I loved learning a bit about the Dutch communities in America. My husband’s family are all Dutch dairy farmers. I also enjoyed that this story had an old fashioned matchmaker. She’s not just a busybody, this women is good at her job, yet deceitful and evil! I loved that I had to look up several words in English besides the fact that there were many Dutch phrases used. It’s always a good thing that you can learn more vocabulary and history, when reading fiction! I don’t think it happens nearly enough! I thought this book really stood out! From the cover to the storyline, to learning new things, I thoroughly loved this sweet romance! The surprise ending was just icing on the cake!
Sterling met a girl ten years ago and fell so deeply in love but he father takes him away from her. He still remembers her and calls her his Angel because her voice inspired him. Now his father is threateningto marry a woman he does not love just to become the next leader of the church. But he does not wish to be a minister and for the first time defies his father, goes to a matchmaker and marries someone he has not seen by proxy. What happens next is what true romances are all about.
I loved the story. It has interesting characters. I was drawn to the character of Sterling as he had to learn how to go from under his father’s thumb to a man in his own right. The storyline is filled with surprises, emotional drama and obstacles (both internal and external) that the characters must overcome before true happiness could ever be achieved. It is a heartwarming tale that leaves you with a good feeling. So if you like historical romances and are looking for a quick easy read, I suggest you give this one a go.

Book seven in The Proxy Brides series, this story drew me in and did not let go until I had finished reading it. I want to read more in this series. Moira Wellington and Sterling Montgomery will have a lot to go through before they get their happy ending. What a Father Sterling had, wanting Sterling to marry someone else, but not for the reason he gives his son! The reason was not what I expected. I enjoyed reading this book. Sterling is haunted by the sweet melodic voice of his childhood crush, but his father has forbidden him from seeing her again. Ten years later and he is still under his father’s thumb . In an act of independence, he asks the matchmaker to find a bride that he can marry by proxy. Moira’s mother has a secret. If she hopes to keep her secret, she will give her daughter to marry this man that they have never even seen.
I enjoyed the story of Sterling and Moira’s unique path to love.

1870 Holland, Michigan It had been ten years since he had first seen his “angel of music” and the fact his father had made him leave her. Now Sterling’s father, a prominent minister, wants him help him climb the ladder in the church by marrying the daughter of an elder. But she kept intruding in his mind. The problem was he had never stood up to his father, he always just went along. Now he was going to take a stand and marry a bride by proxy.
Moira had never forgotten her prince she had met when she was singing in the woods all those years ago. But her mother is being blackmailed by the “matchmaker” to make Moira marry a client of hers by proxy or she will tell secrets best left silent, she agrees to the scheme.
Fate brings them back together as Sterling finds “his angel” Moira is his proxy bride. Could faith and God be uniting them after all?
A wonderful story that will warm your heart if only these two can stay together or be thwarted by a terrible parent!

This is a sweet inspirational story, set in the 1870’s. A story of a young man who has never stood for himself but let his father run his life.
The characters all have strong religious beliefs and strong walks with God. Their is quoting of Scripture and a reverence of it in their lives.
There are some unexpected twists and turns. The story is easy to read and the flow of words is a big old world and very romantic at times, it made me long for more poetic speaking and the courting from the past. It seems with our world today that true romance and getting to know your love is forgotten in sex, and living. Everyone misses out without this deeper sensitive connection.
