When a retired detective encounters a stranger standing outside a restaurant when both of them are on vacation and the stranger finds out what he did before he retired, the detective jokingly tells the stranger that he will come and solve a murder for him if he goes home and finds a body on his front porch.
I really disliked this book.
This book was too much narrative talking and not enough action. It did not keep my attention as dialogue ran on and on and nothing really happened. The ending was too predictable as well. Not my cup of tea.
Mostly boring. The periods of actual investigation is fairly well written and interesting. The home life and musings are boring, boring, boring. The byplay with Lou is just stupid and interaction with neighbors and other characters is offensive and abusive, not comedic.
Fun read and predictable
I love the two retired detectives. They are hilarious.
This is a Christian cozy mystery. The main characters are two retired detectives who love to eat and take verbal jabs at each other. It employs hyperbole, and sometimes it is funny. The secondary detective gets clues from God to help them solve the crime. The main detective is into cheesecake and movies. Not fast moving, but there were surprises along the way.
A little silly but good
Good plot, good writing. Writer sometimes seems to be trying too hard to be funny all the time. Certain humor fits fine, but the constant run of humor in a murder mystery is a little too distracting for me when i am just trying to figure out whodunit. Second book I have read by this author, and it seems to be a standard. However, story line was good enough to keep me reading until the end.
This book was ok
How nice to read a mystery without a lot of sexual innuendos and without “blood-and-gore!” It’s great that the characters read their Biblical devotionals each morning!
I couldn’t get into this book and stopped reading
Another in the series. Not as focused on food for an improvement in the story..
I couldnt put it down so funny
Loved it
I love the way Steven Demaree writes! His characters feel like your own neighbors. The friendship that Cy and Lou have while figuring out the most puzzling mysteries is just great. I laughed out loud several times at the conversations these two characters have! I plan to read every book Demaree writes!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was not what I expected based on the title. If you start to read it, you won’t want to put it down. Great read!
Couldn’t put it down. The two main characters kept me entertained.
I’ve read other books by this author with the same main characters. The plot was a mystery to me until the very end.
Great sarcasm from story teller.
Another fun read with the endearing slightly overweight detectives!
