Emma Butler is devastated to find her life spiraling out of her control. She is married by proxy at the moment war begins in her own home of Lexington, Massachusetts. The ‘shot heard round the world’ is volleyed directly in front of her, leaving her an orphan. To make matters even more tragic, her new husband never arrives to claim her. The ideas of life, liberty, and happiness seem so far away … away as she struggles to get by in a world she no longer recognizes. Just when things begin to settle down, she comes face to face with her missing groom, Daniel Knox.
Daniel Knox has had his life put forcibly on hold when he is pressed into service for the King’s Navy. Betrayed, alone, and with nowhere to go – he heads for the one spark of hope that he remembers from years ago, praying for a second chance at happiness with Emma, his Proxy Bride.

Ginny Sterling set this book in an unusual time frame from most proxy bride stories, the American Revolutionary War period. Emma finds herself forced to marry by proxy to provide for her family, but then the groom never shows up. I like that Emma just deals with it. After a few years she finds all is not as it seems in her husband’s family. It would be hard to never know who you can trust in those turbulent times. This was an enjoyable book.
Emma married Daniel by proxy and became a orphan at the same day. She waited for her husband but he didn’t show up. Daniel couldn’t make it to his own marriage because he was sick. His uncle wants him dead so he could take over the business. After his escape he goes to visit his wife Emma. But can she trust him with her life and maybe her heart?
Really enjoyed this entertaining story and can’t wait to read Daniel’s brother’s story.
Emma and Daniel are brought together by Proxy Marriage.
Will their marriage stand the tests set before them? Do they have a chance or will the war come between them and destroy their future?
This story is a wonderful read. The characters, the storyline and the historical attributes of this book are top notch. They bring a bit of history into our lives about our country in its early years. You will enjoy this book as much as I did.
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story! I love stories that are set in the time period of the Revolutionary War. I hadn’t heard of marriages arranged by proxy during this time but this is how Emma ends up marrying Daniel. Daniel is very sick with a disease at the time and can’t make it to the wedding. Emma has never met Daniel but agrees to marry him because their marriage was arranged for business purposes earlier and her father & brother are now dead so she doesn’t have anyone to take care of her and nowhere to go. However, years go by and Daniel never shows up but Emma is busy with what is going on with the war, until one day Daniel show up! He was betrayed by his uncle and pressed into service of the King’s navy. Together they must get Daniel’s family business away from the uncle. I really enjoyed Daniel’s brother too. This was a terrific story and I highly recommend it!
This is such a great book! I loved the characters and how much family meant to them. I was pulled in from the first page, taken back in time to the colonies. The romance and the fight to leave a legacy was so strong I felt myself swept away into a time where nothing was easy. Ginny Sterling has a way with words that engage the reader into every crevice of the story, beautiful!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Sweet Historical Romance
I was completely unprepared for this wonderful story. So far this series has been Historical, but set in the American Old West. This amazing story takes place during the American Revolution. I loved Daniel’s teasing side and the ability of these two brothers to welcome Emma into their family as easily as they do. A truly well written and heartfelt story!
