Who doesn’t love a wedding? I was barely into the book and I laughed, tears fell and then, I sat smiling while I “attended” the long awaited day. I’ve been a fan of this series from the beginning and am amazed how each book is different but has the same small-town feel with big hearts in family after family. Rory arrives unexpectedly on the wedding day; Damaris is one of the bridesmaids; and, need I say more!! Those are perfect names for the characters in this story-line and I loved every moment of this book. I want to live in Eagles Nest.
Oh my goodness! This is the best McGavin book yet! What can be better than a sexy Scot that’s sweet, romantic, loves animals, and has a bone-melting accent? Rory is one of my favorite heroes. Damaris is attracted to Rory at first because he looks like a character on her favorite series, Outlander, but soon fell for the real man. I love VLT’s books because she has a talent for drawing you into the story. It seemed like I barely started reading when I finished. I can’t wait for the next book in the series! That one will be about Rory’s brother, Aleck. Hubba hubba! 😀
Wow this book was so fun to read – the start sets the tone and from there things just happen – as real as real life for me!! Enjoy the story and the final HEA at the end – LOVE this series!! On to the next book!! Thanks!! Vickie!
Rory McGavin is needing a break, an escape to really get a new lease on life for a bit. He comes to his cousin’s wedding and that is when we get a fun adventure continued as the McGavin’s and Sawyer’s have a wonderful story shared once again in this fourteenth novel in this wonderful series!
There are many different ways to learn from others and Damarius will teach a lot of hard knock lessons to Rory through her example. Being stronger than he would imagine, he finds he can learn a lot about how to let go and be himself. Isn’t that what we all are looking for?
This novel is definitely another 5 star treat that everyone can enjoy! Spring into action with this great new addition to the McGavin series! It’s a delight and joy! I gave an honest review in exchange for a copy of this novel.
This has been a terrific series so far, and now we have Scottish cousins. Yes, please! Rory arrives in Eagles Nest in the middle of the action, and he is fascinated by life in Montana. He is also fascinated by Damaris Gataki, April’s friend. The two of them hit it off immediately and decide to spend as much time together as they can before Damaris has to go back to California. They quickly realize that they have the basis for a solid relationship, but there are huge obstacles to making it work. I confess that I couldn’t see the resolution until the very end, and I got pretty emotional about it.
Rory was a hoot! He has a lovely sense of humor, even at his own expense. He fit right in with the McGavin and Sawyer men. He is a gentleman who always tries to do the right thing. And he isn’t at all put off by Damaris’s intelligence. He is attracted to it!
I want to be Damaris’s best friend. She is super smart and witty and not afraid to say what she wants. She seems to appreciate her life and blessings. I really liked her.
The cast of supporting characters is terrific, too. Kendra and Quinn keep the action moving and laughs coming. Mandy is expecting a baby soon, so we are waiting for that. Some favorite horses have cameos in this book, too! But my favorite was Ellie Mae. She stole all her scenes and made me blush!
Overall, I would describe this book as sighingly romantic. I was caught up in the story and characters and how beautiful their relationship was. I highlighted so many sweet things they said to each other. Absolutely a keeper!
For me, these are the perfect characters; a super-smart, dedicated woman and a smart, sexy, Scottish man. From the moment they meet, Rory and Damaris share a connection that they have only a short time to explore, but sometimes a few days is all you need to find true love.
I read an advanced copy of this book
Vicki Lewis Thompson’s A Cowboy’s Worth, the newest book in the McGavin Brothers series, opens with a joyous occasion—Ryker and April’s wedding. And the McGavins have a very unexpected guest for the nuptials. Rory McGavin, Kendra’s nephew and the brothers’ cousin, has gotten himself in a mess (or a “guddle,” as he would say) back home in Scotland after being seduced by his boss’s manipulative daughter. He flees Scotland for Montana in an attempt to put distance between himself and his troubles. Rory’s plan has the added benefit of finally getting to know his American relatives. When Rory shows up on Kendra’s doorstep, he’s surprised to find that he has arrived just in time for his cousin’s wedding, but he’s more surprised by the woman who comes to the door with Kendra. Damaris Gataki, April’s best friend, has come home for the wedding, but she needs a break from her job as a theoretical physicist, so she plans on staying at the ranch after the newlyweds leave for their honeymoon. Rory is hesitant to get involved with anyone after his recent misfortunes, but he can’t resist Damaris and, with them both staying at the ranch, a little romance is inevitable. They’re soon surprised by the depth of their feelings for one another. Maybe this won’t be a quick week-long fling after all. But when Rory’s problems back home grow more complicated, he and Damaris have to face the reality that their relationship may be impossible.
