When her mother gifts her a psychic reading on her 26th birthday, Skylar’s jaded outlook has her bored before she even steps inside. Skylar O’Conner is a special events coordinator of a non-profit company. She has been unhappy with her current position status, even if she does not have any work problems. After a peculiar visit to her mother’s psychic, Aubrey told Skylar that she was at a “crossroads” and had to decide what she wants to do to take control of it. Her “reading” gave a lot of vague details on how to do this. But Skylar leaped and decided that it was “time.” Good thing, too, because that is how she ended up meeting Carter in the process.
Carter Montgomery is a widower and a single parent to a lovely three-year-old daughter, Everly. He works in the construction business and tries his best to balance being an owner and a parent. His mother helps him out with Everly as he also copes with the loss of his wife.
Skylar and Carter narrate the book from each of their perspectives. The story’s pace is smooth and easy. Their chance meeting was a cute one and was a reverse Cinderella story that tugged my heart. It all turned into a comedy when they bumped into each other the second time around while in preparation for a “would-be’ third meeting had me laughing my head off. I did not see that “list” coming.
I love how easy and relatable the characters are. They have their issues, but both characters are realistic, especially with a child.
It talks all about finding love, second chances, and keeping positive all rolled into a feel-good Christmas book. Of course, there is the expected conflict, all based on misunderstanding and “not-getting-the-whole picture,” which surprised me. Because I thought Carter was a mature man, but with so many unresolved issues in the past, he still has a bit of a way to go.
I appreciated seeing how Skylar left to believe in herself with her mom and Aubrey’s guidance. Even though things hurt at first, Skylar still was patient enough to thread through the pain of loss and come out a better person. She did trust herself, and that is what I wanted to point out to readers – she believed and “claimed it,” then things started to look up for her!
A Cinderella Story is one of the easiest and “go-with-the-flow” reads as of date. I enjoyed the balance between the funny, snickering moments to the hurtful, misunderstanding parts offered in the book. It is a great read to put everyone in the season of giving, love, and healing.
I love this spin Cinderella! EK Woodcock did an amazing job! I absolutely adored everything about this book! Five Stars!
What a debut for E.K. Woodcock! She took a classic fairytale and gave it a modern day retelling. Instead of a glass slip it’s a purple rain boot that brings Skylar to his princess, Everly. And well a purple rain boot made me love her right away. A Cinderella Story is a story about two people wary of love who find love in each other. A Cinderella Story is a cute, sweet story about how life test us and true love always wins. Skylar and Everly are faced with several test in their relationship, however they come out on top and that’s all that matters.
A Cinderella Story is the fantastic, sweet, enchanting debut novel from E.K. Woodcock. She took this amazing classic fairytale we all love and made her own. I think with these retellings the key is for the author to make it their own, and Woodcock did that. I can’t wait to see what she brings us next.
The good character and storyline development kept me totally enthralled as each and every page was turned until the very end!
This is a modern twist on the fairy tale Cinderella. When Skylar finds a small sparkly purple rain boot laying next to a truck at the mall, she makes the decision to find the child who’s missing her shoe. Little does she know that the little girls father is like sex on a stick. Carter, father to Everly, is glad when Everly’s rain boot is returned to her, but now he can’t get the image of the beauty who returned it out of his mind. After their chance encounter, Everly has taken to calling the mysterious woman, Fairy Godmother. It seems fitting though, since they had that whole Cinderella moment when she placed the missing rain boot on his daughter foot.
What a surprise when they run into each other again. This time at the local coffee house. Now that Carter knows where she hangs out, he talks his work crew into taking their break there again so that he hopes to run into her.
This is a charming story with a twist. I hadn’t remembered the blurb when I started reading this story for review, it had been awhile since I’d signed up to review it, so when the twist came, I was a little taken aback. The story was proceeding along nicely, in my opinion, when seemingly out of the blue a monkey wrench was thrown into the mix. I really didn’t think the story needed the twist, and I was glad when it got all sorted out at by the end. This is a sweet HEA with little heat, which is a nice chance for me. I can’t wait to read more from this author and see where her writing takes her.
*I received an ARC of this story and this is my honest and voluntary review
4.5 Stars
I really enjoyed this one. Of course this book had me at single dad, but the whole blurb had me sold. It just felt like it was going to be a romantic book with a feel good vibe to it. I was proven right. This book is light and fun, but it also packs in the emotion and feels. My heart breaks for Carter and Everly. Their backstory is a sad one, but you can feel the love. Everly is so adorable. She’s three going on 30. The end of this book made my heart so happy. Carter’s grand gesture was so perfect. Plus this book has a Christmas scene and for this Christmas loving reader it was the perfect touch. I would definitely recommend this book. This is the debut book for this author and I can already tell you I’m looking forward to more of her work.
What a fairytale this book was, i just loved it. The way Skylar and Carter found each other is really cute and just like cinderella. I think this is just the book to read at Christmas in a comfy seat by the fireplace with some hot chocolate. And little Everly is just to cute for words, her cuteness just jumps of the paper (if i wasn’t reading an e-book ).
This book has it all, the world building was just perfect. You knew exactly where the characters were in their lives and how they felt. The reader was a lovely plus in the book and it almost made me think to get a reading myself or try to lay the cards myself.
I hope she rewrites some other fairytales like this, I would love to read them. Just like the references to Beauty and the Beast. The wish for “The Perfect Draft” here in my town is big, maybe an idea for later .
I loved the way the other portrayed this Cinderella take. I loved all of the characters, especially the sweet and sassy three year old Everly. Carter and Skylar are perfect for one another. Cinderella Skylar, Prince Charming Carter and Princess Everly take us on a beautiful and unforgettable journey of the unexpected, love, moving on and family.
This is one romance you don’t want to miss!
A Cinderella Story is E.K. Woodcock’s debut novel and she did an amazing job! This is a sweet retelling of the classic Cinderella that includes a hot single dad and an adorable three-year-old.
Everly sure kept me on my toes with her antics and her cuteness.
Loved the relationship between Carter and Skylar along with little Everly. It warmed my heart.
If you’re looking for a clean, sweet romance, I recommend giving A Cinderella Story a try.

A Cinderella Story
By: E.K. Woodcock
REVIEW
The classic story of Cinderella is modernized and given a little twist in E. K. Woodcock’s A Cinderella Story. As retellings go, this one is aptly reminiscent of the original with its charm and magical feel. Skylar is skeptical about magical and mystical things, but the gift of a psychic reading for her 26th birthday just might change that. When Skylar finds a little purple rain boot at the mall, she decides to follow the psychic’s advice. Turns out, said rainboot belongs to Everly, whose father is Carter, a widow with a heart so broken it may never heal. When Carter meets Skylar, however, he feels a little spark akin to something like life, and if the rainboot fits (it does) maybe this is a sign. Two people wary of love find themselves in a place of trust and faith and taking a leap into the unknown because anything is possible. Still, the universe constantly tests us all, and as the story progresses, the clear path to true love becomes murky. Will Skylar, Carter and Everly become a family, or was this not meant for them? This story is so cute and sweet. The characters are wonderful, and I felt as though we were friends. The twist in this retelling gives it a little something extra sparkly. I kept my fingers crossed that all would be well! This story is truly a charming light read that will lift your spirits, so give it a try today.
