As a hitman for hire, Percivale is no stranger to violence. From the moment he saw Blossom Jaymes through the window of her bakery, he knew he was in too deep. Not only was she as sweet as her perfectly crafted treats, but she was a soft-spoken, golden-haired angel that shone like a bright beacon in his dark world. And Percivale didn’t deal in angels. He dealt in death and crime. The even bigger … even bigger issue? Percivale’s next hit is on said sweet little baker who doesn’t seem to realize how much danger lurks around her with each passing day.
If he doesn’t get the job done, who will?
When Percivale has to decide what’s more important to him—the life of a woman who may very well be innocent or getting his revenge on the men who murdered his family—the lines become blurred. Morals are twisted and a deathly chase ensues that can only result in one thing—Blossom buried six feet under.
Or can it?
Can Percivale let his lust for revenge go in order to save Blossom from the bounty on her head, or will the power she unknowingly holds over him be what gets her killed?

A phenomenal novel by one of my favourite new to me writers!
Blossom and Percivale are not your normal heroine and hero.
Perc is out for revenge, to make the family that killed his so long ago pay in full. Blossom is just another assignment for him.
S.M. Soto writes characters you’re meant to hate. Guys who’s sole purpose is to make others miserable. But somewhere in there I found the humanity of Perc and the naivete of Blossom, and fell in love with both of them.
A fast paced, bloody roller coaster ride, and just when you think they’re safe, it becomes apparent Blossom and Perc may never be safe again.
I think we need to invent a new word for “bad boys” like Percivale. First of all he’s not a boy and second he’s more than bad. But wow!!!
Driven by his need for revenge he became a member of the Cavalieri Della Morte, a hitman. A man so dark and violent that he’s one of the best. Until his next assignment: Blossom Jaymes. Beautiful, angelic, naive Blossom Jaymes.
From the first moment he’s captivated by her and unsure what to do. She’s innocent but he has to get rid of her. But there’s the problem, he can’t let go. And together they are invincible. Blossom finds her confidence, Percivale his heart and together they find love, even if it’s cruel it’s one of the most beautiful things.
Fast paced, dark contemporary, a lot of blood and lust. Another very well written story by one of my favorite authors.
A Cruel Love is set in the Cavelieri world. I butchered that probably
It can be read without reading the series.
I’ve read a couple from the series and I probably will read Arthur’s story just because he ties into the ones I’ve read and I need closure there.
Percivale was hot as sin. Jesus, S.M. Soto really knocked it out the park with him. He was dark and brooding and so yummy.
Blossom was okay. I liked her in the beginning. Hallway through she kind of got a little repetitive and annoying for my liking. I like my heroines badass more. I did like that she brought out a softness to Percivale that was really good to see.
All in all, it was gory, dark, and sexy AF!
5 “Sinfully Delicious” Stars!!!
If there is one thing that is most certain, its S.M.’s ability to keep me wanting more. Y’all, she’s done it again. I don’t know what’s gotten into me lately, but my dark heart has awakened and it’s craving for dark romances has been unsustainable. And honestly, I’ve got to keep her happy and feed her what she wants and that’s all the darkness.
Blossom is good in all sense of the word. She’s sweet and innocent. She’s also completely unaware of the danger that surrounds her. And of the danger that’ll walk into her bakery.
Percivale, oh my, just saying his name makes my spine tingle. He is most definitely everything ruthless and dangerous. He had a tragic childhood that’s left him hungry for revenge which has also left him running rampage without a care in the world. And in turn has the head of the Cavalieri Della Morte taking him in and is now a hired assassin. And when he’s hired to eliminate a problem he’s very good at his job. But when his next hit comes in the form of a sweet innocent baker, this time it’s not that easy to eliminate the problem.
Blossom and Perc are scorching hot. Their chemistry is just off the charts. I mean, you have a hitman who falls for his prey and a heroine who falls for her would-be murderer. How can this possibly be? Oh, trust me, it is every bit tantalizing. Blossom’s sweet and Percivale darkness are a match made in heaven and hell.
A Cruel Love is a dark romance that’ll keep you thoroughly entertained. It’ll have you turning the pages lightning fast. Filled with suspense, action, intensity and so much steam. My dark heart and I were very much satisfied. Definitely recommend!
When the predator falls for the sweet innocent prey what is he willing to do to keep her This is the first in this group of books that I have read and I am not disappointed other than the fact that I have not started this series sooner. Perc was such an incredible introspective character who experienced so much early on which turned him into the man he was. The author did a great job weaving this tale with the trials and tribulations and seeing the characters develop and embrace their strengths This was an amazing tale showing a little lightness to the dark and vice versa
This book definitely kept my attention and had me dying to know what was going to happen next.
