Lady Eliza Sumner is on a mission. After losing her family, her fiance, and her faith, the disappearance of her fortune is the last straw. Now, masquerading as Miss Eliza Sumner, governess-at-large, she’s determined to find the man who ran off with her fortune, reclaim the money, and head straight back to London.
Much to Mr. Hamilton Beckett’s chagrin, all the eyes of New York society–all the … society–all the female ones, at least–are on him. Unfortunately for all the matchmaking mothers and eligible daughters, he has no plans to marry again, especially with his hands full keeping his business afloat and raising his two children alone.
When Eliza’s hapless attempts to regain her fortune put her right in Hamilton’s path, sparks instantly begin to fly. The discovery of a common nemesis causes them to join forces, but with all their plans falling by the wayside and their enemies getting the better of them, it will take a riot of complications for Hamilton and Eliza to realize that God just might have had a better plan in mind all along.
“Set in New York City circa 1880, Turano’s historical romance has witty dialogue, a spunky heroine, a bounty of humor, and a fast-paced plot. There are wonderful secondary characters, too, including an ankle-biting boy, a relentlessly matchmaking mother, and a full cast of despicable villains. A Change of Fortune will make a delightful addition to any library.” —Booklist (starred review)
“Turano’s charming story of losing and gaining both wealth and love in 1880s New York City will certainly please fans of witty and classic romance stories.”–RT Book Review

Entertaining book with lots of twists and turns. A good light easy to read book.
I just read this book not long ago but I’m ready to read it again!! I loved Eliza and Hamilton and their funny adventures. And all the other characters! I can’t wait to see what Jen Turano has coming in the future!!
This is a nice story. I liked the characters – especially the children. I am glad I read it, even though I felt it was a little too long.
A fun read.
Perfectly crafted, craftily plotted, and casted to perfection!!
So many elements come together to keep the reader tuning pages. Wonderful characters and true surprises around the bend. Laugh out loud and hold your breath all in the same book, sometimes the same page. I loved it and can’t wait to read the next one!
Loved it and highly recommend! Great characters, sweet romance, lots of humor, and a bit of intrigue!
I love this book! The banter between the characters is quite amusing at times. It is a well written book. I couldn’t put it down.
Her books are always a fun read!
I sometimes thought the main character was weak and showed no initiative.
Loved this book! The dialog between characters was witty and so much fun to read! Could not put this book down. It’s like Georgette Heyer but just more fast-paced!
Not as funny as Gentleman of Her Dreams
Serious but with humor and romance. Loved it.
I couldn’t put the book down! It was very enjoyable and Jen has a real talent for writing. Well done! It is well worth adding this author to your collection.
Rating: G rated love scenes, no language.
Jen Turano’s books are always a lot of fun to read. Her characters are people you want to spend time with and, occasionally, get into trouble with.
It was one of her better stories. The main character acted like a lady for the most part. The story was fun.
