Oh my! I do love a good second chance romance and this one has it all, good romance, good suspense, great chemistry, and all the feels you can handle. Danny is the sheriff and called in to help a damsel in distress and is amazed when it turns out to be Skylar, his high school love who left him behind. She is being abused and stalked by her ex but Danny gives her shelter and provides protection. So. so good with an excellent backstory. Definitely kept me turning the pages deep into the night.
This is another great read in this amazing series. This is Danny and Skylar’s story. They were wonderful characters with great chemistry. I also loved catching up with the wonderful characters from previous books. This book pulled me in from the beginning and kept me turning the pages until the end. It was a fast-paced read full of suspense and danger. I can’t wait to read the next book and I would definitely recommend this book and this series.
I absolutely loved this story. I found Skyler and Danny to be a great match. This book had so much gong for it. From the drama of why Skyler came back to her hometown to the attraction each seemed to have never quite got over. Not to mention the suspense surrounding her ex. Danny was such a wonderful guy. The attraction and connection they had was so hot and steamy I found myself having a hard time putting this book down. I loved the HEA!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I’m going to start this review with a warning. If you have been in or are in an abusive relationship, this book may push some triggers. Donna Grant handles the topic very well and the abuser gets it in the end, but it might bring back unwelcome memories.
A Cowboy Like You is the fourth in the Heart of Texas series by Donna Grant. It can be read as a Stand-alone, but I would recommend reading the whole series. Great Alpha characters and strong Heroines. Really great series and characters in this book are introduced in the other books in the series.
Skylar never thought she would end up in an abusive relationship. It sure didn’t start that way. Before she moved in he said and did all the right things, never spoke down to her or showed any signs of violence. But the day she moved in, her world changed. Now she just wants to get her life back and to get away.
Danny dreads this time of year. Not only feeling very alone himself, but as a Sheriff, he knows the holidays also brings with it depression, crime, and all around craziness. The last thing he expects is to run into his High School crush. The one that got away. The one he was never worthy of asking out because he knew she was destined for bigger and better things.
If you love cowboys, alpha males, and the bad guy getting what he really deserves, you’ll love A Cowboy like you!
Thanks to Netgalley & St. martins press for this ARC! This is my honest review.

I love a good reunion story! This one included an interesting twist with Skylar being on the run from an abusive boyfriend – made even more appropriate since I read this story during #domesticviolenceawarenessmonth. As with the other books in this series – Donna Grant does a great job of weaving in action with romance! I liked that the police actually took her story seriously – that is something that (in real life) is unfortunately not as common as it should be.
I do highly recommend reading the other three books that came before this one – they provide a nice background on the characters.
This romantic suspense book was full of sexy, ex-military cowboys, strong women, and cute sheriffs. It was an action packed, fast moving story about abuse and taking a stand against abuse and being a victim of the abuser. I really liked Skyler and how she finally was wiling to try and stop the abuse from her wealthy, controlling boyfriend. The author showed how hard it can be to break away from an abusive relationship and also how willing Skyler was to do so to spend the rest of her life with an old high school friend.
It was also interesting to see how Matt, the abuser was from a wealthy family and felt entitled and how he did not care what he did. He truly believed he owned Skyler. It was also scary to realize how his parents had through their actions just encouraged him even more. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
This is Book 4 in the Heart of Texas series. I really enjoyed reading this book. It is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone book. It’s also a 2nd chance romance. Skylar left home after graduation but now she’s back. She’s trying to hide from an abusive ex-boyfriend, but he finds her. That’s when Sheriff Danny steps up to the plate. He’s always had a crush on her and hated it when she moved away. I have to say that the interactions with these two are fantastic. You just want to be part of the book so that you can be friends with Skylar and help her. There’s a lot of things happening that keep you on the edge of your seat as you read. I love this series by the author, and it keeps getting better with each book. I have to say that I think this one was my favorite of the series so far. It just pulls you into the story and makes you think you are right there. I highly recommend it along with the first books in the series. I voluntarily read and reviewed this story that I got from Netgalley.
