I love Sarah J. Maas’s Court of Thorns and Roses series and was naturally thrilled to have another installment released, even if it was just meant to bridge the first three books and the upcoming fourth. I can totally see where reviewers have found fault with this book – it isn’t really the most necessary addition to the series, and I wouldn’t say there is really any kind of plot pushing the book forward. To be honest, there isn’t really any character development or book four set-up either. Still, as a fan of the series, it was fun to just get lost in the world of the Night Court and to experience these characters outside of the action-driven, war-torn plot that dominated the last book. I actually liked it more because it was so meandering and easy to read. While perhaps not a good fit for casual fans, this is a lovely addition to the series for those of us who just want more time with the Court of Dreamers.
I read this in a few hours. I still love these characters (Except Nesta:() but I found this a bit melancholy and did speed read some of it as not much was happening. I can see it’s setting the scene for the following books which I am really looking forward to though I hope that they are far longer and have more substance than this novella. Nesta managed to make me want to skip her parts of the story but I can see how she will get character growth in the next story and I can swoon over Cassian any time! It’s nice to revisit the characters despite it being a quick read for me. Recommend for those that have already read SJ’s previous books & want a quick read>
This book hasn’t come out yet but I already love it.
An excellent addition to the ACOTAR series. Although this installment was really more like a long preview of more to come, it was still enjoyable with all our favorite characters from the previous books. Can’t wait for the next one!
I know this is a novella so I wasn’t expecting anything too crazy. I just love this world in general, even though I was frustrated with some things here. What was the point of Mor’s chapters? Just felt they were out of place. Especially since this is a bridge between book 3 and 4, so obviously the main character who is in book 4 would have chapters here along with Feyre and Rhys but why Mor?
Also is Tamlin getting a book? I need to be in his head! I feel for the beast and think he’s changeable. Also why the heck is Elain so rude to Lucian for no reason? I could see if he was being a creep and stalking her … just don’t get it. I want to see the Nesta who we saw in book 3, not whatever she has become. My baby Azriel, I need a full book on you! As always, the chemistry between Rhys and Feyre was on fire. Overall, as a novella, I feel it was a good glimpse of what is to come… I just wish the full book was coming sooner!
Loved it!!!! This is one of my favorite series and this installment was awesome. It’s the winter solstice and every ones together to celebrate and talk of war and enemies is put to side for now. I love the characters in this fantasy world of maas from our dark Lord rhys to feyre to mor to the two hottest Illyrians warrior’s cassian and my personal favorite spy master Az!!! This book is a love story and it’s so beautiful !!! The court of frost and starlight is the set up for the next books to come and I can’t wait!! I laughed i don’t know how many times and yes their was crying also, and that’s what I call a good read. Sarah maas leaves us like feyre hopeful of a bright and happy future.
I know that it is not out yet, but I KNOW THAT I AM GOING TO CHERISH THIS BOOK FOREVER. Plus, it’s Sarah J. Maas, all her books are amazing anyways.
i have no words to describe this book series except WOW. i cant wait for the next one.
I’m hoping there is a fifth soon
This was my first read of 2019 and it was just what I needed. A great novella filled with sweet in-between moments and colorful world-building, which are my favorite bits of this series. highly recommended!
This series is possibly my favorite of all time. They are fantastically written, detailed, and FUN. They suck you in with the realistically written, deeply realized characters and incredible world building. I can never put them down, and each book gets better and better. Can’t recommend these highly enough – they are absolutely the BEST and most addictive reads! This one is a novella, a bridge story between the three that are out and a new story arc. It’s painfully short, if you already love the series, but in a good way! Looking forward to the next major novel!
I loved that this story followed a few different perspectives but I felt like it was rushed (which is surprising considering it only covered a short time span). There were so many emotions that were brushed over or mentioned but never fully explored. I’m still in love with Feyre and Rhysand – desperately ready to read about Nesta and Cassian – and I’m still begging the Cauldron that we can get an Azriel story at some point.
This book is just a breath of fresh air after the war, even tho this series is not yet completed. I’m rooting for the next following books of the series.
This was a fast read as it was only being 229 pages long. It tells a little bit more history of most of the main characters as well as works through some of their past trauma. They are working on rebuilding after the war and preparing for Winter Solstice (kind of like Christmas). Which is fast approaching. They will exchange gifts and gather together as a family.
I enjoyed reading it but there really was no point besides a fun little break for everyone. A chance to regroup and relax a bit. All in all, it was a cute add-on, but I’m ready to start the next book in the series A Court of Silver Flames.
This book is most definitely a filler novella meant to bridge the gap between books three and four. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I mean, it wasn’t for me. If you are passionate about this series then you will love the additional glimpse into the lives of these characters.
This novella doesn’t really have a substantial plot. Normally that would be a big no from me but, since this is a companion novella, it didn’t really bother me as it normally would. This book mostly consists of our favorite characters in their everyday ordinary lives and then sharing a holiday together. Some of the characters are still trying to come to terms with the aftermath of the war and we get a glimpse of that. The book is told from different POVs so we do get different perspectives, which I always love.
I loved seeing the characters interact with each other and listen to their banter and joking around. You can really feel the bond that this group of characters has.