Cruel Love was written as Dark romance with twisted subjects and blood. Blossom was a simple bakery girl who lived a simple live until she met Percivale. The love was not a fairytale.. it had challenged me to accept that love existed even for a bad man…Emotional turmoil? Yes.. confusion and anger? Yes.. I loved the dark side of Percivale
What an amazing addition to the Cavalieri Della Morte!!
SM Soto is a totally amazing author that I just happened to find and now I one click all titles of hers. She creates the world of this group of assassins and drags you in. You learn to love the forbidden , dark love that is this story. I love all aspects of her characters. The darkness, the mystery, the situations. Truly, she is one of my top 10 authors and you need this book in your life!!
Percivil and bloom meet because circumstances have happened. Their story unfolds and they go through many changes and feelings. Read it for yourself to find out the whole, amazing, dark story!!
I seriously loved Percivale and Blossoms story so much. I was hooked from beginning to end with this one. Hes a hitman and his next target is Blossom but the more he watches her the more he can not do it. She knows she shouldnt have any kind of feelings toward him but the more they are together the more intense her feelings get. Now he has to figure a way to keep her safe and alive. Really could not put down and had to know what happens next!!!!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

This is yet another book written in the Cavaalieri Della Morte Series and it is amazing. I love Percivale and Blossom. He is the hired killer without much of a conscience and she is the Bakery with a heart of gold that finds herself on his hit list. Perc likes to watch her and for the life of him can not figure out why exactly he is suppose to kill her. He also has this thing with getting revenge on the Irish mob for killing his family which he witnessed as a little boy. Arthur saved him from himself and Perc goes and does anything he has him to do with no questions asked. When Blossom finds herself in serious danger in the middle of the night in her bakery it is Perc who comes to the rescue even knowing that he is going to have to kill her. This is the beginning of a road trip with a lot of revelations and some smoking hot moments? Can he save her and have her for his very own or does the Cavalieri Della Morte hold his entire being and won’t allow her to live. You will just have to read to find out. This book is so good. I loved every second of this one and can not wait to see what we get next.
A cruel Love is something else i will say that. When you go into this book you have no idea what to expect, but come out with knowing more about why it is called A Cruel Love. Both are into one an another even though neither wants to admit it thats for sure. If you want a dark read look no further because what Percivale & Blossom bring into this, its going to blow your mind for sure.
How do you even start to comprehend the madness that SM Soto just dropped on us?! It was so very wrong in all the right ways- I literally could not put this book down because I had to see where it went. There was nothing that was going to stop me from reading it because I just couldn’t imagine what the outcome would be.
This is a dangerous love, the kind of love that bends towards insanity. But from the get go, you realize that it is sort of unavoidable on both sides. They both are drawn to each other, no matter how wrong, or right, or bad for each other they would be. I think because of the situations they are in, they both want to avoid contact, but when you are trapped with someone, it is sort of inevitable.
I love that SM Soto pushes me out of my comfort zone each time, but I love that I love it even more. It’s hard to explain this book without giving too much away, but your mind and all of your thoughts will be challenged when reading this book. This book is not about flowers and hearts. It’s tough and it’s cruel, but it’s also a brilliant story giving up yourself in every way possible. These two are going to stick with me for a while. If you are looking for a darker read, and one that will completely captivate your attention, this look no further because this will check all of your boxes!
Blossom is just an ordinary girl. Living a good life with a pastry shop she love. Until she become a target.
Percival is one of The Cavalieri De LA Morte. As the hire assasin, his job was easy. Kill Blossom Jaymes before she become real trouble. Until he meet the unsual girl with a blue and a green eye.
Tumbs up for S. M. Soto for this new stand-alone. The darkness, it’s unwavering from the start to the end. Love how Percival doesn’t change just because he loves her. Love how he still with his darkness, but instead of suffocating like grim reaper, Percival darkness surround Blossom in protection.
You know the idea of a man who would do anything including die for his woman? Percival do that in the biggest way. He just took my heart with this act.
I love how Blossom change from that “good girl” to a strong woman with a backbone and calling him daddy
I love their chemistry. Definitly not easy or sweet. The darkness of that time was perfect. I won’t have it any other way.
