Review:
The writing style flows smoothly and defines the characters very clearly by their actions and words. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book, I felt like I was right there in Foxtail Lake, watching all of the action taking place. The mystery is well plotted and had enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider.
The characters are well developed and well rounded. I love the relationship between Callie and her Great Aunt Gracie. You can tell how much they love each other and how close they are. And her and Cass are getting along well and developing a strong relationship. I enjoyed the Cupid aspect of the book, that added an extra layer, in my opinion. And I love all the animals that appear in this book.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. It has everything that you would want in a cozy.
I thoroughly enjoyed third book of the series.
Callie is working on a story for the mysterious Ms. Cupid who seems to have a perfect record for matching couples. When she shows up to interview one happy couple she instead finds a fire with a dead body.
As with all Ms. Daley’s book, I love the characters, they are real and easy to like. The mystery was good and kept me guessing.
I will continue on with this series.

I enjoyed the characters and the plot entertaining reading
In this third book of the series Callie is excited about becoming a full time reporter for the paper and her first assignment can’t come soon enough. She is tasked with talking to a local matchmaker who seems to enjoy playing Cupid to the single people of Foxtail Lake. She decides to start with interviewing some of the successes that have come from Cupid matchmaking. When her first interview turns out to be the victim of murder her story turns from love to death. Callie can’t give up such a good story so she is happy to help Detective Wylander in his investigation. When secret upon secret comes to light it makes it hard to figure out just who might have wanted to kill the victim. Follow along as they team up and look into clients, personal relationships, and all those secrets coming to light. Will they be able to put the pieces together and find a killer or will someone get away with murder.
The Case of the Cupid Caper is book three in the Cat in the Attic Mystery series. As always, I was hooked from the start. This was an excellent story, and I highly recommend the series.
The Case of the Cupid Caper is the third book in the fantastic A Cat in the Attic cozy mystery series by Kathi Daley. In this story, Callie is busy writing her Valentine’s Day columns and covering other events for the Foxtail News, discovering the identity of Ms. Cupid, volunteering at an animal shelter, giving piano lessons to a local girl, planning for the Sweetheart Dance, and helping Cass, her friend and police detective, solve two murders that may or may not be related.
This book is filled with elements of a cozy mystery including suspense, romance, humor, love, friends and family, and a sense of community. As always, Ms. Daley’s writing flows smoothly, and her setting and relatable characters make for an extremely enjoyable read. The ending of this book makes me really excited about reading the next one!
An excellent series both for those who enjoy investigating WHO IS as well as WHO DID.
Callie has impressed her newspaper boss with her last investigative tasks. Now she has a column and is writing features related to holidays. Someone is matchmaking and seems to have super powers. Unfortunately for Callie, one of those couples goes up in smoke and her best friend, Detective Cass is called upon for his own investigation. Fortunately for her, Cass encourages her to tag along and they share discoveries and information.
Plenty of animals to show love comes in all shapes and sizes.
This is a wonderful character driven series without graphic content.
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and Calliope Rose, aka Callie, is working on a story for the local newspaper about the mysterious Ms. Cupid. Through an internet survey, that makes no sense at all, Ms. Cupid is matching couples. A date is set and that is when each couple meets. But who is this Ms. Cupid and how is she or he completing this? When Callie has an interview scheduled with one of the couples, a fire and death occurs of one from the couple. The reporter in Callie wants to investigate with Cass, the Police Chief, as to what happened. We are privileged to see the relationship between Callie and Cass develop a little more.
Callie’s assignment to cover the Valentine’s Dance is also part of this story. It is fun to see the history of this dance and also the results from Ms. Cupid’s matches. I thoroughly enjoy this series and love to see the development of the characters in each book.
Book 3 in the Cat in the Attic series brings us another intriguing mystery and theme with lots of twist & turns and complications along the way. Well written with caring and compassionate characters and a fascinating theme kept me totally immersed from start to finish.
The Case Of The Cupid Caper ( Cat In The Attic -Book #3 )
The Case Of The cupid Caper is book three in the series Cat In The Attic. Enjoyed the story and the characters, both are well written and well developed. A mystery of Ms Cupid who matches single peoples up . Who is she and how does she do it? Fires, deaths, and a matchmaker. Is any of these related. Hooked from the start and did not want to put it down.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Callie is working on a series of articles on the mysterious Ms Cupid who has been very successfully matching up numerous couples in Foxtail Lake.
