Great start to the new Convenient Arrangements Regency romance series by gifted author Rose Pearson with complex characters and a wonderful story that kept me entertained and intrigued from start to finish. I really liked the dynamic and undeniable chemistry between Lord Pendleton who inherits the title of Marquess of Leicestershire when his brother dies and Lady Augusta, daughter of the Earl of Elmsworth. If you like well-crafted, tender and sweet Regency romance, don’t miss “A Broken Bethrothal.” I received an advance reader copy of this book from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Broken Betrothal- Convenient Arrangements Book 1” by Rose Pearson is a tale of one Lady Augusta is promised to Lord Leicestershire by her father…the Earl of Elmsworth’s edit….but the Marquess of Leicestershire …Stephen Pendleton….has other things on his mind other than his impending nuptials. And
Lady Augusta…for her part…having been raised in a proper Regency household …shouldn’t even expect a “Love Match”….as few in her acquaintance have ever achieved such…it just isn’t done….or is it?!? After all…the marriage contracts ARE signed and binding ….regardless of what HE says …and maintaining one’s position in polite society is by far preferable than one’s own happiness …but Lady Augusta flat REFUSES to play the game THAT way…she is determined to have a future filled to the brim with bliss …and she is quite willing to pay the devil’s own due to save both their reputations and be victorious in a gamble played for Love. Can she do it?!? Read and see! Much enjoyed and Highly Recommended. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Copy of this book.

Lady Augusta and Lord Leicestershire are both flawed characters. And because of that, it made them more human to me. They do not like each other. They do not like the idea of getting together against their will. But they grow to care for each other despite the disdain they felt towards the other. I like the story because it is a bit unconventional. They do not act in appropriate manner all the time, something that Ms. Pearson explored in this book.
I just read a review where the reader said she loved this author’s style of writing. I have to agree, one hundred percent! I absolutely love Rose Pearson’s writing style as well. Her vivid descriptions and attention to detail really make the books come alive for me. This particular story is wonderfully written, full of sweet romance but also full of page-turning adventure. I just couldn’t put the book down. The characters are wonderful and engaging, and very well described. The book is a pleasure to read from cover to cover, and the ending is heartwarming and sweet.
When Stephen arranges to marry Augusta without knowing her, she takes offense and their first meeting is rather rocky, to the point he is wondering what he got himself into. Stephen unexpectedly loses his brother and his life changes dramatically, putting the decision to marry in the background. After his mourning period, Stephen returns to society and in a case of tit for tat, both Augusta and Stephen injure each other’s feelings. As life unfolds with an unknown enemy, the two are thrown together and learn that they each have another side to them. I enjoyed the story
Lady Augusta is very excited about the little season. She is getting close to choosing who she would like to marry. She is deeply disappointed and angry when she finds out her father has signed a betrothal agreement with Lord Pendleton and she was to meet him at the ball. She is curt and rude to him since she wanted to choose for herself. Lord Pendleton received word of his brother’s death so he went to the estate. He returns as a Marquis and Lady Augusta is now ready to give him a chance. However, a lot of the nobles want to introduce their daughters to him. Lady Augusta overheard a plot against him but he will not listen when she tries to tell him. Can these two work out their differences? This is another wonderful story from Rose Pearson that I highly recommend.

Start of Another Great Regency Series!
I just finished reading A Broken Betrothal (Convenient Arrangements Book 1) by Rose Pearson. This is a lovely tale of an arranged marriage where both parties are less than happy with the match and wish to break it off. In the process, their relationship changes and the interactions are very entertaining. There is also some treachery and mystery about. This is a quick , clean read with likable characters. I look forward to more books in this new series. Another winner for Ms Pearson!

I always enjoy Ms Pearson’s stories. They are well written, with strong characters and interesting plots. This one was no exception. She pulls you into the story until you forget you are reading fiction and not living in the story.

Some great characters.
Lady Augusta has been told that her father has selected the man she is to marry. This is not what she had hoped for and she is angry about it. Stephen has unexpectedly become the Marquess due to his brother’s death. Stephen had arranged his marriage with Augusta then with the death Stephen decides he does not need to marry Augusta. The fact other ladies are now looking at him he does not have to settle with her. I did not like Stephen very much and it took him way too long to realize his actions suck. I did like the story and how it ended. The author has written some great villains. This is a good start to a new series. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Stephen arranged a betrothal with Lady Mary through her father without meeting her nor consulting her on her wishes first. Is is any wonder she would be upset? Because she was openly unhappy about it he is rude and acts like he hasn’t met her when he returns to London after dealing with his deceased brother’s estate six months later. As a result she treats him badly in return to get back at him for this. Because of the way they acted I didn’t like either character at first. It isn’t until someone is trying to ruin him socially that he turns to her for help. I had a feeling early on who was behind it, but not completely why.
What an intense emotional tennis match this story was. What started out as a friendly game on one side, the other side was harsh and cold. Then both sides tried to best each other. But when an out of bounds was called someone else was trying to control the courtship game and bring shame and humiliation upon the players. More technical errors followed and the two players reconciled to find out who was causing the problems. The plan was elaborately designed for maximum damage. The result was unpredictable and took me by surprise. A very good read. I highly recommend it.
Lord Stephen being the second son knows he should make a match and so he does with Lady Augusta’s father. When they meet she is not friendly but the dead was done. Before he can sign the marriage contract he finds out his brother has died and he is now the Marquess. When next they meet he acts like he does not know her thinking he will have his choice of any woman he wants. What will the future hold for Augusta and Stephen?

Book one in the Convenient Arrangements series a well written Regency, mystery, romance story that kept me turning pages. This is Lord Stephen Leicestershire, Lady Augusta and their friends Lord Dryden, and Lady Mary’s story as they try to find out who is trying to ruin Stephen’s reputation. What a Story! I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
When Lady Augusta discovers that her father has entered into an engagement contract without her knowledge, she is determined that she is going to do something about it. Her betrothed, Lord Pendleton, soon becomes the Marquess of Leicestershire when his rake of a brother is killed in a duel.
Leicestershire finds suddenly finds himself hounded by ladies and being sought after by the ton due to his new title. But, someone is determined to bring him down by smearing his reputation socially.
At first, I didn’t like the main characters. They both did horrible things to each other in an effort to get out of their arrangement. However, when the smear campaign continues, she finds herself working to keep Leicestershire’s reputation intact.
This book is a clean Regency romance, full of all that you would expect in this genre. The author always writes a good story, full of emotion and love.
a good read with a different plot line.
This was very interesting in the beginning then slowed a bit. About the middle of the book I began to enjoy it again.
Loved the main characters as well as the supportive characters. They had a sense of humor that was woven throughout the book which I enjoyed immensely.
I couldn’t wait for the mystery to be solved terrific love story.