I loved this twist on a second chance romance. Danny and Skylar went to school together and both admired each other from afar but never acted on it. Now, 20 years later, Skylar finds herself in an abusive relationship with Matt and her escape plan crosses paths with Danny, the sheriff. Danny is shocked when he rescues Skylar from a crazy situation but something inside his lonely heart wakes up. As Danny works to help Skylar extract herself from her insane ex-boyfriend, they find that those long ago feelings are still strong for both of them. Dealing with Matt becomes an intense drama-filled journey for them both which kept me turning the pages. I truly appreciate how this domestic violence story was handled letting us have all three viewpoints along the way. The strong community and family Danny has around him is a wonderful addition as they embrace Skylar and lend her the support needed as she finds her way through these challenges. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
I will say this book did not disappoint at all but the book is super intense as it does deal with Domestic Violence and has you on the edge of your seat almost the whole book. I had a hard time putting this book down. You know who the bad guy is from the beginning but the author keeps you guessing on what is going to happen next and where the story is headed. The author did not sugar coat anything in this story. There is strong language and sex throughout the book so may not be suitable for all readers. This book was really good and completely worth the read. I also loved the “family” aspect of this story and how Danny surround himself with some great people who were not only friends but family and when Danny tried to withdrawal into himself they would set up and draw him back to the flock. Seriously this book will not let you down.
While I have read many of this author’s books, this is the first book in this series that I have read. It was so wonderful that now I am going to go back and pick up the other three books.
Danny has loved Skylar since high school, but he never asked her out. When they graduated she took off for the big city instead of staying in their little hometown.
Danny is now the Sheriff and he finds Skylar in trouble one night. She is trying to leave her abusive boyfriend but he finds her and tries to attack her and take her back to the city.
When the ex is arrested they find out that his family is very rich and is in the oil business. So not only does Skular and Danny have to contend with her ex but also his whole family.
Abby and Clayton from the first book of the series takes Skylar into their home. Characters from the other books also help her out in different ways.
If you love hot cowboys who will do anything for the women they love and the feeling of family surrounding you as you read, then they out this book!
I received an arc copy of this book and am freely giving you my opinion.
I absolutely loved this book and found it was a page Turner… didn’t want it to end but could not stop reading.. I loved Danny and Skylar. These two characters are amazing and the strength of the two to get through what they do…
Great book.. love this cowboy.. can’t wait for the next book in this series
A Cowboy Like You has a seamlessly blend of suspense and second chance romance which is set in a small town. There’s a good flow to the story that drew me in and kept me engaged. I liked the storyline and the characters. I especially liked the group of friends who have each other backs.
Note: This can be read completely as a stand-alone read and you will not be lost with not having read the prior books in the series (but if you like western romances, I recommend all of them).
Skylar Long flees to her hometown after being abused by the man she thought she loved, Matt Gaudet. When Matt follows her and tries to force her to return to him, Sheriff Danny Oldman arrests him. Skylar was Danny’s high school crush, although he never acted on his feelings for her. The Gaudet family are extremely wealthy and are used to buying their way out of trouble, but what they are not aware of is the many former military friends Danny has and their ability to protect Skylar. When Matt continues his brutal attempts to make Skylar his, how far will Danny and his friends have to go to keep her safe? A courageous woman who will no longer stand for being abused, a man who will protect her at all costs and a small town coming together to protect their own. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
great suspense. I love these men and how fiercely they protect their women and friends. Skylar’s situation is all too real as sad as it is. Thankfully she got a HEA.
I jumped straight into “A Cowboy Like You” without reading the prior books and this is my first time reading Donna Grant’s western romance genre as I’m more familiar with her paranormal fantasy books. I have to say though that I’m pleasantly surprised, I’m not a huge of fan of this genre, not to say that I dislike reading it, it is just that I don’t gravitate towards it. However, even without reading the earlier books, I wasn’t too confused as to who is who.
I like both Danny and Skylar, sure I wish that their characters are more fleshed out but still it doesn’t hinder my reading pleasure. As always Donna Grant is great at world building, this book not only have steamy romance, it has humour and suspense!
