A great Celtic/Fae-inspired series with a perfect balance of grit, world-building, darkness, romance, and strong, flawed characters. I’m currently obsessed with this series and I finished reading it about a year ago ;).
I had such high expectations for this book. The second in this series – A Court of Mist and Fury – is one of my favorite books, and certainly one of the best books I read last year. I really wanted to love this one just as much, and I wasn’t disappointed! It’s pretty rare for me to find a book where I literally just cannot put it down, especially when that book involves detailed battle scenes with quite a bit of violence, but it really was an effort to put this one down. It was sweeping and gorgeous and just a really spectacular ending to the series. I’m already looking forward to the in-the-world-of novels that are planned for next year!
This book was so full of payoff. While I enjoyed A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury, I found both of them to be a little slow/have slightly low stakes, though I did appreciate all the character- and world-building that went on in them. This third installment used the groundwork laid by the other two and rose up to another level.
There was intrigue for days, along with betrayal, dangerous spellwork, romance of many stripes, exciting fantasy locations, exceptional battle scenes, and some really excellent clothes.
This was a fun and addictive continuation to the series, but felt a lot wordier than necessary.
Essentially, the first 700-ish pages comprised of a group of friends prepping for war… and the last bit was the big battle itself. It was compelling enough to finish, but the long, casually-paced build-up didn’t quite feel worth the neutral-to-good ending.
How come there aren’t more than five stars to rate a book???? I don’t have words to express how much I loved this book. Anyone who makes me cry and cuss out the author in my car while parked before going to work is an extraordinary writer. And Sarah Maas did just that. I was so brokenhearted that morning after reading one of the last and most emotional chapters, that I was in a bad mood all day. Love, love, love. Enough said.
Oh! My god!!! What a epic read!!! I’m so glad a few years ago that I picked up my first A COURT OF THORNS+ ROSES BOOK!! I love this series so much. The characters are so beautifully flawed in their own ways and their back stories are all so varied. I have fallen in love with so many from Rhys and to feyre to cassian to mor and azriel and Lucien as well!!! In A COURT OF WINGS AND RUIN feyre has gone back to tamlin to get the info she needs to win the war against Hybern and the cauldron. All hell is about to break loose and with not knowing who will fight at their side, bargains will be made with some of the most terrifying of creatures from bryaxis the dark entity that lives deep in the library to the carver a god killer of old to the weaver. Sarah Maas is a epic storyteller, she pulls you in from beginning to end. But this is more then a battle of good and evil this is a beautiful love story of Rhys and feyre together they will save not only each other but all those they love!! Can’t wait to read the next book in this series!!! 5 stars for this AWESOME READ!!
OMG can I just say how much I love Sarah J. Maas! She is my favorite fantasy author right now, between TOG and COTAR I am just blown away! Court of Wings and Ruin did not disappoint, picking up right where book two left off, we join Feyre as she mets out her own brand of justice in the Spring Court while all of Prythian prepares for the oncoming war with Hybern. The story literally had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Though not as intricate and richly detailed as book two, the final battle is by far one of the best written sequences I have ever read. I can’t wait until I can get another taste of the phenomenal imagination of Sarah J. Maas and the rich universes she has created with not only the denizens of Prythian but also those in Throne of Glass. Love it.. read it… enough said.
Whew! I want to apologize to my family for ignoring them the last few days, but you have to adjust your priorities sometimes! Sarah J. Maas packs so much action into her books, so many plot twists based on small nuances, you really can’t skim to find the good parts. They are all good parts. This book was no exception.
I expected resolution for several plot lines… and she threw in even more! I’m not complaining… there really wasn’t anything in the book that didn’t blend, didn’t make sense. Feyre is still a bad a@*, her friends and enemies (and frenemies) are still multidimensional and down right fun. BUT… the story isn’t over! I thought this was going to be a trilogy and at the very end of the book it says, “TO BE CONTINUED!!” Another book next year! Start my happy, but impatient, dance. Love this series, love this book, can’t wait for more!
Good book the second was defiantly my favorite in all of the series, but all of them are amazing! everyone needs to read these series. U will be missing a whole new world if u don’t! its the most incredible series ever!
Though my favorite book was the second by far, this one was pretty good. My ships continued to sail *steadily* and the action in this book really brought the life into the characters. So many things are revealed in this book and I’m excited for the fourth!!
Firstly, I didn’t think I could love Rhys more…..BUT I DO!!!!
Secondly, one area I was following very carefully throughout this book was the Nesta/Cassian tension…..it was there right at the start and kept me gripped. I really hope there is some conclusion there!
First 50%ish: Now this is a big book, a lot of info to process. Did I think all of it was necessary, no. The sense of urgency I had reading the other books was still there but I felt myself meandering at some parts.
Then I hit 50%!!!!!
My heart was in my mouth. Wowee. Now this is what I’m talking about. I wanted it, I needed it and I got it! Now this book is a full 5 stars for me!
One last note. In these 3 books I have felt for Tamlin all the way through. All the way. I feel he did nothing and was treated very, very unfairly. I would love to see him get a hea.
I really enjoyed the final installment of this series. I didn’t LOVE the first book, but the second and third books only got better. I look forward to seeing where Sarah takes Prythian from here, as well as some of the unfinished business with the surrounding characters.