One of the things that surprised me in this book was the emotion that Mass evoked from me regarding Tamlin. He is totally broken in this book and it is truly a sad thing to witness. I felt pity and sadness for him. I never thought that Tamlin was an inherently bad guy. He definitely made poor choices and I will never condone abuse but I also feel like he didn’t do the things he did purposely or with ill intent. I think that his neglect of Feyre and his disregard for what she wanted and the fact that he couldn’t see the depth of her suffering were in part due to his fear of losing her. I don’t think that he was a tyrant by the strictest definition. And the reality is that the woman he loved left him for another man and his life fell apart. He lost everything. His suffering in this book really struck a chord with me. I think that Tamlin’s character has a lot of potential. I really think that he can be redeemed and I really hope that Maas decides to go in that direction. Another thing that surprised me in this book was the interactions between Rhys and Tamlin. Their first interaction was fairly brutal. Rhys was not kind to Tamlin, despite how low he had fallen. Their second encounter was even more strange. Rhys showed Tamlin kindness. It was small, but it felt meaningful. I think that maybe Rhys realized that it would do no good to continue making Tamlin an enemy. I don’t think that they will ever be friends as they once were, but maybe they can form a friendly truce? I don’t know, but I think that something may be in the works. I also liked getting Cassian and Mor’s perspectives. They have both suffered in the past and they are both still dealing with it. Nesta is suffering as well and we get to see more of that in the next book. I would have liked something from Azriel’s perspective. I adore him and he is so mysterious. I liked seeing Eris, if only for a moment. I have always thought that there is more to him than meets the eye. I am secretly hoping that he is a good guy that has had to disguise that fact because of his father. I always love seeing Lucien. I felt so much for him in this book. Putting yourself in his shoes is almost startling. He had already lost so much before Feyre came along and now he has lost even more. He is displaced for a second time and now his mate doesn’t want anything to do with him. It can’t be easy for him. I am glad that he had befriended Vassa and Jurien. They are also characters that I would love to see more of. I am curious to see what roles the three of them play in future books.
Overall, this was a fun little addition to the series. If you were looking for something with a substantial plot that drives this series forward, then this book is not it. If you were looking for a bit of fluff with your favorite characters then this might be it. There were definitely some nice moments in this novella. If you are passionate about these characters then I have no doubt that you will enjoy this novella, regardless of a lack of plot. This is a fun book, a nice little something extra to add to the series. I am so very excited for the rest of these precious characters to get their time in the spotlight.

This is an abbreviated book that covers just the solstice after the war, so it’s not as fulfilling as her full novels, but still a fun read. And a great kick off for her next one in the series, A Court of Silver Flames, which was outstanding!!
‘A Court of Frost and Starlight’ is book four in Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Reading previous books is required before this. Told in multiple POVs by Feyre, Rhysand, Cassian, Mor, and Nesta.
With the Hybern King and his army now defeated, the High Lords must now start to rebuild their Courts. Rhysand and Feyre as the High Lord and Lady of the Night Court their priorities for their people have them struggling to spend time together. With the Winter Solstice coming up, Feyre feels guilty to be celebrating when so many people are having a hard time after the war. But the Winter Solstice celebration is just what the Kingdom of Dreams need.
A wonderful ending for Feyre and Rhysand’s tales. These two have gone through so much in such a short while, there haven’t been perfect moments for them, but it has made them stronger none the less.
Again I am at a lost as to what to put in this review, the only thing that comes to mind is to say that you will not be disappointed when reading this book or series. I do feel like I am a little lost now that we have finished with Frysand’s books, yes I know that their story will continue on in ACOSF but as that is told in Nesta’s POV I am not really looking forward to it. I know it will have some POV’s from Cassian and this is where I feel terrible, but I am not a fan whatsoever of Nesta.
This some what of an ending was wonderfully written and to see Feyre finally being happy made the journey of reading these books filled with heartache all worth it. A quick little read to give us the readers a little inside into what out Kingdom of Dreamers are up to now that the King of Hybern is no more.
Though the war is over the clean up, alliances and rebuilding isn’t over. Be prepared to have you heart broken when getting inside certain characters heads and seeing how they are dealing with the after effects. Some are going to crush you, others will surprise you and like me a certain someone is going to irritate and frustrate you.
The only thing I will mention that I did not like was Nesta’s attitude. Again she treats Feyre like she is the evil incarnate and that everything that has gone wrong is her doing, and that the situation that she has put herself in is everyone else’s fault and not hers.
I was surprised but Elain’s character, she has done some growth since the previous books, she is as much of a naive mouse like the before. She has come into her ways and for the better.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU SJM for creating this world and especially the characters that fill the pages. I felt like I was apart of it and loved getting to know each character.
They won the war.
But the scars are still fresh.
So is peace.
Ferye and Rhysand are trying not to drown in paperwork. Cassian is trying to convince more females to train. The Illyrian camps are stirring up with malcontents.
They still found time to be happy and share their gifts with each other.
Elain is trying but she needs time when it comes to Lucian, he too needs time since he can’t figure out where he belongs now.
Nesta is getting more distant. I’m kind of annoyed that everyone is ignoring her and letting her fall deep into her void. Feyre went through the same thing when she survived Under the Mountain, I thought she would understand what her sister is going through the most. The weight loss, the empty eyes, the snapping, and the lack of will. I’m mad that they couldn’t forgive Tamlin for what he did to Feyre but they’re in a way doing the same to Nesta. They all left her to her hollowness.
Cassian wants to fight for her even when she hurt him with her words or lack of.
Mor’s story is so sad I just want her to be happy. Same for Azriel.
Seems like their stories aren’t over yet.
Loved this book and the rest of the series.
This story is heartfelt as we get points of view from Feyre, Rhysand, Cassian, Morrigan, and Nesta, hearing their innermost thoughts and feeling their emotions.
This story is more of a novella and “a day in the life” of the characters. No action but many emotions.
I just love this series and these characters. It’s been a difficult journey but the love and bonds all these characters share is just beautiful. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s to come for each of them as little nuggets have been placed throughout the story.
I enjoyed Winter Solstice and everyone coming together. My heart goes out to Nesta and her struggles. I’m anxious to see what awaits for her and Cassian.
