It was so good I don’t even know what to say.
You have to give it to Sarah J Maas, despite all the times I’ve been burned I still gave her my heart, and as expected she crushed it. But it will be okay ’cause in the end she’ll give it back and everyone will get a happily-ever-after. Hopefully.
This series has never been easy to read due to how high you emotions are involved (like I said the author is ruthless) but I’d say it’s definitely worth it, though you might need therapy or a recovery period afterward.
Prepare yourself.
I was excited for the third installment of ACoTaR, and this does not disappoint. The characters that I loved in the first two books of the series are given even more of a backstory and their motivations, even when they’re not pretty, are relatable. After this book’s conclusion, I’m not sure what to expect from the next release, but I will be excitedly waiting.
Well, I have to say that Sarah J. Maas has done it again. I’m swept away by her epic tale of Feyre and Rhys. When I first met these characters I was pretty sure it was just another magical fairy ride, but I was delightfully mistaken. It was so cool to see these characters again. Her sisters, who once were human, now changed was an amazing tale that unfolded. I loved how Amren, who in my mind is a youngish Isabella Roselini (dunno if i spelled that right), who just walks quite ethereally through the story as she seems to be the oldest of the character, and still spew the coolest and most ironic words to her audience.
Maas certainly knows how to make it sizzle between her characters. I could feel every bit of anger, passion, and intensity in the action. It made me want to re-read the entire series all over again–which I’m doing by the way.
I think that this trilogy is just short of phenomenal, and if you’re looking for a great new YA trilogy to start, you’d be crazy to not read this. Total page-turner!
I am here for all of this book — ALL OF IT. The battles, the romance, the mind games, the absolute cunning and incredible characters, the banter, the revenge, the heartbreak, the friendships… everything. Part of me hoped for a different ending (Feyre having a little more action), but at the same time, it was perfectly aligned with who she was and what she needed to do. It was a good settling at the end – a tap into each character and how they came out of the events of the book.
I’m looking forward to Nesta’s story, I’d kill for an Amren story, and don’t even get me started on Azriel. He needs his own book (series, preferred).
This is by far my favorite book. I love Feyre & Rhysand’s story so much. I have listened to the first 3 audiobooks 5 times since I found them 3-4 years ago.
The war is overwhelming. But all in all, I love the whole story.
‘A Court of Wings and Ruin’ is book three in Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Reading previous books is required before this.
Now the High Lady of the Night Court, Feyre finds herself back in the Spring Court as a Trojan horse. No one threatens her Mate, Court, Sisters, family and gets away with it. Tamlin thinks Feyre is nothing more than a naive, defenceless female, but he is going to be very sorry.
I have no idea where to start with this review, but only one word seems to come to mind and that is “epic”. Seriously this book has it all…. Action, suspense, drama, angst, heartache, love, betrayal, lies, romance, fights, and even deaths (sad but true). (Not a spoiler as I never said who dies, it could be the King of Hybern, it could be the traitorous Spring Lord, can be a significant no body warrior)
I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nails, flipping each page with anxiety, anxiously reading to find out what was going to happen next. I cried, I laughed, I screamed, I put the book down and took a big breath, I snorted, and I yelled. My family thought I had gone mad but I made it through the book in one piece. Such an emotional roller coaster this book took me on and I loved each and every moment.
I have to give a massive shout out to SJM for an bring such exceptional characters and story to life. I love Frysand, Cassian, Azriel, Mor, and Amren they are the perfect combination of humour, seriousness, witt, and family.
The only thing I have to mention that I did not like in this book was how Feyre would let Nesta constantly talk to her. Ummm hello Feyre died and has done everything for you Nesta. Yes it sucks your life was turned upside down because of the Cauldron but that wasn’t Feyre’s doing so get over your b*tchiness and give your sister some love. If you can’t tell I am NOT a fan of Nesta.
Anyway I am not going to go on about Nesta anymore otherwise my blood will boil, so I am going to end the review here and go read the next book. I super excited to see how things go for the Kingdom of Dreams.
I’ve read my fair share of battles in stories before and while some are just downright bloody, others are to gain information but the battles in this book left me with my heart in the pit of my stomach. There was never a moment where I wasn’t petrified that we were going to lose Rhys, Azriel, Cassian or Morrigan. I knew going in that everything was leading up to this point but that didn’t make it any easier and while the outcome was something similar to what I had hoped for the journey was heartbreaking to say the least.
Feyre rained holy terror down upon every enemy she encountered in this story and I was 100% here for it because through the last two books there were times when my allegiance to her faltered terribly. She no doubt had her flaws but her loyalty to everyone in the Night Court was just brilliant for lack of better words. We really see her coming into who she is as Lady of the Night Court and with Rhys by her side it is as if they were untouchable.
Rhys will always have my heart and that has not faltered since the first time he showed up on the page. After the time he spent with Amarantha you would think that would shape a person out to be the worst of the worst but that was the exact opposite for him. His courage and loyalty for the family he made was so powerful that you felt his protectiveness for each one of them even before the battles begun.
