“They burned it down once…they should burn it down again.” Once the star of Scotland Yard, burnt out East London detective Jack Sheridan is now a washed up cop working a low end station, estranged from his family and haunted by his past. The discovery in woodland of a young woman nailed to a wooden cross sends Jack spiralling into a direct confrontation with that past when the woman is identified … with that past when the woman is identified as the daughter of a murdered cop he once knew. With a serial killer the media are dubbing the ‘Crucifix Killer’ slaying working girls on his patch, Jack must face his own demons and uncover a series of terrible secrets if he is to find the twisted killer.
On his way to the Tunisian border, Alex Dorring is informed that his sister has been murdered. Dorring is Agent 192 of Uriel, a clandestine assassins wing of MI6. With revenge on his mind, Dorring makes his way to London and begins investigating her death in his own special way. As he moves like a ghost through the underbelly of the city, he meets Chloe, a troubled nineteen year old trying to escape the very people Dorring has come to hunt. Could this girl be the key to leading him to the killer?
As both men operate under entirely different rules, the death of one girl sees a bed of lies, sexual violence, murder and corruption come rising to the surface as East London descends into chaos.

A bit much – but I’d read more re. Jack Sheridan.
ack Sheridan, a burned out detective sergeant with the London police. He’s dogged in his pursuit of the killer of Becky Dorring, left crucified on a cross. The irony is her father, a former police officer, was also nailed to a cross after he had been killed.
Alex Dorring, the assassin for British MI6. His involvement pretty much saved the story for me. One nasty killer.
Too much ‘skim over’ material in the story. The author put in more side material than he really needed. Also, there are a couple of loose ends. Will they be resolved in the second of the series?
All in all, nothing really exciting here.
OMG! What a great story. I enjoyed reading this book and was sorry to see it end!
I enjoyed the plot twist, although you could see it coming, a mile away.
Looking forward to the next book. Hoping questions left unanswered will be revealed.
Good, quick book. Liked the main character, Jack Sheridan.
Great story and wonderful characters. I couldn’t put it down. I loved it so much I read the next two stories in the series all in a matter of a week! The story takes many twists and turns and keeps you guessing till the end. I’d highly recommend it.
The writing was lovely but the story was unrelenting tragic.
Quite the mystery with lots of twists.
Great book.
I never could get into the book so did not finish it.
This story kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved the length and depth of the story. No detail was left out and the characters were most definitely believable. I immediately bought the other two books in the series and am now reading the second one. Very hard to put down.
Great Read
I really enjoyed this book it was a bit over the top in its descriptions of torture but I would recommend this book for anyone who likes character-driven procedural. I look forward to reading another about these characters. Thank you.
Just finished this today! Could not put it down. The story moved along with just the right amount of detail. I am hoping that the one character’s ending will be commuted in another book. Mafia, murder, government killers, crooked cops and sad lives make for an engrossing read.
Love the flawed detective.
Loved the events
The story started so well and was fast flowing, but as it got more and more involved the story line got too unbelievable. I persevered till the end but was disappointed into how unbelievable it was, it stated so well and was gripping.
I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book and first time read Vince Vogel book but found I couldn’t put it down once I had started. Kept you in suspense. Very intriguing and after awhile quite liked the main character as you could see him plodding along and finally getting to solving the case. Great read, and looking forward to another Vince Vogel read.
