The second installment of this series was even better than the first. Jake meets up with Cornelia and her brother, Raymond, aboard a steamship. Jake and Raymond decide to become partners and travel by wagon train to Breckenridge, Colorado.
The storyline and characters are well thought out. There are lots of twists to make you think and the underlying tones of faith and some of their struggles make for an inspirational story. I’m hoping there will be a third in the series.
The author paints an exciting adventure fraught with struggles, danger, and time for relationships to be tested. I loved the fire and courage Cornelia showed and the transformation of Jake was inspiring.
My thoughts about this book:
• I enjoyed following Jake, Cornelia, and Raymond in their journey west to Breckenridge, Colorado Territory.
• This book dwelled on the relationships between the characters on the trail. Some concepts presented were: self worth, women being suppressed, women seeking the chance to grow, how some men treated women as chattel, and physical abuse. This book also presented to the reader how hard it is to give or accept trust.
• I liked how faith and prayer was woven-in in the daily lives of these characters. A lot of pioneers were faithful Christians and sought God. It helped them survive the hardships of their trek.
• Not many everyday details were given about the hardships of life and the constant mental fight not to give up by the wagon train pioneer. The dust, heat, cold, extreme fatigue, hunger, arguments, illnesses, lack of water, and death. The fight for survival was missing. None of these common trials and mental battles went on with these characters.
I was given an advance copy of this book by the author. My review was voluntary and my opinions were my own. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy historical western Christian romances. I will be reading more books by this author.
A journey on the wagon train is filled with danger, fear, unexpected feelings and the possibility of found love. The descriptions in the story take the reader into the world of hard travels and strong emotions. I enjoyed this story. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.
Good story with lots of adventure and excitement.
The characters were well written with dimension. We see why they make the choices they do. The main couple earn their HEA.
This is definitely a Christian story with lots of praying, but no proselytizing.
Some of my favorite stories involve the pioneers that make their way across country to find a new life. The detail this author used shows the research she did in order to make the story so authentic. To think of people coming across the ocean and all the different nationalities is amazing.. the courage it took and hard work.
Cornelia and her brother Raymond travelled from Prussia to hopefully find their fortune in gold. They meet up with Jake, who has a lot of horrors from his past to deal with but as these three form a friendship and then a growing love between Cornelia and Jake, hopefully he can be healed.
Such a great inspirational story filled with danger, suspense, trying to survive and finding out how strong one can be. I read this through Booksprout.
An enjoyable sweet historical romance. Wonderful characters and an immersive setting of a wagon train along the Oregon Trail in 1867. The author clearly did her homework as the setting and the challenges faced by the characters leapt from the page keeping me reading late into the night. This is the second novel in the Frontier Legacy Bride series and is just as enjoyable as the first, A Bride’s Dilemma in Friendship, Tennessee.
What a wonderful story! The author makes the story come to life with her words, you feel like you are there. I loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone who likes christian historical fiction.
A Bride’s Journey to the Colorado Territory, by Diana Lesire Brandmeyer, is the second book in the Frontier Legacy Brides series. From beginning to end, this book offers an exciting story of perseverance, faith, and new beginnings. With engaging characters, plenty of adventure, and sweet moments of clean romance, this young adult, historical fiction novel is just right for an afternoon of cozy reading.
Ms. Brandmeyer’s writing style is inviting and easy to read. The plot is quickly paced, and the descriptive story-telling brings the historic settings to life. As the characters travel west across the American frontier their experiences are interesting and relatable. Their struggles, insecurities, fears, and beliefs are authentic and moving. Even though the characters endure real trials that test their assumptions and their faith, the light of God’s mercy shines through with the restorative power of grace and second chances. With warmth and heart, this novel also places a significant emphasis on family and friends and the ways in which they can grow to support, encourage, and protect one another.
A Bride’s Journey to the Colorado Territory is a memorable story full of hope, courage, and determination. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading clean, historical, western romances.