Nesta and Lucien I think were the two characters that surprised me the most because of how much they changed from A Court of Thorns and Roses to now. After what Nesta and Elain went through at the end of the last book two expect them to be the same would be naïve. While I would have liked to have more of Elain’s story, we did get a fairly big chunk of Nesta’s, so I have a lot of hope for her book with Cassian.
I know, this review is all over the place, but I really have no idea what to say that won’t give away something from the story. I could rave all day about the characters that I love and the ones I loathe *cough cough Tamlin* but Sarah J. Maas can do a far better job than I ever could.
If you have enjoyed this series so far then I have no doubt that you will love A Court of Wings and Ruin.
My Rating:
Type: Series – Book 3
Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult fantasy, Magical World
Primary Characters: Tamlin, Feyre, Rhysand, Cassian, Azriel, Nesta, Mor, Amren, Lucien
Secondary Characters – Jurian, Miryam, Drakon, Elain,
Narration: Limited third party
This book gives an amazing conclusion to this wonderful series. I adore Feyre and Rhys. Battle scenes were Epic. This book is thrilling and well-written. It did add a lot more complexity than I would have expected, yet its unique and lovely in its own way.
This review may contain spoilers from book 1 and 2. Don’t read this review if you have not read first two books in the series.
Plot
War from King Hybern in looming. Feyre and team are now aware of the source of his powers. All Prythian must fight in the war together. Feyre must deal with spring court. Feyre and Rhysand have to move through all courts looking for allies in the war. One must do everything they have in their power to save the world and for good to triumph over evil. Cause for that may differ but outcome is what matters.
This battle is also about unity and the book shows us how important this is. When there is a common goal at stake, then pride must be left outside when entering the war-tent. Everyone must work together because victory is in the numbers.
Characters
Every character has their own traits. All characters are bit more diverse than in book 2 andAuthor has juggled with so many unique personalities. We see different angles of Cassian, Azriel, Mor,Amren, Nesta,Elain, Tamlin and Lucien. I did love some of the new characters of other courts. I would definitely love to see more of Helion. The role played by Jurian, Miryam, Drakon, Weaver, Bone craver (my fav), the Suriel were just awesome.
Rhys and Feyre get to discover and unravel themselves. Their relationship is still solid and wholesome! I love how they respect each other and talk things out. Feyre has gone through several things, and how much she is grown, it is just incredible. Rhysand — My heart, my soul, my body, my everything. If I could have one book boyfriend, I would pick Rhysand every time. He shows us his vulnerable along with his soft side. Rhysand is his ultimate selfless self. His banter, humor, devotion, determination, astounding power, wicked-cunning mind nature were alluring.
War
The battle scene was epic. The last 150 pages of the book got me hooked. It was gripping. When the hope was lost, there would be hope, and when there was hope, it would be taken harshly out of our grip. With so many characters appearing, the action was astounding, the plot twists out of this world, the thrill spectacular.
I am keeping this review relatively short. it is not a perfect series, but I m ignoring the flaws and highlighting how much I enjoyed reading it. I honestly fell so hard for this series. I am obsessed with this series. This has it all, great characters, wonderful plot, secrets, betrayal, mystery, romance, redemptions, love and ACTION!!!!
I am certainly looking forward to more from this world and will soon jump into the Crescent City world!

The High Lady of the night court is now surrounded by enemy.
Feyre asked the King to break the bond between her and Rhysand. The king can’t break a bond so sacred, he only broke the bargain, not the mating bond but Feyre played along. Now she has to pretend that she has no memory of what happened. She has a plan to destroy them from the inside in her clever sneaky way. A fox in a chicken coop.
She planned to make the people see what their High Lord is leading them into. A relationship with Hybern and allowing the king to enter his land. Tamlin’s people start to lose trust in him after he chooses to believe Ianthe’s word over one of his sentries, his people who had gladly died and fought for him.
Feyre had planted the seeds and it was a matter of time before Tamlin’s people will abandon him. So she plans to take off when no one will notice only to find Lucian with Ianthe. After helping him they flee together towards home.
This book will break you and make you cry harder than the first two. The relationship between the characters, the love, their world. It’s everything!
Feyre and Rhysand gave a lot to save the world. They both were ready to sacrifice their souls for a better future. Not just them, everyone from the inner circle was.
Turned out Tamlin and Jurien aren’t the bad guys. They were playing the villains and trying what they can to turn the war to their side. I have a feeling Eris isn’t all bad too. Everyone seems to be playing deep games.
If Mor and Azriel aren’t mates then who are their mates? Will we get to know?
I want to see what will happen with the other characters. Lucian and Elain, and if they will get their happy ending. Mor, Azriel, Amren and Cassian, and Nesta if they’ll stop annoying each other and see that they belong together. Moreeee. I just need more.
What an incredible journey I have been on. This trilogy has been phenomenal. I am absolutely gutted to have completed reading all three books and whilst I know there are more books in this series, I cannot imagine this particular story being topped in all honesty. I must say a huge thank you to my good friend for the recommendation – I would have missed out reading something very special if it hadn’t been for her.
