THE BOOK BEHIND THE SECOND SEASON OF GAME OF THRONES, AN ORIGINAL SERIES NOW ON HBO.A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE: BOOK TWO In this thrilling sequel to A Game of Thrones, George R. R. Martin has created a work of unsurpassed vision, power, and imagination. A Clash of Kings transports us to a world of revelry and revenge, wizardry and warfare unlike any we have ever experienced. A comet the color of … have ever experienced.
A comet the color of blood and flame cuts across the sky. And from the ancient citadel of Dragonstone to the forbidding shores of Winterfell, chaos reigns. Six factions struggle for control of a divided land and the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms, preparing to stake their claims through tempest, turmoil, and war. It is a tale in which brother plots against brother and the dead rise to walk in the night. Here a princess masquerades as an orphan boy; a knight of the mind prepares a poison for a treacherous sorceress; and wild men descend from the Mountains of the Moon to ravage the countryside. Against a backdrop of incest and fratricide, alchemy and murder, victory may go to the men and women possessed of the coldest steel . . . and the coldest hearts. For when kings clash, the whole land trembles.

My current read. Loving this series!
While I didn’t think any of the books in this series could best A Game of Thrones, I was blown away by this one. So well-written and so captivating that I couldn’t put it down.
A Clash of Kings was slightly easier to get through than the first in the series, I think, because I was more familiar with the characters and wasn’t having to backtrack …
Wonderfully written!
This is only book in my life that as soon as I finished I reread. Could not believe what had transpired.
The King is dead and chaos reigns. Sitting on the Iron Throne is the vicious boy-king Joffrey, ruled over by his ambitious, ruthless, amoral and disquietingly beautiful mother Queen Cersei. But many do not accept the boy-kings rule, and six other rulers rise to claim their place, including the Stark heir Robb.
This volume opens with the flight of …
This is the 2nd of an unfinished series of books by the author. This is the kind of book I love best, it is huge and sprawling, filled with diverse, well-developed characters, and multiple, sometimes overlapping story lines. The story is placed in a fictional landscape, and uses some fictional vocabulary, but in context of the first book, it is …
This definitely felt to me like the second book in an epic series. Book one sets the stage, introduces the cast of characters and lets you spend time with them, getting to know them, and leaves you wanting to know how their stories will go. Book two takes everything you know on the stage and rearranges it, up-ending it, tearing it down in some …
You can’t read just one! Awesome story telling at its very best!
The second installment in A Song of Ice and Fire series. After some major character deaths in book one, this book steers into uncharted territory for the heroes and begins its dark turn into war. This book introduces a bunch of new characters you will hate as much as you love. It’s much like the series, but if you desire a richer experience, read …
This is book two in the Game of Thrones series. At this point, King Joffrey is the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. Because he is still a boy, his mother remains Queen Regent. Joffrey remains cruel and is holding Sansa hostage at King’s Landing. Now that Sansa’s traitor father is dead, Joffrey and his mother refuse to let her go home. Sansa’s …
Wish I would not have waited so long to continue reading the series. So many characters I got confused. There is so much political machinations going on, that I have become bored with the brutal, crude, selfish and egotistical boy kings. Their emotions and impulses allow them to make mistakes that create some dangerous enemies that will come back …
I loved every minute of this book!
I wish he would finish the series.
The entire set is worth reading but I found this second volume to be more of a connector between 1st and 3rd volumes. The third was the best so far. Now if we could only get Martin to finish… He’s the 21st century version of Jean Auel’s clan of cave bear set!
Although I enjoyed Game of Thrones, I have read the 5 books available, I will probably not read any more. Martin has neglected his readers for too long. I am not sure he really knows how to sum up the many story lines.
Plotless, and unending.
Excellent. Great story line. Comedy, tragedy, action all in one
The best novel of its genre I’ve ever read. Characters, plots and sub-plots were amazing. Don’t know how on earth Martin kept track while he was writing. Definitely worth the time it takes to read it.
Should be read in series order. The whole Ice and Fire saga is amazing. Read the whole series annually and get more out of it every time.
