Book 2 of the Point Pleasant Series starts off a few months after Book 1 ends but can be read as a stand-alone (not that I recommend skipping the first). Katie Lynch takes over as the lead character and shares the limelight with brothers Ryan and Caden Flynn.
Strange supernatural happenings are taking place in Point Pleasant—dead animals, UFOs, aliens, voices in the TNT bunker, and of course, Mothman sightings. Claire tangles in a secondary plot to mix things up a bit and provide some red-herrings. The plot is complex and the pace has to be quick in order to wrap it all up and still have time for some lovely character development.
The best plot won’t survive thin characters, and Claire doesn’t fall into that trap. Main characters, as well as secondary characters, are all unique and three-dimensional. Claire carves out time to provide an emotional foundation with a bit of backstory and to dive into their relationships with each other. I particularly like books that make me feel connected to the characters and this is one of those.
The Mothman becomes more intriguing as does Caden’s character and his connection to the creature. The emotion and compassion between them is particularly riveting, and I MUST read the next book for that reason. An excellent series with polished writing. I highly recommend A Cold Tomorrow to readers of paranormal thrillers and to those who enjoy urban legends.
This is the second book of the Point Pleasant series. The first book, A Thousand Yesteryears, sets the stage, but each book stands alone. Mystery and suspense are common to both books as is skilled writing, and it is for the latter reason that each has earned my 5-Stars.
Point Pleasant is a small town with intricate plotlines and characters to match. A reader will quickly find herself on an adventure that involves unfamiliar phenomena that gets the heart beating fast and the mind swirling with possibilities. That said, the paranormal events are as disconcerting as they are believable. Under Mae Clair’s able pen, the supernatural and unnatural become part of one’s life. Adding to the cohesiveness of the story is the romance between the two lead characters. Their real affection is both endearing and comfortable.
I’m very much looking forward to Book 3.
I was very excited to read the second book in the Point Pleasant series, and found I enjoyed “A Cold Tomorrow” as much as “A Thousand Yesteryears”. Ms. Clair continues with characters from the first book, along with UFOs, animal mutilations, mysterious drawings, men in black, an ex-boyfriend, and the Mothman. There was a budding romance between Ryan and Katie, but it’s the mystery and suspense that made it hard for me to put the book down. I loved the little details of the town, characters, and the Mothman legend that drew me into “their” story. This book is well-written with every element I enjoy in a fiction including: the paranormal, mystery, a bit of romance, and suspense. I’ll be diving right into the final book “A Desolate Hour”. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next! I highly recommend this book and series.
In this sequel to the first book of the Point Pleasant Series, A Thousand Yesteryears, Mae Clair takes us on a fast-paced adventure.
Katie Lynch stops to help a motorist in trouble and gets more than she bargained for. Mysteries began unfolding all around. A coded message, a policeman that vanishes into thin air and unexplained phenomena galore set the stage for A Cold Tomorrow .
We met the famous mythical creature, The Mothman, in the first book of the series. But, it is becoming almost as much of a character in these books as are the people. Mae gave us a glimpse into the creature’s mind when it is wounded and Caden is able to communicate with him. All the characters in this story captured me. The two brothers, Ryan and Caden, both in law enforcement – rugged and good looking, Katie Lynch, a single mom raising a son, Eve Parrish, owner of the famed historic hotel, Sarah who loves digging around in archived historical records, and even Katie’s renegade mom who really comes to life and redeems herself in this novel.
Mae does an exquisite job of weaving this story with lots of unexpected and unpredictable twists and turns. Giving the reader a deeper look into Indrid Cold and Evening Lach, and their connection to the Mothman, only adds another dimension to this story. If you like a great mystery with a lot of adventure and a little romance thrown in, you’ll love both of Mae Clair’s books in the Point Pleasant series. Looking forward to the third book!
This is the follow up to A Thousand Yesteryears. It’s one of the few sequels that really can stand alone. I gave the first book five stars, and I would give this one six if it were possible.
All of the characters you loved from the first book are back, and the tapestry of events is larger and tighter than the first book. Life moved on from the first book, and I like the way the author demonstrates that with relationships among the various characters. That doesn’t mean life got more predictable or relaxing, far from it.
I don’t believe in revealing plot in reviews, but fans of A Thousand Yesteryears are in for a treat. If you’re starting here, you’ll be buying Yesteryears very soon. Mae Clair has created a wonderful setting full of intrigue and mystery. I know I’m returning for the finale as soon as she can publish it. Do yourself a favor and read these stories.
I was a lucky recipient of an advanced reading copy of this book.
I could tell that it was a series. I had not read the 1st book and there were some references that were written with the assumption that you read the previous book. There were a lot of references to the TNT. I did not know what that was until halfway through the book. The other weird part is that there was not main character. 1st I thought it was the girl, then maybe her boyfriend, then it was her boyfriends brother. Maybe it was the Mothman. It was good enough to finish but don’t know if I would continue in the series. I rarely like series anyway.