As usual, Vicki Lewis Thompson has an amazing way with words. I always enjoy her books because she writes such vivid descriptions. And while this is Rory and Damaris’s story, the first compliment I want to pay Ms. Thompson is for the beautiful descriptions of Ryker and April’s wedding. Their horseback wedding thrilled me. I could picture what it would have looked like and sounded like (those galloping cowboys!). Actually, sound brings up another enjoyable aspect of this series. Ms. Thompson engages multiple senses to bring her books to life. Whether its the sound of horses in this book or the wind from the blizzard in A Cowboy’s Holiday, she always finds a way to bring sound to the written word. This book also contains a scene where Rory dresses in his kilt and plaid, and the way Ms. Thompson describe the feel of his plaid make it so easy to imagine what it felt like to Damaris. I love an author that can make me feel immersed in the world she’s created.
Okay, this next bit contains some spoilers, so read at your own risk. Seriously, stop reading if you don’t want any details. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
******SPOILERS AHEAD!*******
I think the aspect of this book that I most enjoyed is that Rory and Damaris both decide to relocate to Montana on their own. I love a book with a whirlwind romance as much as the next reader, but sometimes I find it so unbelievable that two people will change everything in their lives for a person they’ve only known for a few days. With Rory and Damaris, they each realize that Montana offers them something that Scotland and California doesn’t give them anymore. And although their feelings for each other influence their decisions to a degree (especially for Rory), ultimately I feel that each character would still be better off in Montana even if the other one hadn’t also decided to relocate. But the fact that they both need the freedom and change that Montana can give them demonstrates how well-suited they are for each other. So Ms. Thompson finds a way to give her characters a whirlwind, exciting romance and to have them both end up in Montana while still respecting each character’s individual dreams and career goals—the perfect blend of romance and reality.
It should come as no surprise that I highly recommend this book.
A Cowboy’s Worth continues the McGavin Series of books and believe it or not it keeps getting better! Eagle Nest is getting ready for the wedding of Ryker McGavin and his bride April. Cousin Rory arrives just as the outdoor wedding is beginning to take place. Rory needed to get away from Scotland and decides to surprise his American relatives. Rory has a desire to see what a Cowboy’s life is like. He knows nothing about riding horses or what life on a working horse farm is like. At the wedding Rory meets Demaris who is from CA and is one of the bridesmaids. The two of them discover a connection that they begin to explore. However, not all is calm on the home front in Scotland! The reason why Rory left “snowballs” and with the help of his solicitor brother he needs to solve the issue quickly plus he wants to see how things go with Demaris. Being from two different worlds proves to be challenging can they do it!!
The Scottish McGavin’s have arrived in Eagle’s Nest in Vicki Lewis Thompson’s latest A Cowboy’s Worth. After getting himself into a bit of a guddle (mess), Rory takes off to America to see his McGavin cousins. Fortuitously arriving on Ryker’s wedding day, he instantly meets and is smitten with Damaris, one of April’s longtime friends. To Damaris, a huge Outlander fan, Rory is the spitting image of Sam Heughan and she quickly agrees to show him around while he’s in town. Falling in love is easy for Rory and Damaris, but the logistics are problematic. Good thing they are both smart enough to figure them out. I was all in with this book from page one. I loved the Outlander references and how Thompson wove them easily into the story. This was the perfect weekend escape.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.
Loved reading and exploring this new branch connected to the McGavin family vine. Can’t help but love the camaraderie of the citizens of Eagle’s Nest. Also, love this couple, not only because their chemistry melts the pages, but they are hard-workers, bold without being disrespectful, straight-forward and have big hearts. I think Rory definitely made his best decision ever by running from a bad situation right into a love he wasn’t even looking for. Who’s next??? Can’t wait to find out. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author.
