Mathematics teacher Daisy Murphy agrees to participate in a new matchmaking service organized by her pastor and the matron of the orphanage where she has spent the last fifteen years. Romantic, yet practical, she’s systematically eliminated all candidates but one and anticipates getting to know him better through months of correspondence.
Time is not on the side of David Taylor. He has a nephew … nephew and niece to think about, and his attorney has warned him he will lose custody of both to their rich grandfather if he doesn’t have a wife. A teacher longing for security, a businessman about to lose the only family he has; and a proxy marriage that can give them both exactly what they need.

I’m reviewing the audio book. Thoroughly enjoyed the story and will definitely listen to it again. The narrator did a good job.
Sweet, romantic, and funny
Geometry and chicks – not a good combination. Read to find out how they are related.
“I would not wish any companion in the world but you.”
Lucky David!
After growing up in an orphanage where she later worked, Daisy has to decide who she is interested in marrying and chooses David. He need a wife quickly to ensure that he keeps custody of his young nephew and niece and so they wed by proxy.
She arrives and they begin to make a life together and soon find that they have fallen in love. A lot happens before they realise this and that is what made this story so interesting.
These are all lovely characters brought to life by J. Scott Bennett using his unique voices. He even sings in this audio and that too was a delight.
I listened to the audio version and my voluntary and unbiased review is recorded above.
I LOVED this book!!! It touched me in so many ways!! I went the gamut of emotions, and can’t wait to read the next one!!
The author has penned a sweet and heart warming story with great character development. Daisy wants to marry for love but David, ever the practical one, needs to marry in order to retain custody of his niece and nephew. After a threatened custody suit by the children’s grandfather, the marriage must take place immediately and a proxy marriage is arranged…thus no time for romance. You will recognize some of the characters in this story from early books by the author plus meet some new friends. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. I know you will enjoy it.
This is a well written book that holds your attention. It’s a heartwarming story that will keep you turning the pages. Daisy and David marry for the security but will it turn into a marriage of love? This book was a joy to read.
The wedding scenes were all wonderful! The narration was delightful as well! Definitely a wonderful book!
A Bride for David
The Proxy Brides, Book 37
By: Kimberly Grist
Narrated by: J. Scott Bennett
What happens when you want to retain custody of your niece and nephew in the 1800’s? You get married! David is threatened to lose custody and in order to keep them agrees to a proxy marriage. Lucky for him he has been corresponding with Daisy, a school teacher who is willing to take the sacrifice. She always wanted to marry for love though. Will these two find out they are destined to be together? I listen to a lot of Mail Order Bride books, and this one is a little different. The characters are not your typical rancher and woman trying to get away from her family. David is businessman and Daisy a school teacher which gives the story a little different depth. Add in the grandfather who is causing the turmoil and we can give him the credit for helping Daisy and David find their perfect match!
J Scott Bennett gives a wonderfully warm performance of the story. He is fantastic changing voices, from children to adult to mature adult. He even provides some beautiful singing! It’s a beautiful listen!