This story will always have a special place in my heart. I thought the author wrote this complex and detailed narrative perfectly. There has been so much throughout that has amazed me – all the small details especially. I always enjoy a story that has twists and turns, and I’m in awe how the author penned so many incredible scenes, taking the story in a different direction or progressing it brilliantly… each and every time.
Reading ACOTAR has been incredible from start to finish. All the emotions I’ve experienced have been fabulous. This journey has been one huge emotional roller coaster ride and I’ve loved every moment (yes, even those heartbreaking scenes). I’ve changed my opinions about characters when I never would have thought it possible, and at times I’ve questioned loyalties. I have laughed, cried, loved and despised. You’ll need to strap yourself in for all the angst – that’s a certainty!!! The characters that I have got to know and come to love are all incredible. I’m certain that we all have our individual favourites but I feel that they all played an important and integral part in the story, and they did so very well indeed.
A Court of Wings and Ruin has got to be my favourite book out of the three. Every chapter was packed with new developments and there are a lot of chapters! I was a bit daunted by the size of this novel in the beginning if I’m honest, but this book is a real page turner and I never took notice of where I was at until I those final few chapters, which was only because I didn’t want my journey to end. It was a struggle to put my kindle down when real life needed my attention.
I don’t often reread books. I think we all have ‘to be read’ lists as long as the River Nile. However, I will be reading this trilogy again – that is for certain. I have a feeling I’ll discover little details that I missed first time round, and I cannot wait to be reminded of my favourite scenes – and there are quite a number of them!
I highly recommend that you read the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. If I could give this series infinite stars I would. This story will quite literally take your breath away and I must admit I’m rather jealous of those reading this for the very first time. I need to repeat that I found this to be a phenomenal story, and I can’t imagine you not enjoying it as much as I have.
This book left me speechless! I was told it’ll be an emotional roller coaster but man! That was brutal. I reached a point when I couldn’t read anymore and had to take a break! I absolutely loved it.
However, I did find the beginning rather slow, and there were exciting parts but nothing so thrilling. It was the last 200 pg that really changed everything for me.
My love for Feyre and Rhysand only grows. I mean, c’mon! They’re too much. But I have to say how much I love Azriel and how underrated he is. Like he is GOLD! I need a book just for him, please!
Can’t wait for A Court of Silver Flames!!
This series! Just wow! So much is happening, and this story is intense and heartfelt as everyone gets battle ready.
I just love this world Sarah J. Maas has created. I love these characters! I love the writing. I love that the scenes play out before my eyes and I can see and feel everything everyone is going through.
The character growth is beautiful. Bonds and friendships are formed, there are shocking reveals, deception, constant attacks, and alliances are formed. Many sacrifices are made, and this heartfelt and emotional story will have you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Fantastic!
OMG this ending! This book just about broke me. So many feelings and so many twists and turns. I adore all of the characters and I was so worried about all of them through the entirety of these 700 pages.
I was literally on the edge of my seat trying to predict what came next. There were a few times were I had a tear or was screaming at characters or had thrown my hands in the air like “come on” or “yass.”
Definitely worth the ride.
I loved this book so much more the second time I read it. Feyre is such a bada** High Lady and Rhysand is . They are the power couple that people only dream of being. Nesta is surprisingly one of my favorite characters because of how she never backs down. I can’t wait for the next book.
While the characters are deep, the world is well-created and Rhys is awesome, I feel like turning Tamlin into a villain for being overprotective and broken is pretty messed up. She once loved him and find his overbearing way of protecting her unforgivable? At least his motivation for it was love and fear.
Feyra’s sisters on the other hand get to be selfish and/or cruel to Feyra all their lives and all is forgiven because they’re family? No matter WHAT they do or say? They basically don’t even care about Feyra.
That sends a worse message than overprotectiveness in YA boyfriends do. It teaches people to take abuse from family members but don’t forgive anyone else for being stupid and hurting someone out of misguided attempts to do the right thing. Emotional abuse is NEVER OK, even from family and I would have cut at least the older sister out a long time ago.
Sigh. I’m sorry, but I empathize more with Tamlin’s motives and mistakes than the sisters blatant selfishness and cruelty. They do it on purpose. Tamlin was just broken and messing up while trying to do right.
Another brilliantly done book in this series
A wash of emotions and images that are conveyed in this continuation of Feyres story and that if her family. This is tremendously well done. A book universe that I am in love with.
After book 2 in this series, the corruption and triple-agent situation, I absolutely HAD to read on. This one really shows us just how calculated Feyre can be if she wants to; it also demonstrates much of what she can do with her powers, which is fun.
This installment also demonstrates that this series is a well-played chess game and the author’s own ability to be calculated. This is the book that made me want to read her other works, so I’ll be continuing on in the series and maybe exploring her others as well.
I particularly enjoyed the show of true love, non-romantic love, and loyalty that this installment conveyed. A fun read that I missed when I stepped away.
4 stars.
Note:
I listened to the audiobook; the performance was decent, better than the previous installment for sure. A 4-star performance.
I have loved every page of A Court of Wings and Ruin! Sarah J Maas has pulled me into Feyre’s world and I really do not want to leave. She writes her characters and stories so well that I feel I am a member of Feyre’s family and am in her world. I can not get enough. I am excited for more.
