Lazarus County needs a Sheriff. There are Indian tribes and bandits throughout New Mexico and the people of Gilgamesh have gone on far too long without a lawman. The town folk unanimously vote for John Wilkins, the stage coach driver, but he thinks his soldiering days are long past. Nonetheless, he is beloved by the people of Gilgamesh, including the Kimball family who are just there for a spell … spell while the father, James, works on the railroad. Harriet Kimball finds herself enchanted by Gilgamesh and begins to think of the place as home, going so far as to put out an ad for marriage in the newspaper. She is almost as surprised by John Wilkins’ reply as he was.
John’s passion for Harriet reawakens his old self and before he knows he’s reconsidering the offer from the town and the solitary, lonely future that he’d accepted.

The Sheriff Needs a Bride
Lazarus County Mail Order Brides, Book 4
By: Amber Seraph
Narrated by: Charley Ongel
I love a short, sweet romance. It clears my head and this series is perfect for that. This fourth story is getting Gilgamesh a sheriff. At least it is hoping to. Things are out of hand and some semblance of the law needs to be instilled. Requesting John, the stagecoach driver, to become the sheriff has been set forth, but he is uncertain that is his path. Harriett, it getting ready to move again with her father and brother. Her brother, Milt, is a little slower than others his age, and she has found Gilgamesh to be a good fit for him, as well as John is a good influence for him. Now these two are up in the air with their futures. Will they once again collide? I loved this for a couple of reasons. It brings out some realistic circumstances of the old west. Milt is a special boy and things were not so tolerant in the old west. It has a strong female lead, taking control of her own destiny. And Milt is a character that you can’t help but love. It’s heartwarming and the perfect listen for a Saturday walk.
Charley Ongel continues her narration of this series. I enjoy her performances so much, as she has a wide variety of voices, and each one is so specific to the character, you know exactly who is talking. She is also a great storyteller, understanding the plot and time period so well that it flows and is easy to listen to. Love her voice.

Enjoyed this new book in the series. In fact, I really enjoyed all of this series, and all Amber’s books.
I recommend this book to all who like a sweet western book.
Story line was interesting an no added non-sense just to add more pages to the book. However I did wish it was longer. I really liked Mitt. Having a son like him, I was glad to see the interest portrayed to him by the Sheriff.

A sweet story about 2 of the kids that belong to the railroad workers that are living outside Gilgamesh. The residents of the town and the farmers and ranchers do not appreciate having their personal belongings stolen and blame it on the railroad people.
Harriett was 22 and had raised her brother Milt since he was born 13 years ago. She never had time to grow up and enjoy life but was responsible for caring for Milt and taking care of the needs of the family including her father. They lived in tents that were small but Harriett made do. They were constantly moving from town to town to work on the railroad.
John was the stage coach driver and had been a soldier for several years. When the town decided they need a sheriff they suggest John. He said he didn’t want the job as he was not ready to settle down. He had made friends with Milt and allowed him to help unload the luggage. But when John met his sister Harriett and spent some time with her hunting Milt, John decided he had found something that made him want to settle down finally. But before he is able to meet Milt and Harriett on the stage coach John will first have to find the stage coach and who attacked it.

This is the fourth book in the Lazarus County Mail Order series I found it to be a well-written book. John Wilkins, the stagecoach driver is asked to become the new lawman of Gilgamesh. Harriet Kimball puts an ad out for marriage in the newspaper and gets a surprise when John answers it. Watching these two come together made for a charming story. I found this book to be a very enjoyable and entertaining read with the well written storyline and very likeable and believable characters! As I turned each page I felt like John and Harriett jumped from the pages and pulled me right into their story as it unfolded!
This is the 4th book in the series of a clean romance novellas that your young daughters could read. Characters are wholesome and these books interconnect, but can stand alone. Characters get their HEA after they overcome their challenges

This barely touched on the townspeople except for the point when they nominate John for sheriff. Instead, it focused on John and Harriet. I don’t think either realized they were in love until near the end, but, of course, there was a bit of an adventure first.
It was all well done and I’m happy with the way this series is unfolding.

I love the series of Lazarus County Mail Order Brides! John was a stage coach driver that loved being out on the road, but the town of Gilgamesh needed a sheriff and they wanted John for the job. Harriet is a young woman with a sweet younger brother to take care of and they lived with their dad that worked for the rail road so they moved a lot. I recommend you read this story, it is fun, loving, and a little suspense added in, great read!