After reading this book, I’m most certainly will be checking out the previous books from this series.
A Cowboy Like You is the 4th book in Grant’s Heart of Texas series and complements the other books in the series well. It has the same small town welcoming feel as the previous books in the series and is full of heartwarming characters, friends/family, drama, suspense, a touch of danger, and a sweet second chance romance in the middle of it all. It is a well-written, engaging story from start to finish and once you begin reading it is hard not to get wrapped up in the emotions and drama in the storyline, it really draws you in.
Danny and Skyler are wonderfully written characters and I love that we get to catch up with the other characters in the series as well as enjoy their jovial banter and kinship; you can feel the love and concern these guys have for each other flowing through the pages. This book is a wonderful second chance love story with a sweet, well-deserved HEA. A great addition to the series.

This series by Donna Grant is so enjoyable! I’ve loved every book so far and A Cowboy Like You was no exception!
Danny Oldman is the local sheriff and he is married to his job. There is no question about that, but you also get the senes that he might have just been waiting for the right person to come into his life, or in this case, back into his life.
Skylar Long moved away from her hometown long ago, but little did she know that it would be the one place where she would end up fleeing when things went south in Houston. The man she was involved with, who she thought was the love of her life, turned out to be anything but.
Both Danny and Skylar have always had feelings for one another, but circumstances did not allow them to be together once Skylar left town. Now that she is back and they are reconnecting amidst the scary situation she finds herself in, they realize that the feelings they felt all those years ago haven’t faded.
This was a great story and it had all of the elements that I love in a romance – friendship, intimacy, and even a little suspense. Great work by Donna Grant!
Danny and Skylar’s story is fast paced and this story moves very quickly. Skylar is running from her ex who has been abusing her for months. She runs to her hometown and Danny, who is the sheriff, is there in time to prevent her ex from getting to her again. H and h knew each other from high school and Danny always had a secret crush on her. I love a small town romance and this one did not disappoint. There is a huge cast of side characters from the other books, but this can be read as a standalone. Although I will go back and read the other books because I’m intrigued about there stories. A touch of suspense in this book, even though we knew who the bad guy was. The romance bloomed a little fast for me as Skylar was abused. But still a beautiful love story. 3.5 stars
Enjoyed the chemistry between Danny and Skylar. Loved the suspense with the abusive ex on the loose. Skylar is trying to get free from Matt (the ex), but he’s from an influential family, so he thinks he’s untouchable. Danny had a crush on Skylar in high school, but never pursued it because she was on the path to leave town. Now, she’s back and he’ll do anything he can to keep her safe. Love that there’s more time spent on the ranch compound with many of the characters from the past books. Danny and Skylar are really good for each other; super sweet. Some hot moments too! Good action and entertaining story. I do wish there was more to the ending and Matt got off too easy in my opinion. Love a good cowboy romance! Looking forward to more books in this series!
A Cowboy Like You is the fourth in the Heart of Texas series by Donna Grant. While the books can be read as standalones, I do recommend you read the series as a whole to get the best out of the books, stories and characters.
Danny Oldman is a good ole boy, the handsome sheriff and single as single can be, he claims to be married to his job and simply not looking for anything serious. That being said, he still holds a flame for his high school crush, and always has her in the back of his mind.
With an obsessive, over-bearing boyfriend on her tail, Skylar Long returns home hoping to get her life back in order. Seeing Danny again brings back long forgotten memories and feelings, that both thought were buried. After their second chance begins, Danny and Skylar are swept up in a whirlwind of drama, fear and uncertainty. Skylar’s rich and crazy ex doesn’t want to let her go and is hell bent on getting her back at all cost.
A contemporary romance, with well developed characters, a loving story line, friendship, suspense and just the right amount of drama. A Cowboy Like You is heartwarming and happy, as a long time Donna Grant fan and avid reader I enjoyed it very much. The main characters are support by people that make you want their stories; Donna is a writer that always makes you want more when you finish reading.