*I was given a copy of this novel by the author. A review was not required. The review I have written is voluntary and contains opinions that are entirely my own.
A Bride’s Journey to the Colorado Territory is the story of a German immigrant, Cornelia, and her protective brother, Raymond. Join them as they team up with Jake Miles, a former Union prisoner of war, who is fighting his past. Life on the wagon train is rougher than they expected but they learn to adjust. You will admire Jake as he attempts to follow Raymond’s admonition to treat Cornelia as a sister! I enjoyed reading of life on the wagon train and look forward to the next book in this series. I received an advance e-book from Diana Brandmeyer. I recommend this book to others who enjoy historical fiction. This is my honest opinion.
A Bride’s Journey to the Colorado Territory by Diana Lesire Brandmeyer is the second book in the Frontier Legacy Bride’s series. I confess I haven’t read the first book, but after reading Cornelia, Raymond and Jake’s story, I want to!
The post-Civil War era is my favorite in historical fiction, and I enjoy reading stories about those people who were brave enough to travel through hardship across the country in search of a new beginning. The journey of a pioneer is inspiring but also full of hardship, and I thought the author captured this perfectly. The story is wonderfully detailed about everyday life while traveling and surviving across the plains–everything from what necessities were carefully packed in the wagon to what meals they would have eaten when they had no fire. It made the story feel even more authentic to have those details.
I love how the pioneer life allows people to have a second chance. For Cornelia and Raymond from Prussia, they were looking for a new home away from the unrest of their home country. For Jake, he was running from his past in Tennessee. Either way, the fresh trail gave them opportunities, and I loved to listen to them as they discussed their dreams along the way.
Cornelia is a strong, young woman, growing into the independence she desires now that she’s an American forging her path into the Frontier. I loved her big heart for others (fellow travelers and natives alike), her courage, and her ability to see other’s needs. She is a bit headstrong and argumentative at times, but it is all part of her finding her balance and her place in the freedom of her journey.
Jake is a man haunted by his past, but he is a good man at heart. It was comical when he struck a deal with Raymond to think of Cornelia as his sister. It didn’t take long for that promise to grate against the budding feelings he has for Cornelia. His self-restraint is admirable!
Overall, I enjoyed this story from beginning to end. It was an historic adventure full of perils on the trail and in the heart. Any fan of Christian historical fiction would enjoy this story, especially if you like Western-type fiction.
I was given a copy of this book by the author with no expectations of a positive review. All opinions are my own.
A Bride’s Journey to the Colorado Territory by Diana Lesire Brandmeyer is the second book in the Frontier Legacy Brides series and definitely worth reading if you love inspirational historical romances.
Cornelia Taggart left her home and parents traveling across the ocean and now open country to the Colorado territory hoping to start a new life. She was open to getting married after they settled down and made a home for themselves, but she never expected to fall in love on the long trip to the very man that her brother kept warning her to stay away from.
Jake Miles wanted to start his life over, away from his family, home and memories from the past. Meeting Cornelia and Raymond Taggart was perfect luck. They could pull their resources and make the long and hard journey across country. Falling in love was never the plan, but God had other plans for them both.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series in the future.
I received an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
The second book in the Frontier Legacy Brides series a well written Frontier story that kept me turning pages. I want to read the first book in this series. This is Cornelia and Jake’s story of suspense, drama, danger, kidnapping by an Indian, and romance. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I was thoroughly enchanted by A Bride’s Journey to the Colorado Territory, the second book in Frontier Legacy Brides. Diana Brandmeyer writes a beautiful and captivating story of unexpected love. It is also a story of the importance of being able to trust others–sometimes even strangers–when help is needed. The writing style is graceful and flows smoothly as the author tells Cornelia and the wagon train travelers’ story. The author has beautifully crafted her characters– Cornelia, strong and full of spunk and determination; Raymond, the overprotective brother on his way to find gold; and Jake, a man with a past that continually bedevils him. whose history with females keeps him aloof. Watching the relationship between Jake and Cornelia morph and change throughout the story kept my interest. I was often wondering where things were going to end up as the characters encountered so many struggles, harrowing struggles–abusive relationships, the hardships of wagon train travel, encounters with Native Indians, and so much more. Strong characters that are so likable, realistic situations, wonderfully descriptive scenes all work together for a delightful story and threaded throughout the book is a faith in God–the God who alone can bring forgiveness and second chances. I enjoyed this historical romance and look forward to reading more of Ms. Brandmeyer’s books.
