The year is 1772, and on the eve of the American Revolution, the long fuse of rebellion has already been lit. Men lie dead in the streets of Boston, and in the backwoods of North Carolina, isolated cabins burn in the forest.
With chaos brewing, the governor calls upon Jamie Fraser to unite the backcountry and safeguard the colony for King and Crown. But from his wife Jamie knows that three years hence the shot heard round the world will be fired, and the result will be independence—with those loyal to the King either dead or in exile. And there is also the matter of a tiny clipping from The Wilmington Gazette, dated 1776, which reports Jamie’s death, along with his kin. For once, he hopes, his time-traveling family may be wrong about the future.

Wow! Waiting for book 9!!!
I’ve enjoyed all the books in the series (Outlander) and this was one of them.
This is the sixth book in the Outlander series. I’ve always viewed the third, Voyager, as my favorite, but ABOSAA has surpassed it. At 980 pages, it is formidable, but it was difficult to put down and I certainly didn’t want it to end.
Have enjoyed the series so far. Have the next one to read but have a hard time putting them down so catching up on the to do list first.
This series will stick with you.
Brilliant!
I can never put any of Diana’s books down, and I reread them in sequence every 1-2 years.
This entry in the Outlander series has some darker moments, to say the least. It also has one of my favorite passages – Bree’s discovery that she has a half brother. Family has been the one common thread among the books of this series, and this relationship is no different.
Exciting installment in the series.
This also is a part of a series. Cannot say anything but positive things about the whole series or any more of Diana Gabaldon’s writings.
I love all her books!
Love, love, love.
I’ve read all of these books so many times. Plan on reading them many more! Get ready to lose a lot of sleep. Once you start reading this series you can’t put them down
Yes… I’m hooked on the Outlander series, like millions of others. Gabaldon puts all the pieces together perfectly, and time travel, too!
Love every one of her books in this series, they are all very long but you cant stop reading them
This is the 6th book in the Outlander series and it still follows the lives of our main characters in the backwoods of North Carolina in the midst of the American Revolution. I found this installment more entertaining than the previous book as it has a much faster pace with a lot going on. There are a lot of moments that will illicit surprise and contentment for readers because a lot of questions get answered and of course new ones pop up in their place leaving an air of mystery. The last few chapters will have you scrambling to read the next one to find out what happens to our beloved characters.
