It’s 1929, and Ticky Maltravers is the toast of London high society, adored by everyone—or so it seems, until somebody poisons him over dinner. Now it turns out that numerous people with secrets to hide had every reason to wish him dead. But which of them murdered him? For Freddy Pilkington-Soames, newspaper reporter and man-about-town, the question hits a little too close to home, thanks to an … an unfortunate drunken encounter with Ticky’s corpse which he’d much rather the police didn’t find out about—and thanks also to his exasperating mother Cynthia’s seeming determination to get herself arrested by tampering with the evidence. But a pretty girl with big blue eyes is demanding his help in solving the mystery, so what can he do but agree? Now all he has to do is hide the wrong clues, find the right ones, and unmask the murderer before the police discover what’s really been going on. That ought to be easy enough. If only people didn’t keep getting killed…

Freddy Pilkington-Soames has a hilarious and maddening encounter with his dotty mother in this cozy mystery taking place in London in the 1920s, and that’s just the beginning of his adventures. A fun read.
Freddy, a newspaper reporter, gets involved in 2 murders while attending a birthday party. A must read. I couldn’t stop till I found out who did it!
I enjoyed this book. I didn’t feel as if I was entrenched in it which was good. It was entertaining and unpredictable. A fun light read.
How do i start reading this free book
Easy read liked it
Typical idiotic English upper classes — “They won’t come after me!” It was an interesting whodunit. Recommend it for light reading, though it did get a little intense at one point.
Highly entertaining. Very easy read with colorful characters. Recommend highly
Entertaining, Witty historical mystery.
Good, old-fashioned mystery. Loved Freddy.
Fun Summer Beach book.
Not my favorite book
Many twist and turns made this an enjoyable book. Lite easy read.
It was disappointing
I still don’t know how I feel about this book, and I finished reading it. Parts of this story are really far fetched. It really doesn’t flow well but it held my interest enough to make me want to solve the crime and figure out who did it
A fun little Engish murder mystery.
Great series. I am hooked.
This is a spin off from the Angela Marchmont series where Freddy Pilkington-Soames was introduced. He’s a likeable character who unwittingly gets involved in ridiculous scrapes and murders.
Reminiscent of the old time who done it’s like The Thin Man and Topper. Totally enjoyable
Fun read.
Lots of suspects, each a new character. A delightful parlor mystery, really.
Fun, light read?