I was given a complimentary copy of the book and was not required to write a review. The opinion are my own.
This is a very good western historical romance. I enjoyed the characters and really want to know what happened to all the people that were on the wagon train. What happens to all these families. I loved the story. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
An excellent historical.
This was an outstanding historical it was beautifully written with first-rate characters and plot. Both of the main characters have had a difficult past it was a captivating view on the feeling that they had. I will be honest I felt like I was right there with them as they traveled all the danger, fear and hope were right there jumping off the pages. This was an excellent book that you should read if you enjoy western historical it made my day when I read it! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I love a wagon train story. Cornelia and Raymond came over on a ship from Prussia, planning on going to gold country with a wagon train. They planned on making enough money to send for their parents. They met Jake and formed a partnership. At least Raymond did. He tended to tell Cornelia what to do, which was making her more angry all the time. The trip would take a long time, and there would be people to meet and hopefully for her to form friendships with. Nora is the same age as Cornelia, and is also unmarried. But her father treated her much differently, complaining she was baggage to be rid of. An interesting story of young people from different backgrounds, yet the same, learning how to live and be themselves, while on a journey that is always dangerous and not everyone survives. Good Christian lessons. Looking forward to the next book!
I received a copy of this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

“A Bride’s Journey to the Colorado Territory” is a excellent book. It is filled with adventure , suspense and most important a love story.
This is the 2nd book in the “Frontier Legacy” series. It can be a read alone book.
This is the first book by this author I’ve read. I love the authors ability to make you seem part of the book, the characters seem real and give you insight about what it was like to travel West during the gold rush.
Synopsis – She’s running from grief. He’s running from war memories. Can they find love in this dangerous journey West.
Cornelia’s parents sent her to America hoping to heal her heart. Accompanied by her protective brother Raymond. They’ll travel by covered wagon to Colorado Territory to search for gold. Jake, once a prisoner of the union army leaves Tennessee in disgrace. He wants nothing more than to find enough gold to start life over. The last he want was to fall in love.
My thoughts – While reading this book the first thing to stand out is the hardship people had to endure. To me there was always concern about the weather, food control and Indians. The other thing I noticed was the fact women had no voice. They were not taking serious when they made a since and did the majority of the work.
Rating – I will greatly give this book a 5 out of 5
Recommendation – I will gladly recommend this book to family and friends through Facebook, bookbud, my blog, Amazon and Goodreads.
Disclaimer – I received this complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher through bookfunnel for a honest review. All thoughts and opinions are mine and mine alone
Coming to Americal to heal her broken heart, Cornelia meets Jake who is not in the market for a wife. Interesting complex characters and a wonderful descriptive story.
This is the second book of the series Frontier Legacy Brides. Go along with Jake, Coenelia, Raymond and Nora on a wagon train to Breckenridge,Colorado territory. The book was very descriptive of the journey and the people on the wagon train. Can love happen on a wagon train? Can trust be found in times of need with people you don’t know. If you haven’t read the first I suggest you it also.
Loved Jake and Cornelia’s story!!! Cornelia and Raymond left their home and parents to find a new life for them all in Colorado. On the way, they meet Jake, and Raymond decides to partner with Jake so that they can pool resources to get to the mining camps. The closer they get, the more things change. Cornelia’s learning that no matter how much you want things to change, you can’t change another person or make them do what you want them to do. Jake’s learning that your past doesn’t define you, and you can change if you rely on God to help you. Raymond decides he doesn’t care to go to the mining camps, and will wait for God to bring him the wife he needs.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
