The seductive and stunning #1 New York Times bestselling sequel to Sarah J. Maas’s spellbinding A Court of Thorns and Roses.Feyre has undergone more trials than one human woman can carry in her heart. Though she’s now been granted the powers and lifespan of the High Fae, she is haunted by her time Under the Mountain and the terrible deeds she performed to save the lives of Tamlin and his people. … lives of Tamlin and his people.
As her marriage to Tamlin approaches, Feyre’s hollowness and nightmares consume her. She finds herself split into two different people: one who upholds her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court, and one who lives out her life in the Spring Court with Tamlin. While Feyre navigates a dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms. She might just be the key to stopping it, but only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future-and the future of a world in turmoil.
Bestselling author Sarah J. Maas’s masterful storytelling brings this second book in her dazzling, sexy, action-packed series to new heights.

CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR BOOK 1
After being mildly disappointed with ACOTAR, I doubled down and bought the second book in the series. I’m glad I did. While the plot seemed somewhat secondary to the relationship development between Rhys and Feyre, I enjoy a good romance and this one delivered. There were some seriously steamy scenes in this one.
Probably my favorite book in the series. Maas’ portrayal of Feyre’s trauma was spot-on, as well as Tamlin’s shift toward overprotective/possessive. Enough so to make me uncomfortable, which is a good thing! I actually began to get invested in Feyre in this book, where I hadn’t in the previous one. She became more likeable, more interesting, and I really enjoyed Rhys’s character flip/reveal.
Oh man this book! I’m not gonna lie; in the beginning I was a little hesitant that I’d like it. I was convinced after book 1 it was going to be a Beauty and the Beast type trope and Feyre would transform Tamlin into some great guy. So yeah the first little bit I was a little salty Tamlin wasn’t stepping up to be fabulous like Beast in my most favorite Disney movie. But what actually happened was SO MUCH BETTER! One word….Rhys. Rhys is everything. I love him. I liked him in book 1. I liked that he was the only one who bet on Feyre, he helped her, and we learned in this book he was always ALWAYS there for her. His love healed her, made her stronger, made her confident in herself and supported her.
So Tamlin is crap! I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but he failed!
The family the Rhys and Feyre have is amazing. I love them all and can’t wait to start the next book!!!
Wow. People told me book two was better, but I didn’t really know what to expect. I was told some spoilers but there is now way that infomation could gave prepared me, LOL. There is so much that goes on. While I do LOVE the romantic relationships more in this book, I don’t know I would rate it as better. It is equal for sure but it is also completely different. I loved the worlds, the actions, the dialong, the characters… it was an excellent story. I’m still having trouble with the very slow pace and the lack of extreme highs or lows. The book read very level to me, not a bad thin, just something I’m not used to. Also, with everything that happened in the 624 pages, this was ultimately a romance story and the action (a good portion of it) was left for the last book.
So glad I stayed with the series. In the first book of the series, I didn’t know whether or not to like the main female character. Now I adore her, and the new male main character (no spoilers but I LOVE him!). Wonderful book, incredible story!
Absolutely loved this book. I thought book 1 was great but this was SO much better! Loved everything about this book, including the new characters – the ‘inner circle’. I honestly don’t know how Sarah comes up with such amazing characters and storylines. This book blew me away. Fantastic read!
Feyre has survived her time as Amarantha’s prisoner Under the Mountain. She has returned to Tamlin and the Spring Court, only to feel trapped all over again. The only time she feels like herself is when she spends time at the dreaded Night Court as per her bargain with it’s High Lord Rhysand. Now that Feyre has become immortal and received powers she has to reconcile what happened to her, and what she is going to do next.
I liked this one way better than the first one. I like the concept that just because it is dark doesn’t mean it is evil. The people at the Night Court are just better. I loved all of them, Rhys, Mor, Cassian, Azriel, and Amren. Their back stories were so interesting as well. I can’t wait to see where the series goes next.
The way Sarah manages to turn the tables regarding Tamlin and Rhysand left me in awe. I absolutely LOVED the relationship development here, and Rhys is now one of my favorite characters ever!
I love theses books so much!!!
One of the best books I have ever read. Perfect for young adults.
First off, this is NOT YOUNG ADULT. I don’t know how these books got labeled as such. But I like these types of books. I loved this book. I could not put it down. At first I was a little upset that the author was changing Tamlin. But the more I got to know Reysand, the more I fell in love with him. And realized how perfect he and Feyre are for each other. This book is filled with love, anger, excitement and betrayal. No emotion is left out. I had trouble putting this book down.
