A body washed up on a beach
Why has nobody reported her missing?
Abandoned by his business partner and bored to tears with no work, former Detective Sergeant Norman Norman is visited by an old colleague from years ago. The former colleague is now heading a team of misfits and needs an experienced Sergeant to pass on his experience. Would Norman like to come back to work under the new Police … the new Police Rejoiner scheme?
With nothing to lose, Norman jumps at the chance, and within days he’s installed under new boss, DI Sarah Southall, and the fledgling team have their first murder to solve, when a woman’s body is washed up on a beach close to the small West Wales coastal town of Llangwelli.
At first it’s assumed the unknown woman was strangled, and her body dumped out at sea, but the post mortem reveals one or two surprises that contradict the assumption. It’s not long before Norman and Southall find they have a growing list of suspects and motives, and yet, everyone seems to have an alibi!
Can the newly formed team unravel a whole tangle of suspects and motives to reveal the murderer?
Or, is there a surprising twist in the tale?

One of the best books I have read recently. Interesting characters and a plot full f twists and turns–a really good story.
I really liked this book and had trouble putting it down. Loved the characters and the story.
Enjoyed the characters and setting. Good mystery with plot twists and plenty of suspects.
Forced humor but not a bad read. Unrealistic in many regards but kept your attention
I recommend it. Good read.
I really enjoyed this book. A great cast of characters set in Western Wales. I hadn’t read any of the Slater and Norman books so this was a great new author for me. I look forward to more books in the series.
I don’t know if it was good or bad. Didn’t read it after the first bit, too much bad language for me. I thought I would give it a short read to see if the vocabulary changed, it didn’t, so I quit reading.
I hope this is only the first of a series. Likeable characters forming a team and finding they are not as inept and useless as they have been branded.
Great police procedural without all the violence of many crime thrillers.
A very measured, calm, uplifting and even flowed police procedural based in Wales.
Lot of potential but unfulfilled. Characters were cardboard, I tried to finish, I really did, but just lost interest.
Love all Alter and Norman books. This Norman books are fresh and typical Norman.
Hard to get into.slow read
Pretty decent mystery. I especially appreciated that there wasn’t the typical and trite near-death experience for the protagonist at the climax of the book. Overall, though, it reads like a story written by a middle-aged man who felt unappreciated in his work.
A uniquely constructed murder mystery that was very compelling – kept my interest page after page.
