Mili Rathod hasn’t seen her husband in twenty years — not since she was promised to him at the age of four. Yet marriage has allowed Mili a freedom rarely given to girls in her village. Her grandmother has even allowed her to leave India and study in America for eight months, all to make her the perfect modern wife. Which is exactly what Mili longs to be — if her husband would just come and claim … claim her.
Bollywood’s favorite director, Samir Rathod, has come to Michigan to secure a divorce for his older brother. Persuading a naïve village girl to sign the papers should be easy for someone with Samir’s tabloid-famous charm. But Mili is neither a fool nor a gold-digger. Open-hearted yet complex, she’s trying to reconcile her independence with cherished traditions. And before he can stop himself, Samir is immersed in Mili’s life — cooking her dal and rotis, escorting her to her roommate’s elaborate Indian wedding, and wondering where his loyalties and happiness lie.
Heartfelt, witty, and thoroughly engaging, Sonali Dev’s debut is both a vivid exploration of modern India and a deeply honest story of love, in all its diversity.

A Bollywood Affair is a standalone, contemporary romance novel written by author Sonali Dev. This story is set in an Indian community in Michigan, USA. The plot that brought these characters together is interesting and inspired by a true story, but what I found most fascinating are the characters in this novel. Their worlds may be similar but the …
Loved this! Full of all the nosy, interfering family I love, brotherly love, and a fiercely independent heroine, it was a delight.
Delicious, delightful, funny, and touching. And Dev’s writing is insanely good!
I enjoyed this book. The characters had difficult situations to face but the story was told without them being self absorbed and full of pity but with a touch of humor.
(Mistakenly had 2 stars for this and therefore updating)
As a reviewer, I loved this book and as a writer I admired Dev’s ability to portray the old tradition of child marriage and the ever in trend racism and merge them convincingly in a new frame. In A Bollywood Affair, Mili and Samir meet under manufactured yet hilarious circumstances. Samir, a hot Bollywood director, is in Ypsilanti, Michigan to …
m I in love? I think so . Sonali Dev has snared me with her words and I never want this warm, fuzzy feeling to leave my soul! I don’t have a book hangover, I have a book high!
Learning about new cultures and peeking into different family dynamics is one of my favorite parts about reading. Through The Bollywood Affair, I feel like Sonali invited …
An entrancing story.
I didn’t know what to expect since I didn’t read the blurb. Although I had read another book by the author a few years ago. So I did know I liked the author’s voice.
What I liked were characters so real and lifelike I had to have more. An ever-intriguing story I needed to see how it unfolded. The main characters are both …
Coming from India, I’ve been Overdosed with Bombay Masala Film Industry and seen it all from classics to cheesy with boring, funny, hilarious and ridiculous in between, I can definitely say I’m a somewhat well versed reviewer of anything india related.
The story, for any non-indian would be Oh-So-sweet serendipitous love.
It somehow, fell way too …
Absolutely loved this story
Definitely a page turner and an easy summer read. Did I roll my eyes at the child marriage? Yes, a tiny bit. Loved the portrayal of all the family love, those lightened my heart. Malvika would fit right in the medieval fantasies I write.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and felt like the author enjoyed writing it. If you are craving for some …
One of a kind which I couldn’t forget about and kept reading it again and again.
A nice novel. Though the themes are recurring and familiar, the author manages to give it little twists and turns which make the story enjoyable for her readers
I thoroughly enjoyed this romp with a happy ending.
I recommend this most highly for anybody who reads contemporary romance! Sonali Dev’s tale is as contemporary as tomorrow morning yet with the resonance of cultural expectations that are out-of-date and illegal. How on earth can this have an HEA? Believe me, Sonali delivers a heartwarming, romantic, fascinating love story! And if you aren’t …