Well this book starts out with Feyre wasting away at the Spring Court! While she waits to wed Tamlin. She is also waiting to so what happens with the bargain she made with Rhysand. The bargain where she she must spend one week of every month at his Night Court. When he finally shows up it is at a very awkward time!
After this things really start to pick up and get interesting. I absolutely loved all the interaction with Rhys and Feyre!! The book was amazing. And I don’t want to give anything away but I can not wait to start the next book!!
And Jennifer Ikeda is one of my favorite narrators.
How do I review the book that broke me? The book that changed my life. The book that altered my soul. I had no idea that this sort of feeling was possible. My life will never be the same again … in the absolute best possible way.
I am a victim of Maas destruction. She is a master wordsmith. I’m so grateful that I live in a time that these books exist.
Her insight into Feyre’s PTSD was hauntingly beautiful. The transitioning of story and plotlines from the first book was seamlessly flawless. I am pleasantly shocked at how different the end of this book is from the end of the first book. I am glad that I listened to my friends’ advice and waited until I had book three; because that ending was NOT COOL SARAH!
There honestly will never be enough words to explain how much I love this book. It’s the best book that I’ve ever read.
Enjoyed this book much more than the first!!
–Some Spoilers–
This book definitely kept me on my toes more than I felt the first one did. The pacing was quicker, there was more character development from Feyre, and I enjoyed learning more about Prythian, the Night Court, and all of the new characters. The first book wasn’t bad by any means, but you can tell the difference for sure when you read them one after the other. Both original and unique, and multi-faceted. I’m calling it now though, the Suriel is most definitely going to be a big player in the next book!
Feyre’s relationship with Rhys is a plus in my opinion, and I felt that her discovery of the mating bond was well written. I’m also a sucker for mates/soul mate/true love/fairy tale endings, and once Rhys entered in ACOTAR anyways, everyone knew that it was only a matter of time. Even the beginning of this installment, you could tell that much had changed between Feyre and Tamlin, and that they really weren’t right for each other. Not that he’s a bad guy (or is he??), he’s basically just gone mad and someone needs to find him a mate fast before he rips everyone’s heads off.
SUPER excited to learn more about Elain and Nesta’s transition into Velaris and being immortal, and if you can’t already tell, super excited for their ships!!
I really enjoyed this book more than the first, but I was still torn. Rhys was amazing, and I could see that in ACOTAR. At the end of the book you could see his longing and how they were meant to be. I understand that Tamlin was bad, but honestly, he was just doing what he did because of what happened to Feyre. Yes, he didn’t fight hard enough for her while he was in captivity, so he was trying to protect her once he was out. He was scared. Everyone hates him so much, but in his mind she was his soulmate. It was obvious she was fated for Rhys to us, but he was a man in love. I will continue with this series after I have taken a little break. I need to know the outcome now that she is back with Tamlin.
My favorite book ever!
Wowza, this book takes you for a spin. You end book 1 on a happyish note and then you enter into this dark and dreary book. I wanted to throttle Tamlin & Lucien so so so many times. I love a certain dark and broody high lord 😉 He’ll forever be my #1 book boyfriend. I love the support he shows Feyre. I love the court he’s built. I love it ALL. This is my fav book in the series and I’d tell you why but it’ll have wayy to many spoilers. BEWARE OF THE ENDING!!! It destroyed my heart.
Ugh. What can I say about this book? By far my favorite in the ACOTAR series. Maas’ characters are tangible. They come alive on the page. The world-building sucked me right into the book. I will read this one over and over again. In fact, I may have gotten a tattoo based off this book. lol I’m that much of a fan.
I rate this whole series as the best books I have ever read.
This series is beautifully written, and the worldbuilding is phenomenal.
Uhm…so I don’t know where to start.
This is my favorite book in the entire world. My favorite book in the entire world.
I have never found a book as good as this one and everything I think about this book and Rhys and Feyre’s relationship, my heart hurts.
This is everything I could have ever needed in a book. Everything I need in a relationship.
It has been years and I still cannot properly review this book.
All I can say at the moment, is that this is the best book in the world. So read ACOTAR and then pick up this glorious masterpiece.
Also if you notice, I have re-read this book the most times out of any in my life. So that should also tell you something.
And we can cry about it together at the bar.
I love Feysand so much. My forever ultimate OTP.
