What if one morning you look in the mirror and no longer recognize the person looking back? When Leelo can no longer identify herself by the roles that once defined her, it’s both terrifying and liberating. Oh, she feels the loss, the grief, and then the anger, but when she inherits property up north, she jumps at the promise of freedom and independence. Yet not everyone in her new community is … new community is what they seem, starting with the surly mountain man down the road.
As owner of the local fishing lodge, Roar is content with his everyday life. And the older he gets, the less he appreciates change. So when a blue-haired, tattooed ‘city girl’ moves into the old motel, shaking up his daily routine, he’s none too pleased.
Still, something about the woman’s easy smile and almost reckless grit has him step up as her keeper.

This audiobook was everything I haven’t known I was searching for. First of all the plot was amazing, secondly, it was about middle-aged characters closer to my age, and thirdly, it was brilliantly narrated by Anneliese Rennie and Austin Barringer. This was my very first book by Freya Barker, and also both narrators were unicorns to me. All in all, I can say the book was excellent. If you take a chance and listen to it, you will discover that this story has everything you wish in a great story. Romance, crime, and a second chance with HEA. After Leelo´s nasty divorce she tries to find herself again because her old self was left somewhere back on the road. When her uncle Sam dies and she has inherited his motel maybe it’s time for a change of view and to put the roots somewhere, where she can start a new stage of her life. The motel is in a very poor state and with not much in her bank account, she has to do the repairs on her own. DIY is great but could be dangerous especially in the middle of a storm when she happens to be stuck on the roof while trying to cover the roof damage. What she hasn’t counted on was a grumpy neighbor with a heart of gold, who decides to help her do some of the repairs just for the material costs. Roar is the owner of the neighbor lodge who happens to be very attracted to Leelo since he has laid his eyes on her. Though the attraction is mutual they both are careful with their feelings. With more fixes on the property there happen to be a lot of unfortunate pranks and damages which keep on piling up. One step forward and five steps back. And on top of that one day, a property developer representative arrives and tries to make an offer on the land. But Leelo is not willing to sell. But maybe those weren’t just unfortunate circumstances, were they?
