I’m a big fan of Melanie Cellier’s books. I love the new twist she puts on fairy tales; each one is an adventure with endearing characters! There is suspense, drama, and a bit of romance in each book.
I especially enjoyed A Captive of Wing and Feather. I loved the main characters and their interactions with those around them.
An amazing story!
I loved the creativity of this story! As I was reading, I was noticing how wonderfully the tale was woven and enjoying every word.
Princess Adelaide, the sister of King Dominic from A Tale of Beauty and the Beast, who had been spirited away when she was just thirteen by her godmother when their parents died, was under an enchantment which caused her to lose her voice during the day and be bound to the enchanted lake of swans at night. Her days were spent silently as she served at The Haven – when she attempted to speak, she bugled like a swan instead. In fact, the swans who lived at her lake could understand her.
Addie wore her nobility with kindness and humility. Though she would have sacrificed herself for the women she served, she feared trusting anyone fully with her heart.
Crown Prince Gabriel had been searching for Addie for quite some time and despite her best efforts to disguise herself, he couldn’t help but recognize his childhood friend. This dashing and brave prince was determined to help release her from her prison, despite how enchanting it appeared. I have to say, Gabe was quite charming. I loved his resolve to help Addie in whatever way he could. His valor knew no limits.
A Captive of Wing and Feather was full of intrigue and twists. Just when I thought they had broken the spell or were finally going to succeed, something else would happen that was completely unexpected! I was quite caught up in the story and confess that at one point while I was reading, my husband asked me a question and I wondered just how I was supposed to communicate my answer to him. It took me a moment to realize that my voice wasn’t the one that was missing.
Melanie Cellier’s stories are always so enjoyable! If you enjoy fantasy, be sure to read not only this book but the entire Four Kingdoms and the Beyond the Four Kingdoms series.

The story of someone learning to trust and forgive. Beautiful.
Let me just take a second to gush about how ridiculously good these books are!
This author is so fantastic. There are few who can develop a plot so well. The pacing is always right on, the characters are well-developed and relatable, the character arches are phenomenal, the plot lines keep you on the edge of your seat, and the loose ends are always tied up… Even more than you are expecting sometimes. The books are always linked together beautifully and each ending always leaves you wanting more.
That being said, where the heck is the next book!? I’m dying over here! I’ve been waiting to meet Teddy’s ocean girl since book one in this spinoff series.
Anyway, end of tangent now. Let’s talk about this book in particular. I absolutely loved this story. I think this is even my favorite so far. I love that we finally get to find out what happened to the strong-willed missing young princess from Palinar. I had been wondering for several stories now.
This one was a unique take on Swan Lake because the princess didn’t actually turn into a swan, she could only speak the language of the swans. And the irony was that she could only speak to swans during the day, which was when she was able to leave Swan Lake. But at night, she always had to return to the lake, but she would get her human voice back… And she couldn’t speak to the swans, who were her only companions there. So all her new loved ones thought she was mute.
I also like the fact that she actually wanted to be missing. She was a little bitter and untrusting. And rightfully so. So this is a cool story about bringing her tempestuous personality full circle.
All in all, this was a magnificent story. I had been waiting for it all year. I wish I’d known it came out in September! I didn’t get it until weeks later. I will be checking daily for the next book now.
