I have been a fan of Vicki Lewis Thompson’s McGavin Brothers series from the beginning and A Cowboy’s Holiday is no exception. Thompson has created a fun, interactive small town in Eagle’s Nest and I always enjoy a visit. Her characters are fun and a visit is always enjoyable. Pete and Taryn were the perfect friends to lovers slow build. Eagle’s Nest knows how to do holidays and Christmas is no exception. Cuddle up with a fuzzy blanket, a fur-baby, and your drink of choice with this festive holiday read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.
A Cowboy’s Holiday (The McGavin Brothers Book 12) by Vicki Lewis Thompson …. I can’t get enough of this series and these people…Vicki makes me feel like I am part of this group of people and I can’t thank her enough for letting me preview this book. It was so much fun spending time with all my old friends.. welcoming Noel…Josh and all his cuteness … This was Pete and Taryn’s story and it was full of laughs, love, steamy sex and of course a very HEA.. I remember going to the barn at my Grandparents to see if the cows would talk at midnight…they never did… also I don’t want this series to end… will Brenden and Jo get a story?
Christmas, Snow, Babies and Family.
If you have read other books in this series then you will enjoy seeing the last Sawyer sibling find his match. If you are new to this series you may be overwhelmed by the relationships of this ever expanding blended family. Hopefully the author will start to include a family tree in these stories to keep us all straight.
Taryn Maroney, a newcomer to Eagles Nest, is developing a guest ranch due to open in a couple of months. Recently divorced after a short lived marriage she employs Pete Sawyer as her foreman to handle the riding stable part of the operation. During the past seven months a good relationship has built up between them but this tips over into an intense attraction when he helps her assemble a bed in the honeymoon cabin. They both try to keep a professional relationship but when a snowstorm lands them together overnight, all bets are off.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The author takes us back to Eagle’s Nest, the town of the McGavin’s and now the new home of the Sawyers. The family is expanding now that Quinn Sawyer and Kendra McGavin are an item and all their children are living close by.
This time the story belongs to Pete Sawyer and Taryn Maroney. Pete moved to Eagle’s Nest after his Dad, Quinn, sold his ranch. Now he is the foreman working for Taryn, a new resident of the town, and the new owner of Crimson Cloud guest ranch. He’s been attracted to her for the past 7 months he’s worked for her. But neither wants to cross the line, that is until a blizzard traps them together.
But things don’t go as expected. Will past experiences keep Taryn from taking the step to more with Pete? Will she continue to compare Pete to her past , and can they take the relationship from “a job to a life” ?
Though it was more of a 3.5 for me, it was still a sweet holiday romance that was entertaining and gave the long time reader a glimpse as to how everyone in the family is doing .
I as entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Vicki Lewis Thompson has done it again. I absolutely adore this series! So many wonderful characters and great family dynamics. This is the kind of series you hang onto and read OVER and OVER again! I HIGHLY recommend it!
Taryn and Pete are a fun couple as their attraction grows. They are so in sync, the woman from San Francisco and the veteran rancher. She’s full of enthusiasm and ideas for the guest ranch he’s helping her build. He’s impressed by her tireless work ethic, fearless way she rolls up her sleeves to muck stalls and the way she takes to ranch life and fits seamlessly with his family.
He loves that her hair matches that if his horse, Clifford, and the way she makes his heart pound and the rest if him ache for a simple touch.
She’s afraid to mess up the perfect working relationship. She needs him for her business. She wants him, but a past relationship mistake leaves her wary of serious entanglements.
This pair is sweet and have a few scorching kisses, then more when a blizzard blows in sooner than expected.
VLT really knows how to write cowboys, or at least our fantasy one, as well as heartwarming families with real hangups, hardships, baggage and other experiences that make life worth the effort. This McGavin/Sawyer clan is an awesome example of all if those and so much more.
I love the Eagle’s Nest series that Ms Thompson has created! It’s a town that I’d love to live in filled with people I’d be proud to call friends!! Christmas romances are some of my favorite stories to read and this one is at the top of that list. What makes this so special is that Pete and Taryn became friends first even though he was her employee. Pete is a wonderful hero; strong, masculine, sexy, courteous, and a gentleman. What woman wouldn’t fall in love with a guy like that? Taryn has some trust issues because of her broken marriage and tries to keep Pete in the friend category, even after they give in to their desire. The magic of Christmas helps.
I recommend this book. In fact, I’d recommend all of the books in the series. This is a stand-alone, but they’re all so good that they’re worth reading!
This is entertaining, romantic and sweet. Pete is romantic, charming, chivalrous and sweet, and he’s a gentleman. Taryn is stubborn, vulnerable and outgoing. He has been her foreman for 7 months, but he wants to be more. And while she is attracted him, she doesn’t want a relationship with him. But they end up going to some off the ranch gatherings together, and get closer. The gatherings involve family and extended family, which are fun, happy occasions, and help her see him as more than a sexy employee. This series is so entertaining, I love it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
I love this series and can’t wait for the next one. They are fun but they make you feel like you are part of the family.