I think Percival just own my heart in his clutch so easy with Cruel Love
I love when a heroine that seems all meek and quite finds her back bone and tells the man how it’s going to be! Percivale is one of those that does all the wrong things for all the right reasons. So that makes it really hard to hate him even when you think that you should. Blossom starts out this story being quite the damsel in distress. There were times in this story that I was not sure how it was going to turn out, or even how I wanted it to turn out. I didn’t know if I wanted them to be together or not. There were times when I totally thought that Percivale didn’t deserve Blossom, and not for the reasons that he thought he didn’t deserve her. If you’re looking for a semi-dark romance this is a great one to pick up…. it doesn’t go TOO dark but still that level of darkness is there! Great read.
Such a great book absolutely loved it so much emotion happening highly recommend it
What a dark, twisted, yet perfectly written love hate read. I really enjoyed this book and couldn’t put it down. Soto has a way with words, she reels you in while taking us on her dark, crazy rides that I absolutely love.
I cant wait to see what she comes up with next.
What a dark and delicious tale!!!! Percivale was so hot and cold with Blossom, but deep down he knew he’d never be able to let her get away from his clutches. She was his regardless of how she felt about it or how much danger it out both of them in.
I loved the instant chemistry between the hero and heroine! The lust was so hot and captivating, despite the read being so dark and violent! No one does bloody, vengeful romance like S.M. Soto!
S.M.Soto has crushed my heart with the angsty darkness in A Cruel Love. This is about beauty of finding love in bloodstained ugliness. There is no escape from S.M.Soto’s brutally honest and brilliant words.
Percivale is the devil himself. His traumatic past has turned him into a cold, calculating, ruthless killing machine who only seeks revenge. He doesn’t believe he has any goodness inside him. Till his mission brings Blossom in his life. And Blossom turns his world upside down with her innocence, loyalty, strength, compassiona and pure love.
This is a violent and raw love story. Their chemistry is explosive with shades of darkness. S.M. Soto unapologetically describes all the emotion. Their love is destructive, disruptive, deviant, intense and all consuming. And god help me I am so enthralled by the dirty erotic love! They are a match made in hell. Percival’s dark desires find a perfect match in Blossom. The story is like a thrilling game. I could not stop turning pages. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. The corrupted and sinister crime world of New Orleans is a formidable force and Percival had to give everything he had. The mind games, the power plays, the dramatic turns, the mystery, the suspense and the mindblowing writing will capture your heart!
A Cruel Love is an addictive adventure with intense passion, insane emotion and spectacular story telling. I have felt the blood, sweat and tears right at the core of my heart. S.M .Soto has captivated me, mesmerized me and left me begging for more!
Received ARC for Honest Review
A cruel love is part of the Cavalieri Della Morte but it’s a full-length standalone book with so much feeling that will just keep you glued to your seat till the last page.
We know that all of the heroes are paid assassins and Percivale us no exception. He had such an unfateful past that made him seeking revenge but along the way comes a sweet and shy woman, Blossom that is so oblivious of what is happening around her and even if he has to do his job, he also has the urge to protect her from everything that she isn’t, and that makes him the perfect hero.
A fast-paced, suspenseful read with a lot of chemistry between the characters, great banter and of course, a darker side of each one of them but such a perfect match.
An auto-buy author that brings more angsty books towards us and everyone should read her.
Another great story from this series. Percival is just a dark, brooding man that is out for revenge, but along the way the tiny little baker Blossom stirs stuff in him that she shouldn’t, specially because he can’t leave her alive!!
4 Stars.
You ever read a book you love so much you can barely stand it? A book that consumes you from the very first pages and never lets go? This is what SM Soto has done to me with A Cruel Love. I absolutely loved everything about this book. SM Soto’s writing was so clear I felt like I was watching a movie. The storyline was fast paced and so well written I could not stop reading until I had devoured it all. The violent scenes were so well written and brutal I had tears at times. The sexy scenes were so hot I felt like my eyeballs were going to melt out of my head and my Kindle was scorched. The tension between these two characters was off the charts. Most of the time, that is my favorite part of a book and SM Soto delivered all the tension I could handle and more. At first, I had a hard time understanding Blossom because she seemed too weak, too vulnerable. But then, SM Soto smacked me in the face with Blossom’s past and my heart was bleeding for her. I love that throughout the book, Blossom found her confidence, her strength to go after what she wanted. And Percivale. Ah, Percivale. He is my new favorite book boyfriend. I’ve claimed him so don’t even try. He is the ultimate bad boy with a heart of gold. How do you fall in love with a killer? A kidnapper? And yet, I gave him my heart in the first few pages and he still has it. I love how throughout the book, even though he is supposed to be dangerous to Blossom he always protects her. He learns how to love and be vulnerable to his feelings while Blossom is learning to be stronger. They were a perfect match. I can’t say enough good things about this book to do it enough justice so I’ll just end with this: READ THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW!
