After finishing the first three books in this series I was so excited for this book to offer just a little bit more time with Fayre and Rhys and their “family”. But now that I’m done, I realize it just wasn’t enough. I’m greedy – I want more. I love this series and these characters!
I will say this story was a nice little break from all the war action as the group celebrated the winter solstice.
I guess I will just have to be patient while I wait for the next installment of A Court of Thorns and Roses!
So amazing to check in after the series and see how all my favourite characters (all of them) are!! If only SJM could do the same for a throne of Glass to give more closure on those characters and how they end up!
I think people went into this book expecting way too much.
Maas said many times that this was meant to be a bridge between the previous books and the upcoming ones.
It’s very apparent she’s setting up many storylines. I easily counted three, but since she’s the Queen of Foreshadowing, who knows what else was embedded without us even realizing it.
This was a clever way to get all of those beginnings out of the way so she didn’t have to waste 100+ pages in future books laying it all out.
Aside from those setups, she basically gave us the Velaris Christmas Special.
It was a story of moments, family and friendship, love and hope, struggling and coping, and I appreciated every single page.
I know a lot of people think this book is super unnecessary to read and found it a waste of time, but I did not! I actually really enjoyed getting an intimate glimpse of the minds of our favorite characters about 6 months after the culmination of events in the previous installment, ACOWAR. I felt this book was enjoyable to read, funny, and important for character development. We get to see how these characters live on a daily basis without the immediate danger of war,and I found it very refreshing. CAN’T WANT FOR MORE!!
I was a little nervous about this book after reading some bad (and angry) reviews, but I’m glad I read it anyway. It was a great interlude, the bridge between the ACOTAR trilogy and what I’m guessing is coming. It showed us what happens after the war, how Rhys and Feyra (and their family) reconstruct their lives and their city, whets our appetite to find more about the other two mated couples who are yet to accept it, and gives us further insight into the past of Az, Cassian, and Mor. Yes, not at the level of the emotional roller coaster of the first three books but a great read nevertheless. Don’t miss it if you’re a fan of this series.
It took me awhile to read this book. I was sad that the series was over and I wanted this book to have so many answers. I knew by its size that the odds of that were slim. I knew Sarah had other projects planned for the ACOTAR world but it was years in the making. This wasn’t going to keep me sedated. I need the Cassian & Nesta book like now. This book is a great tie into what is coming. I enjoyed the little story about the court of dreamers and seeing how they’re doing after the war. It was a fun happy book that I enjoyed but really wanted more.
I found this novella to be very calm and peaceful, a nice bridge between the chaos of ACOWAR and the next books to come. It sets up the story for them well. I enjoyed being able to see what the inner circle and the rest of the characters have been up to and how their lives are coming together. This book answers many of the questions that I know I was asking that were left unanswered in the last book(s), such as
(WHAT IS SAID NEXT MAY BE CONSIDERED AS SPOILERS, IF YOU WANT TO SKIP, FEEL FREE TO SKIP TO WHERE I INDICATE THE SPOILERS HAVE ENDED)
how Velaris and other courts are recovering from the war, how other courts are handling the new situation with the humans, and how each of the characters that we have encountered are mentally, emotionally, and physically
(SPOILERS OVER).
This novella is cute and while the last ending of the book for all three was satisfying, this ending for them is equally enjoyable. I can’t wait to see what Maas has in store for the next books!
The entire Throne of Glass series was incredible. It Is now on my top list for best reads. I enjoyed every book in the series and couldn’t put them down, devouring each one as fast as I could and was sad when I read the last one wishing there were more to read. Great characters, action, and romance rolled onto one great read!
Oh my… this was so touching!! I absolutely loved the different point of views this contained!! My heart so needed more from these beautifully beloved characters. I’ve wept with them, felt overwhelming happiness with them, been frightened alongside them, mourned beside them and celebrated as they did! Feyre has been a character that’s been unforgettable, but then so have the others. There is something to embrace and cherish in each of them. I loved this world that was just so rich and detailed. There are all of these stunningly interwoven intricate pieces that come together to tell of amazing events and how they have unfolded. I love the history that has been told through this series! Such tragedy for each of the characters that to see joy almost breaks not only them, but the reader as well. I’m forever a huge fan of Ms. Maas!! I just can’t fathom how she wrote this, her talent is stunning and simply a breathtaking thing! I hope for more of this universe because I’m not at all ready to say farewell
Loved the world that was created in this book and the character development was wonderful. Was an excellent read!!!!
She made us wait so long for what? This? No. Just no.
I loved reading this book because of all the scenes we read where the characters act like one huge family. It made me really happy to see them starting to enjoy their lives since Under the Mountain. I did have a hard time getting into it, because it could be a little boring at times. Now I’m psyched for the next book which will be about Nesta and Cassian!
