I thought this was a sweet story. Greta has had a secret crush on Adam for years… however, she ends up marrying his brother Seth who has loved her for years. Seth has a medical issue that causes him to postpone his wedding night… for just one night. However, consummating the marriage was too much on him and he passes. Greta is a newly wed and a widow in a days time. Adam feels the needs to take care of his brother’s wife… but Greta doesn’t want him out of loyalty to his brother.
The story goes on and is both interesting and funny… even a little scary. I won’t give anything away, you just need to read this book.
J. Scott Bennett does a great job with the narrative. I enjoy the Goss/Bennett team.
I received this audiobook as a gift from the author and I am voluntarily leaving this review.
A Bride for Adam (Proxy Brides #33 was another great read by Barbara Goss. Greta had just married Seth when he suddenly died. She than finds out that she’s pregnant and his parents pressure her to marry their other son to keep the baby in the family. Adam has been at the sea when he marries Greta by Proxy. I really enjoyed reading Greta and Seth’s story and can’t wait to read more by Barbara Goss.
A wonderful story of a young woman, Greta, marrying into a family her mother works for as a maid. She had always had a crush on Adam, one of their sons, but he was never there, off to sea with their shipping business. His brother Seth fell in love with Greta, and she agrees to marry him. Unfortunately on their wedding night, he has a breathing attack and passes away.
She is truly heartbroken, but then finds she is with child and the parents send for Adam and he agrees for Greta to become his proxy bride.
The only problem is he does not come home right away. It is actually several years and Greta is determined to take her child and start a life of her own and hopefully marry. But then Adam does come home…
A journey to find happiness with the enthralling story by Barbara Goss, who always grabs me from the beginning, and with the awesome voice of J Scott Bennett, it does not get much better.. I could listen to him narrate for hours and with Barbara’s writing, life is good.
A Bride for Adam
The Proxy Brides, Book 33
By: Barbara Goss
Narrated by: J. Scott Bennett
When Greta marries, she thinks it will be forever. When her husband Seth dies soon after their wedding, she finds herself alone and pregnant, and being proxy married to Seth’s brother Adam. Adam loves the sea, and does this deed to keep the baby in the family for his parents. This marriage of convenience goes on for several years, and Greta wants to start her life! Right as she files an annulment, Adam comes home. Should they continue to separate or will they find love? I really enjoyed this story. First, Greta is an interesting woman. The story of how her relationship with Seth began and her attraction to Adam is one we can all understand. I loved how she evolved and became her own woman, strong with her feelings and not afraid to voice her opinion. Adam is easy to like. His personality it warm, and his perseverance admirable. This series is entertaining, warms my heart and cleanses my tired mind. Keep them coming Barbara Goss! I am loving them!
J Scott Bennett is the voice of proxy brides for me. He has a soothing tone and really understands the time period. He makes the listens so enjoyable that I can see the story as it is playing out. Another wonderful performance!

Barbara Goss packed this story with love, parental love, brotherly love and romantic love. Oh, and don’t forget love of the sea. I enjoyed watching Adam and Greta learn to trust and love each other, all the while dealing with all the other loves. One of the best in the series.
A Bride for Adam, is so very unique. I loved how unexpected the storyline was. You never knew what was going to happen next. This is just one of many excellent books by Barb Goss.
Seth and Greta marry in a beautiful ceremony, but their wedding night is postponed by a night due to his not feeling well. The next night they consummate the marriage, but he becomes worse in health and passes away. Greta is beside herself. She has always been attracted to Seth’s brother Adam. To her surprise, she finds that the one night with Seth has left her carrying his child. Once his parents become aware of this event, they set things in motion for a Proxy Marriage between Greta and Adam. Thus the tale begins.
Can two people who really don’t know each other come to terms with a marriage that was seemingly contrived to keep the beautiful child of a dead son in the family? Will Adam give up a life he loves at sea to become a husband to Greta and a father to his brother’s child? Can Greta convince Seth she loves him and vice versa?
This Author keeps you on the edge of your seat through the book… giving you a little jump start with a man that is vicious and will do anything to keep the beautiful Greta away from Adam and make her His. I highly recommend this book. I was given an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.
Barbara Goss has penned a wonderful and engrossing story that is heart warming and full of action that shows dreams do sometimes really come true. This is Adam and Greta’s story and the character development is excellent. Greta marries Seth, Adams’s brother, all the while wishing it was Adam who she has always loved from afar. Two days after the wedding Seth dies leaving Greta a widow. After his brother’s death, Adam steps up and marries Greta via proxy out of loyalty and duty, which was the custom of his family as well as typical of the day and time. Then the adventure and action starts with pirates, kidnapping, murder, voyages at sea and lots of lovable and funny characters albeit conniving at times, as well as some not so nice ones. The couple have much to overcome to reach a HEA. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it, as I know you will enjoy it too. WARNING: It is a real page turner so plan on getting comfy and not being able to put it down until you finish it..
I really enjoyed this story so much and think that perhaps this is the very best one in the series so far.
It is written in a way that one feels the hopelessness of a new bride when she loses her husband and then her happiness as her life takes a turn for the better.
This is a very well written book by Barbara Goss and J. Scott Bennett has lent his magical voice to it to make it a delight to listen to. Entertainment by the best!
I listened to the audiobook version and my voluntary review above is unbiased.
