is a standalone book. Like most of the stories the author writes, this one gets to you with the emotions the main character is feeling. I couldn’t help but connect to what Abbie was feeling and going through. I always enjoy her books as they are filled with relatable characters and real life situations, reactions, and emotions.
Thank you to Lake Union and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
It will send you reeling right from the start. Abbie, the main character is hit by a drunk driver and her life is never the same afterwards. She had just left her mom’s and a drunk driver clipped the back end of her SUV and sent her life spiraling out of control. The family dog, Winston, was with her and she was very worried about him. She goes through so much and then loses her husband, Alan,of twenty years. Many secrets come to surface about him that keep her life in limbo too. Who was this man she had loved with all her heart for so long? He turned her world upside down.
Their son, Zack, thought he had the perfect life with parents who loved him beyond words. While they did, his father was dishonest about a few things. But never his love for his son, or his wife for that matter. He did truly love them both with all his heart. He just had some secrets that he forgot to share.
Could you forgive someone who took so much away from your heart and soul? Would you be able to forgive someone you trusted who had a whole other life that you didn’t know about? Could you forgive someone who changed how you looked at them inside? It would be hard I know. This book touches a bit on sleep disorders which was very interesting. It’s a disorder that needs to be addressed more I believe.
Julianne MacLean did a wonderful job of writing this story. It pulls you in from the start and keeps you wanting more even after you finish. You will definitely need a big box of Kleenex handy as this story is very emotional. It is sad, funny at times(not a lot but just enough), happy, loving and just a well written story that you won’t soon forget. I highly, highly recommend this one and it’s the first I have read by this author but I do look forward to more.
Another 5 stars for another wonderully emotional book.
I loved this heartwarming book! Could not put it down!! Thank you Julianne for another great book!!