A Court of Frost and Starlight is a novella where we get to catch up on all of our favorite characters setting the stage for the next novel. Feyre and Rhysand continue their love story, but Feyre also learns how to deal with her grief from the last war in the balance in her new role as High Lady but also as one of the people who lost friends and loved ones. I liked seeing her personal growth. She and Rhys’ love story has stayed true but not evolved and I think she personally needed to grow for that to happen. Nesta, who is becoming one of the more interesting characters shows a little bit more of her drama, not really advancing her character anymore but we are allowed to see a little interaction between she and Cassian which is interestingly dramatic. I can’t wait for more of their story!
We do catch up with most of our favorite characters as Feyre and Rhys host their first Winter Solstice party together. Think Christmas with the family but this family all like each other. All in all this was a solid set up to the next novel and I enjoyed look through the window into these lives, if only for the moment.
Being one of those “in between” stories in the series my expectations weren’t exactly on the high shelf for A court of frost and starlight. The book was great for what it was honestly. I’m however somewhat surprised at how some big decisions and events were revealed in a 3,1 story. Those kind of books usually don’t progress the story much and should not affect it either since it is supposed to be more of a “read it if you like” sort of deal. Although, I can’t exactly say that that I’m disappointed in what transpired. Quite the opposite! I am very excited to read the next book now more than ever.
As much as I like this book and the series in general I still found myself annoyed at some aspects that have appeared more and far too exaggerated in the later books and especially in this one. Let’s start of with Tamlin. As much as it pained me to do so I got over Sarah J. Maas’s butchering of Tamlin and Feyre’s relationship and Tamlin unexpected turn to anti-Tamlin in previous books. Tamlin was kind of written better in the book before this since he got over the relationship fiasco and at the end of it all saved the day and saved both Feyre and Rhys. His karma slate was cleansed so to speak and in my book everything he did wrong should have been forgiven. But no, apparently he deserved what came to him in this book according to the “kind” heroic main characters. They couldn’t even be bothered to pity or help the poor soul just because he made some mistakes in the past. So what? Who haven’t? And he saved both their asses even after being betrayed. I find that he is a decent guy with some flaws, like any normal person. Not for a second does he deserve the treatment and abandonment he suffers leading from Feyre’s actions.
The main characters are leaders of a court, but I find it honestly very unrealistic. A leader needs to make tough decisions that not everyone will be happy with. A leader can’t be completely selfless and charitable. Lines and restrictions needs to be made for things to go around and work long term. Feyre and Rhys does not fit that type of leader. Every “political” decision made is just too good to be true or even possible for that matter. They donate to charities, help rebuild, can’t take a day off, the soldiers gets to choose, the list goes on. They are never faced with any bad decisions that will make them have to choose lesser evils. Everything is good deeds and flowery thoughts and healing hands. Sure, the author wants them to come across likable and as good high Faye, but it’s just too much and too perfect to be realistic and relatable. In real life, that court would fall apart under leaders like that.
These were small aspects of the story that bothered me so I don’t want this review to come across as they ruined the story. Without any spoilers, this book made me really super excited for the next book and I really missed reading about this world. The author did not disappoint, but rather gave me exactly what I wanted and more. I just hope she will give Tamlin a happily ever after as well.
Not my favorite SJM. Was actually very disappointed in it.
I liked it a lot more than expected! It was so good to be back in the beautiful world that Sarah created and to catch up with all of the fave characters like Feyre, Rhys, Cassian, Azriel and Mor again.
There’s not much going on, but I could really see the ways Sarah writes, the way she builds the story and it’s magical.
One of my favorite authors
I heard a rumble before I read A Court of Frost and Starlight, that the novella was not as good as the first three, BUT SJM said that this is a bridge between the old books and the new spin-offs. With that, we were told that the Novella was, in fact, a prelude to the new books. Was it a warning? Maybe. But we were warned. Regardless of what this novella was to be, it still holds the magic that is Sarah J. Maas.
For me, the storyline was creative and heart retching. It shows the rebuilding of the Court of Dreams and beyond. The most exciting part was confrontations between Rhys and Tamlin; Feyre and Nesta; and then the uncomfortable bond between Elain and Lucien. I guess fans were expecting something explosive, monumental and not the typical day to day of the High Fae. They have feelings for too!!!
I enjoyed the read. It was not like Sarah J. Maas other books where there was fast action, blinding pacing and edge of the seat excitement, but it was still well written.
4 Stars and a tip of the Nerd Girl hat. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us!

This was a nice filler in between series. The war is over so everyone is now trying to start their life over after the aftermath. A few things pop up that will be major things later on. It’s not an action packed book and I wasn’t expecting it to be. SJM stated way early on that it wasn’t a full book. I enjoyed seeing all the different POV’s. Sort of like a preparation for the spin offs. I may have teared up a time…or two. You could probably skip this and just wait for the next series to start if you aren’t a fan of novellas..but i’m a fan so why the fuck wouldn’t I? Plus I enjoyed it. So a win all around for me.
I expected more.