Wonderfully romantic. I absolutely love every one of this author’s books. The storyline and the characters get captured by my heart that I find myself smiling through most of the book. Puts me in a great mood. When there are emotions to feel, I do. Taryn and Pete are going to steal your heart, like they did mine. Visiting old characters from the series is always a plus!
This book had a super romantic feel to it from start to finish. Taryn and Pete like (like) each other and it was a great story without any huge blow up in order for them to realize they like each other and that was refreshing. Don’t get me wrong there is the “disagreement” part in the book but it was more of a “time away from each other while Taryn realized she wanted to be with Pete”. Of course Pete always knew.
The extended family can get a little confusing if you haven’t read any of the previous books, however they don’t have a huge influence in Taryn and Pete’s story.
Welcome back to Eagle’s Nest–like the previous books in this series, this romance doesn’t disappoint, both in the relationship between the two featured characters and in the return of so many familiar faces and places. Here, Pete Sawyer has a crush on the rancher for whom he’s a foreman. But in the months they’ve been working together, she’s never once flirted with him, so he didn’t think he had a chance. When Taryn Maroney finally gives into her own attraction for her foreman, sparks fly quickly. The buildup from first kiss to full body contact moves quickly (with the added pressure of a snowstorm keeping them separate from the outside world while they explore), but the heat is believable. Taryn’s roadblocks–she’s afraid of a new relationship moving too fast because her first marriage went badly–reinforce the quick movement from friends to lovers. Her change of heart comes a bit too quickly for my taste, but Pete is a stand-up guy throughout, whether he’s playing with his nephew and teaching him to kazoo, working the ranch, or trying to stoke the flames of his relationship with Taryn. Hints of the next couple have me really excited for the next volume!
Overall, this isn’t my favorite of the Eagle’s Nest books, but it’s a solid entry, and it’s exciting to spend a second Christmas season (and repeat traditions I fell in love with in a previous installment!) with one of my favorite fictional communities.
(I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)
This is such a sweet book! I have been waiting to get to know Pete better, and he was just as great as all the other men of the series. He might even be the sweetest of all of them. I loved the way he listened to Taryn and showed respect to her as his boss. They have a great working relationship, and that makes a romantic relationship dangerous. But Pete can’t help trying, and he amazed me with the things he said. He even choked me up toward the end.
Taryn is a ball of energy. She is absolutely ready to tackle any job on the ranch, and she believes in herself as a professional. She isn’t sure that she can believe in herself to make romantic choices, but her inherent bravery keeps popping out. She is a fun character. I really liked that she listened to Pete about ranch business. She knows that she has things to learn, and that is why she has Pete around. I am not impressed by heroines who want to show their independence by ignoring everyone else’s advice. Taryn is too smart for that, and that makes her stronger.
Most of the previous characters are back. Josh steals several scenes, of course. The Whine and Cheese ladies put on another hilarious show that I would pay good money to see. Horse lovers will adore Taryn’s horses. And we get a couple of new characters. I sure hope Brendan and Jo are next to get a book! This is another strong entry into one of my all-time favorite series.
Another heartfelt story in this series! I loved Pete and Taryn’s relationship and wondered why it took so long for them to actually get together. The family interactions were awesome – a great coming together story all around. I’m ready for Christmas now!
A blizzard can’t keep you warm but mixing Honeymoon and bed together with Taryn and Pete can warm you really fast! To have Taryn have ice melted off her heart after a recent divorce could be good or bad. Which will it be? The McGavins and Sawyers come together as Quinn Sawyer sold his ranch and since Pete Sawyer, his son was running it, he found a new job. And so Pete Sawyer starts working for Taryn Maroney but notices his attraction growing for her the last seven months since he started as foreman on her ranch.
The rough past Taryn has means more than Pete can understand Taryn thinks. Taryn has a wall built to protect her from making the same mistakes she has in the past. Life can be clear and happy with support. The McGavins and Sawyers have shown this to be true time and time again. This story is just as enriching, warm, loving, and so so soothing as the other 11 in this series! The author really kept the stories more and more enticing, adventurous, wholesome, and as positive the whole way through the McGavin series. It is a good read that can warm you fast and remind you that life can be what we make it! Pete shows this time and time again. This is an honest review that is given in exchange for the ARC of this novel received.
There’s nothing better than spending a holiday in Eagle’s Nest, Montana.
Taryn has high hopes for Crimson Clouds Guest Ranch and Pete is with her every step of the way. From moving furniture to caring for the horses and putting up Christmas decorations to waiting out a blizzard, Taryn and Pete find out they not only work well together, but they play well together too.
I read an advanced copy of this book
Loved reading this story and revisiting with all the character from past books – making it through a blizzard is tough – thankfully they were prepared, somewhat – the banter and the descriptions are so real, you are there with them every step of the way to their HEA
Being romanced by Pete. I like Taryn, she is very independent and hard working but about as skittish as her horses can be when it comes to romance. I really like Pete, he has a very calm and collective personality yet he is very resourceful, romantic and patient. The McGavin family circle is always a supportive and heartwarming group and it’s always such a joy to read about and bask in the warm of their outpouring of happiness to all they come in contact with.