This book……. This series……. This author……. I can’t even begin to tell you how much my life has been completed bc of this author and her writing! Aside from Jesus and my husband, kids, and dogs, this is all I need.
The character’s are amazing and you just fall in love with them all and want to know more of each of their stories as well-which she is going to give us that!
The main character starts out one way, but then she has to go through SOO MUCH, and you feel her struggle both physically and emotionally. Her perspective coming in gives her an edge, bc she has suffered so much more than the rest of the characters. Although they have suffered as well they have all had luxury at their fingertips. By this book the main character has really grown and became such a powerful force, along with the friends she makes as well.
Alltime favorite author, both her series are my go-to books!
I found myself more intrigued with this book than the previous two. Not that they weren’t good, but I think I really was held more captivated in this book and on the edge of my seat. The things Feyre and Rhysand have to go through and what they must endure is a lot to take in. There’s also quite a bit of sacrifice here.
One thing that really sticks out to me in this book, and possibly it’s because of bits and pieces I’ve picked up from BookTok, but I find it incredibly amazing how supportive that Rhysand is, even when he is also super protective of everyone around him…especially Feyre. He still wants her to be involved and make her own choices and be strong in her own ways. He’s just the kind of guy you would want, or if you already have that type of guy (like I do,) he’s the type of soulmate you would want for your children.
My heart broke and broke repeatedly in this book. There were times where it was put back together and times that I don’t know yet if it will recover. I love that amidst all the action and plotting and war in this book, there are also very real emotions as well.
I definitely feel like I had been missing out on this series, and I’m so thankful for BookTok bringing it more attention. That being said, fans of the first two books, or fans of fantasy romance or Fae books in general will probably love this book!
I am the odd one out here in saying that I only just enjoyed this story. I don’t think it was necessary nor did it add anything to my knowledge of the relationship between Frye and Rhysand. I did like that the story went a bit more in-depth within the life’s and histories of the other characters. The book just read to me like it was a bunch of filler between the important or actual scenes. I was board and fought myself to skip pages. This series could have been two books long and I think I would have loved it more. I hope Frye and Rhysand’s story is over because I would like to read about the other characters. Don’t get me wrong, I am glad to have read this book but if I ever decided to re-read I am only going to be re-reading book two.
This book picked up where the second book ended – our heroes planning to go to war to save all human and other kind. Full of action and intrigue, this story made me love Fayre. And Rhys and their “family” even more. The themes of sacrifice and doing the right thing (even when it’s hard) all for love is an I portent lesson for us all. They also learned the importance of working as team against a common enemy. As the story unfolded things went from bad to worse to even worse until some surprise help arrived. The author does a great job of putting the reader in the middle of the action. There were moments of breath-holding, relief, chair-gripping, tears, eyes covered, amazement, and hope. Definitely one of my favorite series I’ve read in quite a while!
I loved all of the books in this series. They made me laugh and cry and eager to get out of bed each day so I could see what Feyre and Rhys were up to. I bought the ebook, audiobook, and I’ll be purchasing print next because these deserve a special place in my library.
Amazing
Sarah out did herself with this series. Each book was better than the last and the first one was incredible (so that is really saying something). Just when you think things can’t get any worse, they do. And worse, and worse. These books are not for the faint of heart. They are thrilling and brutal in spots. Overall they are very well written! Sarah is amazing!
Beware Of Spoilers!!!
My Thoughts:
Why do I have to wait until May to get more? WHY WHY WHY??? This book was just. UGH. ACOWAR doesn’t beat ACOMAR but it’s close. This one was so action packed and I loved it. But, I really wish there was more Feyre and Rhys romance. It was present but not enough. I needed more!
Sarah J. Maas did a wonderful job on this book. I was hooked from page one and didn’t ever want to put this behemoth of a book down. (Carrying it in my purse was a challenge).
I haven’t been this excited over books in a long time. These books made me feel everything. Excitement. Rage. Love. All of it. I cannot wait to see this series grow even more than it has.
I didn’t want this book to end. If only it never ended and I could forever get Feyre and Rhys and everyone else in this book.
Except for Tamlin.
Pros:
Deceptive Feyre: I love that she gets back at Tamlin. Even if it costs them in the end. That idiot deserves everything that happens to him. He may have redeemed himself a little bit at the end, but I still hate him.
Mor: So, I had no inkling about Mor. I honestly was thinking she was just pining of Cassian and Az and was having a hard time picking between the two. Now that the light has shined upon me, I realize I was 100% blind. Everything clicked into place and I was like “well duh, that all makes sense now.”
Cassian and Nesta: I feel like they’re mates. They better be mates. They better get some love in A Court Of Frost And Starlight. I will die if they don’t.
Rhys: I want to slap that stupid man. Risking his life and making me cry. How dare you? You can’t die. Feyre needs you. Prythian needs you. I need you. These books will not be complete without you. Don’t be stupid again. We love you.
Rhys is such a wonderful character. Probably one of my favorites ever written. He’s a strong leader. He’s a magnificent lover. I just can’t with him. I now understand the term of “book boyfriends”. He’s mine.
War: The war scenes in this book had me shook. I was constantly cursing and cheering on my friends. (I see them as friends because I freaking love them so much.) They did so well. All of them. I’m glad everyone gets to see another day.
Cons:
Tamlin: Why does he have to be such a whiny baby? Just get over it already.

Anyone who knows how to read.
My Rating:
5/5 Stars
