Mary Robinson is in deep trouble. At the end of her rope and with no place to go, she begs Doc Reeves for help, and he comes up with an outrageous plan—find a fella and get married by proxy. Dwight, the brother of her best friend, steps in to fill the bill. Everything will be fine as long as Dwight keeps up his end of the bargain and stays away. No one will know the truth. However, her proxy … proxy groom, Dwight Christiansen, soon finds himself in some hot water of his own back home in Louisville. A rich young girl has designs on him and won’t take NO for an answer. Resorting to making up lies about him, she winds up costing him his job. Things escalate to an overwhelming degree and Dwight feels he has no other recourse than to go back on his word and join his wife in Brownville, for a while at least. Surely, she’ll be glad to see him…right?
Wrong.
Having her absentee proxy husband in town causes all kinds of trouble for Mary.
She wishes she could send him back where he came from…if only he wasn’t so darn handsome, funny, sweet, kind, and everything a girl could want in a beau.
The problem is—once their agreement is over, he’ll be gone. She simply can’t let down her guard and fall in love with him!
At the end of just his first day there, Mary’s heart is already standing at love’s door.
Oh, heaven help me! What have I gotten myself into?
This is a clean, inspirational romance. The story contains themes of real life, but is suitable for all ages, as it contains no illicit sex or profanity.

If you’re looking for a heartwarming, sweet romance, this book is it! I really enjoyed this one. Really well-written, wonderful characters, and a great small-town setting. This one features characters in Linda Ellen’s earlier Proxy Brides books, but it can also be read as a standalone.
I would have to say my heading would be “Welcome Back”. Linda Ellen has done it again. She definitely has a God given talent. A Bride for Dwight brings you back to Brownsville Nebraska to reconnect with Finn, Sam and Tobias and their families. You feel like you are part of the Brownsville family, one of the neighbors so to speak. I found myself thinking just say something, does he, does she. From the first word Linda grabs your hand and it’s like let’s go and you do. There are a few unexpected surprises popping up that will warm your heart, some will break your heart. Have to tell you I burned the midnight oil a few times, one more page, one more chapter. Like the Lays potatoe chip commercial ” you can’t eat just one” you will not read them just once. Way to go Linda, you did it again. Keep em coming.#1 fan.
A single young lady finding herself expecting in 1893 regardless of the circumstances was a lot different than it would be now. The best she could hope for was to be sent away and have the baby and give it away. This really wasn’t a possibility for Mary. Unknown to her, this catastrophe would end up being a blessing and Linda Ellen writes a wonderful story to get that conclusion. This event turns out to be a blessing for many. I enjoyed getting to meet the characters and seeing this story unfold. I recommend this feel good tale.
Dwight- after proxy marriage studied to be a lawyer
Mary- was attacked and later pregnant.
I enjoyed reading this engaging story that is well written with charismatic characters and intriguing plot/storyline. Their story has a wonderfully sweet HEA.
The author has penned a beautiful story of overcoming. This is Mary and Dwight’s story and the character development is excellent. Mary has suffered much adversity and loss in her life and now finds herself pregnant as a result of an attack by a criminal who had hoodwinked her. In steps Dwight and volunteers to be her proxy husband. The story is action packed and filled with good friends, town gossips, locating Mary’s lost brother, some evil guys and romance. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it. This is a real page turner; one you will not want to miss.
Absolutely loved this book! I loved how every turn of the page had me pleasantly surprised. Definitely not a cookie cutter story! I loved how original Mary was as a character. Her flaws were real and deeply written. I could relate to how she felt. And on that same parallel was Dwight’s perseverance to make his dreams come true with hard work and his growing love for Mary. And as a long time reader of Linda Ellen, when you start her series from the beginning, you really get to know her characters and the world they inhabit like they were your own friends and family. And getting to revisit with those characters is just the greatest treat. It’s not just the romance, it’s the mystery that surrounds Mary and who could be lurking around our lovely Brownville! I really feel like this book has a little something for everybody. Mystery, romance, history, and those moments when you know you’re going to need a tissue box!
This was an interesting book with a compelling idea that I enjoyed … But, the facts that led to the need of the proxy marriage bothered me since it was never out right said to be what it was.
If you enjoy lighthearted stories that may have a slightly unrealistic take on things this will be something you love. For myself, I liked it but didn’t love it so much.
