I enjoyed this book and story but have to say that the tone of the first 3/4ths of it is super melancholy. It was heartbreaking and while we do not see a lot of dark things on the page, just seeing Justin in the state he is in, both physically and mentally, is hard. Seeing his friends and family around him and their reactions is also really hard. Justin is stubborn and wants to continue to live alone as he seems to think it will be easier on everyone. While everyone else wants the opposite.
I would say that Sam helped lighten this book a little bit. His compassion and unwavering support played a big role in this story. The writing was great and while I think the pacing of the book made sense to the story and the characters, I wanted just a little bit more of the MCs together and happy. This book was really more of a continuation of the storyline from the previous books and answering a lot of those questions that we were left with at the end of book 2. The romance was more of a sideline story.

Finally we get the complete story from Justin, and boy was it worth the wait. The reader cannot help but feel for the emotional and physical journey Justin had to endure to get back to his family, but no one would have put Justin and Sam together – but they are the perfect yin/yang combo. Definitely a storyline that had me on the edge of my seat and the ending could not have been any sweeter. Love this series.
There’s a lot happening in this story. Justin has a painful history and when he feels
the end is near, he wants to go home. Everything comes crashing down around him
and he has to decide if he deserves the love that is being shown to him.
A Cowboy’s Home gives us Justin’s story and the answers about where he’s been and what led to his disappearance. Those answers are a bit over the top and while I did struggle with the believeability, this is fiction, so some allowances can be made. It did make for an interesting storyline. I was a little disappointed in the romance side of this one. I’ve loved the flirty Sam and his first appearance in the series, so I was looking forward to seeing him get his happy ending. However, these two absolutely frustrated the daylights out of me. Some of it was necessary for the story, but they spent a lot of time skirting around the attraction. Then, they go from zero to sixty and are all about being in love. In the end, I did enjoy the tension and suspense of the story, but I felt like the romance took a backseat with a rush at the end to tie it up and bring these two together. I would’ve liked to have seen their romance given the time these great characters deserved.
