This series is perfectly laid out in this book. Young widow raised five sons; sons now grown and most have moved to other locations; and, Zane McGavin is the one remaining son at home helping run the horse training ranch with his mother. Zane not only helps with the ranch, he rescues hawks, raptors and other large “at risk” birds. Then, after they are healed, he releases them back to the wild mountains. Having read clear up to Book 14 recently released, I went back to read where it all started. There are sensual scenes so I recommend this series for adults. This series is powerful.
A Cowboy’s Strength is a phenomenal contemporary western romance by Vicki Lewis Thompson. Ms. Thompson has provided readers with a well-written book and populated it with an outstanding cast of characters. Zane works the family ranch and rehabilitates injured raptors. Mandy left town and returns to help her mother pack to move. But she wants her to move to NY instead of into a place in town. Zane and Mandy’s story is fast-paced and full of drama, humor and sizzle. I loved reading this book and look forward to my next book by Vicki Lewis Thompson. A Cowboy’s Strength is book 1 of The McGavin Brothers Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
An inspirational childhood friends to lovers story in the beautiful backdrop of Montana. You’ll fall in love with Mandy Fielding, Zane McGavin and their love story.
Loved this story.
Enjoyed reading this book.
Looking forward to the next in series.
great story, fantastic author, a must read if you like twist and turns in a story. would love to read more of her works
This story follows real life, in that our children forgetwe still have active minds and feelings after they’ve left home and do know what we want
Loved the characters in this title,
enjoyed reading!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were so real and believable. It kept me entertained throughout the whole book. I would recommend it to everyone.
Wow what a hero, handsome, sexy, loyal, understanding, steadfast and doesn’t hold grudges! Is he for real? A friends to lovers book. Would have loved an epilogue.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
First book I have read by this author, but won’t be the last. A very enjoyable story and well written. Love a good cowboy story.
Loved it
A relaxing afternoon read. Wonderful characters and interesting storyline.
When her dad is so horrible you cannot stand living in that town and you paint the whole town as a place anybody would want to leave. But, that means abandoning for 10 years the people you care most about. Avoiding each visit.
This is the story of her return and the events to help her heal and see the town and the people in a new light and what happens when she does.
I loved Mandy and Zane. Childhood friends coming together by chance or fate? Well whatever it was Mandy had issues with a tire and Zane happened to be on the road.
It was sweet. Mandy has her life New York,
And Zane’s is in Eagles Nest, Montana.
Mandy came to town to help her mother sell there house and move. But she wants her mom to move back with her.
Zane is against the idea. It’s not his place, but he loves her as much as he loves his own
Mom. Is it a good idea or not?
One stolen kiss changes things between Mandy and Zane. What will they do about it?
One of my favorite lines in this book was-
“Oh. and FYI, your bras dangling out of your jacket pocket.”
“How’re you doing?”
“Perfectamundo Mandy-Wandy”.
Must read
So much more to come.
Had me laughing and so much more.
A Cowboy’s Strength, the first book in Vicki Lewis Thompson’s new McGavin brothers series, features Zane McGavin and his childhood best friend Mandy Fielding. Zane and Mandy were inseparable as children and teenagers, but a falling out has kept them apart for years. When Mandy comes home to Montana to help her mother move, the pair is reunited after Zane rescues Mandy from a flat tire on her rental car. This chance meeting sparks a romance between Zane and Mandy that is very different from their prior friendship. Of course, no romance novel relationship is without its conflict. Zane is a Montana boy through and through- dedicated to his family’s ranch and his raptor rehabilitation program. Mandy fled to New York to escape the bad memories of her parents’s bitter divorce. Zane can’t imagine a life outside of Montana, and Mandy would be happy if she never saw her hometown again (or so she thinks). Can Zane make Mandy fall in love with him and Montana enough to make her stay or is their relationship doomed to be a fling that will haunt Zane forever?
I love Zane’s character. He is everything you want a cowboy to be- sexy, rugged, and loyal (especially to his family). But Zane has more depth than the stereotypical cowboy. He also runs a raptor rehabilitation program that he hopes to develop into a full-fledged center someday. So, in addition to being a sexy cowboy, Zane is a hero to wildlife.
Mandy’s character took me a little longer to love. She desperately wants her mom to leave Montana and come live her in New York. Mandy means well with this plan, but she doesn’t appreciate what a full life her mom has in Montana. While she obviously loves her mom, it’s clear she doesn’t really know her mom. Then again, it doesn’t always seem like Mandy knows herself very well either. It bothered me that she was so out of touch with her mom’s life outside of their relationship, but as the story progressed, I felt much more sympathy for Mandy’s feelings regarding her family.
I love that Zane and Mandy have a history together. I enjoy the romance so much more when the characters actually know each other. I feel like this book is stronger because there is a history to explore between Zane and Mandy.
My only real complaint about this book is that I wish the falling out between Zane and Mandy had been more fully explained. The explanation felt lacking to me, and the estrangement between Mandy and Zane’s family seemed forced considering how close Mandy’s mom is to the entire McGavin family. Regardless, the book is a great read, and I loved getting to know Zane and Mandy (and their families). I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
I received a free ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