While interviewing several of the couples, Callie faces a whole new mystery when the male half of one couple ends up dead just as she arrives to interview him and his girlfriend.
Cass and Callie are both wracking their brains to figure it out, but it just gets more complicated the deeper in they delve.
Callie is also finally starting to get some more meaty assignments form her boss now that she has shown him how good of a reporter she is, so her plate is about as full as it can get.
Great mystery with lots of sweet romance thrown in to make the perfect Valentine’s Day book.
The Case of the Cupid Caper is the third book in Kathi Daley’s A Cat in the Attic Mystery series. The storyline flows smoothly, and the three-dimensional characters are well-developed and affable in this awesome and delightful series. The storyline is well-plotted and interesting, and there are lots of twists and red herrings to keep readers engaged and guessing. Once again, Ms. Daley has provided readers with a clean, fun read, with caring and compassionate characters, and an intriguing mystery. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading well-crafted cozy mysteries.
After an accident shattered Calliope “Callie” Rose Collins career as a concert pianist, she returned to Foxtail Lake, which is nestled in the Colorado Rockies, and is living with her great-aunt, Gracie, in Hollister House. When Callie lost her parents as a young child, Gracie took her in and raised her. Callie finds that the attic, her safe haven where she spent hours as a child, still offers her solace, and she enjoys spending time up there with Gracie’s cat, Alastair. She’s reconnected with her childhood friend, Officer Cass Wylander, volunteers at the Foxtail Lake Animal Shelter, befriended Paisley Holloway, a young girl who recently lost her mother, and has started a new career as a columnist for the local newspaper. Callie has multiple assignments, one of which is a series involving the mystery surrounding a matchmaker known only as Ms. Cupid, who has a phenomenal success rate. Unfortunately, Callie’s assignment turns into one of two murder investigations for Cass.
The Case of the Cupid Caper earns 5/5 Matching Hearts…Engaging Drama!
For the next few articles in Calliope Collins’s Callie Considers weekly column, she’ll explore a new matchmaking service, dubbed Ms. Cupid, and interview matched couples to uncover an explanation for their impressive success rate. Callie’s editor suggests she sign up for the service to get an insider’s perspective, but instead they agree to have the newspaper’s receptionist act as guinea pig. But the interview Callie planned with one success story couple doesn’t start out perfectly, unless it’s a perfect murder you’re hoping for! Callie again joins friend Detective Wylander on the investigation; together they see connections with clients, criminals, personal relationships, and business deals, and the secrets revealed make it difficult to pin down any real suspect and motive. It just got complicated!
Kathi Daley delivered the “perfect” Valentine cozy! The clever drama begins with an innocent set up…dating, but then a curious murder makes this book quite a page-turner with several possible suspects to consider. As is part of Kathi’s signature style, she weaves into the story daily life: other news reports, mentoring the young next door neighbor, the Sweetheart Ball, shifts at the animal shelter, and friends struggling with illnesses. Her writing style uses expressive language and dialogue that is informative and illustrates tone and personalities well. The investigative techniques are often talking, sharing, and theorizing, some of this takes place off the page. In Kathi Daley’s world the police are often friends and family, so there is cooperation and partnerships, not circumventing their authority. Action-packed? Well, I like this series for its realism. The drama is well-developed through clues discovered from conversation and detective sources, sometimes another crime occurs, like here, and the ending always includes some kind of perilous moment. Callie is realistic, Cass is a good cop, and the residents of Foxtail Lake seem varied and well-defined that readers may see their own family and friends in them. Even though food and dining are referred to, there are no recipes in this series. “She’d shown me the recipe for an easy egg and sausage pie with mushrooms and pepper jack cheese…” I love it, too. Just saying..
I received an ARC of this book and am leaving an honest review. Calliope Rose Collins (Callie) has returned home to Foxtail Lake after an accident derailed her music career. She’s settling into her new life and is enjoying her new job as a reporter for the local paper. Callie’s working on a series of articles about a local matchmaker, Ms Cupid, who has phenomenal success. She’s meeting up with a matched couple, Dale and Lissa, at Dale’s home only to find it engulfed in flames when she arrives. It’s determined that the man was shot first and as Callie helps her friend and police officer, Cass, with the investigation, secrets are revealed. Later, when the mayor is killed in the same manner, Cass must determine if the same person is responsible as more secrets come to life.
I really enjoyed this book and the series is fun. Kathi captures the essence of small town life and its residents. The book’s well-written with well-rounded characters and I was captured from the beginning. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.