Wannabe Cowboy.
On the spur of the moment Rory McGavin decides to leave Scotland and visit his Montana cousins. It is intended to be a temporary stay but that is before he meets Damaris. A cute but satisfying love story. Whilst this can be read as a standalone, the McGavin family has now become so large that a new reader may want to start with one of the earlier books in this series in order to keep a grasp of the secondary characters. Myself, I can’t wait for the next book featuring Rory’s brother.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A Cowboy’s Worth (The McGavin Brothers Book 14) by Vicki Lewis Thompson ……. If you have not read this series you must… I just fell in love with another McGavin…this one is from Scotland which is another love of mine… His name is Rory and he is cousin to the McGavin brothers… he got in some hot water in Scotland and felt it was a really good time to visit his Eagles Nest family. He arrives the day of April and Ryker’s wedding. After surprising his aunt Kendra he sees Damaris and this is where all the fun starts…. I’m not going to give things away…but i will say I laughed out loud the first time he got on a horse…. I have said before if I could move anywhere I’ve read about it would be Eagles Nest and I want to be part of the McGavin’s extended family. It was fun to touch base with old friends and laugh and cry be part of their wonderful (steamy ) journey…I will say my new favorite word is “tadger”. I’m hoping there will be a book for Aleck.
Whether you are a long time reader of this series, or a new one, you are sure to enjoy this delightful story.
Rory McGavin, a Scotsman, and cousin to the Montana McGavin, decides to take a trip to visit his cousins. Cousins he has never met. His sudden departure from Scotland was more an escape , but he needed to clear his mind.
Little did he know he would be barging into a wedding and he would meet Damaris, a woman that would likely change his life.
But the road to happiness is bumpy and filled with obstacles.
In the end, will they find their HEA or will their connection be just a memory ?
I enjoyed visiting with the McGavins and the Sawyers and seeing how they were doing. I wish Damaris would share her apps 🙂
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Welcome back to Eagles Nest. This time, two out-of-towners meet their perfect match. Damaris Gataki is back in town for a McGavin family wedding. The physicist spends most of her time stressing out about her research at Cal Tech, so being back visiting her childhood friends in the ranch where she got some of her best ideas is a huge relief from work. Add the excitement when a gorgeous Scot arrives on the ranch doorstep without realizing it’s a wedding day, and Damaris is in for a fantastic vacation. Rory McGavin, cousin to the Montana McGavins, is on the run from a problem—a girl who pursued him and is now claiming he owes her marriage. He’s not looking for a relationship, but with Damaris, it’s instant chemistry (something he recognizes because of his own science background, which he intends to use for a career in distilling). There’s no real possibility of something long term, not with two careers on the line, but oh, a vacation romance would be sweet. Until, that is, both Rory and Damaris realize that there’s something real growing between them, and vacation just won’t be long enough.
Rory and Damaris are delightfully appealing main characters, and the fact that Damaris leads Rory through a spreadsheet she’s created to keep all the McGavin clan members and their sweethearts straight is a nice nod to readers just entering the series. Although Rory’s accent is a main point of attraction for Damaris, Thompson never over uses it, and the dialog feels natural. Rory himself is a bit of a hero (fitting right in with the stalwart Montana McGavins), and his impulsive daring never treads into alpha male territory, a bit of a surprise for the cowboy genre. Instead, he’s happy to defer to Damaris’s good advice, greater experience, and clear smarts, giving their relationship a really cool dynamic. The favorite spots of Eagles Nest are back in play, but while it’s nice to catch up with earlier couples and local businesses, even the setting takes a back seat to the couple this time around (with the possible exception of scene-stealing Ellie Mae; if Thompson ever decides to write a prequel novel to the series featuring that old timer, I’d love it!).
Featuring Thompson’s usual excellence with romantic tension and steamy encounters, A Cowboy’s Worth is a stand-alone in the McGavin series that will please fans, but also give newcomers an easy entry point.
I received an advance copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
